I really hope this is true, I could do without Burnett especially if Politte is part of the deal. From Today's SunTimes:Burnett deal appearing less likelyJason Stark on ESPN radio is saying the White Sox are looking like the top contender to land AJ Burnett. KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- As the White Sox prepare to fold up their trading post, the agent for Florida Marlins right-hander A.J. Burnett also is resigned to knowing that a deal is less likely by the minute.
Burnett's agent, Darek Braunecker, said Tuesday he was 85 percent sure last week that his client was on the move, with the Baltimore Orioles being the destination. After that deal fell through, the Sox emerged as the primary suitor. But that partnership has failed to deliver, too.
It seems Burnett's outing Sunday, when he didn't give up an earned run in 71/3 innings and hit a home run, didn't raise his trade value as much as it made the Marlins more interested in keeping him.
''I think [the Marlins] have finally realized they are a better club with him than with a replacement for him,'' Braunecker said. ''I know there is ongoing dialogue and they will continue to entertain discussions, but what their intent is now, I don't know. I think the intent a week ago was to move him for a package, but it appears, from what I've been told, that has changed. I think they are just as inclined to keep him as they are to move him.''
The biggest trade snag seems to be that nobody is willing to take third baseman Mike Lowell along with Burnett. Lowell still has $21.25 million left on a contract that runs through 2007, and the Marlins don't seem interested in picking up much, if any, of it. The Sox already have an overloaded roster, and adding Lowell would mean losing a component that has helped them compile the best record in baseball. Then there is the money issue.
''Nobody has asked anything from us to this point, but it's still pure speculation,'' Braunecker said. ''I really don't know [about the trade snags] because the asking price of Baltimore was pretty steep. But Baltimore was in agreement with it; they just couldn't get the Lowell situation to work out.
"The Lowell situation, whether that is impeding this, it's speculation from various sources that it is part of the hang-up. In terms of the asking price, it sounds like the players have been agreed upon. They just have to agree upon the details.''
I don't think Politte would be part of any deal...Stark mentioning that is the first I've heard of that....BTW, I do enjoy Stark's rumblings, and radio time on Mike & Mike, but he always seems to me at least that's no more than the Sam Smith of MLB....report every possible rumor you hear, and eventually you may get one right.I really hope this is true, I could do without Burnett especially if Politte is part of the deal. From Today's SunTimes:Burnett deal appearing less likelyJason Stark on ESPN radio is saying the White Sox are looking like the top contender to land AJ Burnett. Good post, should have prefaced my post to take it with a grain of salt, but it was also the first I heard about who the White Sox were willing to deal for Burnett.I don't think Politte would be part of any deal...Stark mentioning that is the first I've heard of that....BTW, I do enjoy Stark's rumblings, and radio time on Mike & Mike, but he always seems to me at least that's no more than the Sam Smith of MLB....report every possible rumor you hear, and eventually you may get one right.I really hope this is true, I could do without Burnett especially if Politte is part of the deal. From Today's SunTimes:Burnett deal appearing less likelyJason Stark on ESPN radio is saying the White Sox are looking like the top contender to land AJ Burnett. Sweep of the O's is now a realistic goal. 4-1 in the 8th. Yeah baby just end their season right here and right now!

Not to mention that gooch was hit yesterday... f'ing ridiculous. Can't wait for the BoSox and Yankees series... should be a nice litmus test for the best team in baseballMagic Number: 44
69-35...15 game lead..
Buerhle's ejection was ridiculous. Baltimore had hit a batter a few innings earlier, Buerhle hits Surhoff, and gets ejected, no warning.

Good call.my pick to win the AL Central this year.

Get ready......for pain!Go Sox. Next up Boston.

I still think the White Sox made a mistake and should have picked up a bat before the trade deadline. They are unquestionably the team to beat in my mind, and another bat would have virtually guarenteed a WS for them. So, right now the magic number for the White Sox is 36 after the 2-1 10 inning win today, correct ?
Cleveland is cleaning up on the Royals so I don't think we're going to lower than tonight.
There's still a lot of speculation that Griffey could end up in Chicago, but a lot of things have to happen for that to become real.I agree that it would have been nice to, at least, have 1 good hitter on the bench who can rotate in the lineup, the way Ozzie mixed in Frank Thomas/Carl Everett....Right now, in a close game, Guillen doesn't really have a dependable hitter to turn to.I still think the White Sox made a mistake and should have picked up a bat before the trade deadline. I did like the pickup of Blum, even though he hasn't hit much since being acquired....His versitiility will be able to help get Crede and Uribe some rest down the stretch.
I've heard Dmitri Young's name mentioned also....
Will be interesting to see if the White Sox can acquire another hitter without being blocked by the big spenders (Yankees, Red Sox specifially ) of the AL.
It would be nicer if they swept Boston! No matter what anybody says, these 2 series against the Yanks and Sawx will be a true test to see where the White Sox stand against two of the best teams in the AL. I like taking 2 out of 3 against the Yanks to start this trip.... that was huge. But it would be even bigger if they go into Fenway and take another 2 out of 3

No worries...I don't think anyone expected this team to play great from beginning to finish and still have a great season. I don't mind this little slump at all. It was bound to happen at some point, let's just be glad it's right now and now 3 or 4 weeks from now.I'm starting to feel :X
Had a chance to go to this game tonight and I'm glad I didn't.

Until this 5 game losing steak the only slumps were a couple of 3-game losing streaks which the followed by 7 and 8 game winning streaks.
Let's get some guys healthy and get focused to finish strong and with some momentum going into the playoffs.

Good info hereI think it is time to bump this up. Us Cub fans are laughing our arses off.
Oh and Go Indians.

How are the Crubs doing this year?

The Sox have been liberally resting all of their starters and are going with a 5 and 6 man rotation. Add the bottom 2 starters to the bullpen and come with the best lineup everyday and I am ready for Cle, Oak, NYY BooSox and even the Krypto A's. Bring on the Cardinals'
Of course if we only would have kept Bartolo I would be predicting victory. Now I am cautiously optimistic we can play and beat the best.

Keep resting starters and going 6 deep in the rotation, it's working beautifully. No better way to flop at the end of the season or in the ALDS than to do what you just said. You need to be a machine now, not before the ASB.

Go Sox.2 of 3 but the Indians are still coming strong. This would be the perfect time to get on one of those rolls again. The key to this season is going to be the 3 game set at home vs. Cleveland next week...If the White Sox take 2 of 3, I think that should take care of the division.
First things first though, let's avoid a disaster in Minnesota this weekend.
