***Official WIS Sim XIII Draft Thread - The HoVG (1 Viewer)

I am debating going with only 10 pitchers. Have almost 1600 innings and a lot if flexibility... Low inning starters, starters who can relieve etc.

I have 10 pitchers and 1921 innings but 333 are from **** Rudolph who is mop-up and really spotty starter. Might add one more, not sure.

I'm @ 10 with 1570 innings, might go one more, still debating

I've always gone with at least 11 pitchers and as many as 13 in the first dice rolling league. It's generally been my experience that the last guy in the bullpen sees more action than the last guy on the bench but I don't go for as much platooning and low AB players as some of you.

I have 6 OFers: Gamble, Veach, Harrelson, Sheckard, Magee, and Lonnie Smith. Sheckard will platoon at 3B unless his D glove is too much and I have 763 PAs from Buddy Myer so I don't need a back-up 2Bman. Fregosi has 679 PAs so I don't really need a back-up SS either. I'm not even sure what to draft with my last two picks.

Mmmm ... we've seen a lot of these guys in past sims. Many of them just have terrible histories of underperformance in this thing.Now, with the recent October WIS updates, maybe some things have changed. But I'm betting that basic batting performance won't be that different. Most of the tweaks involved fielding.

most of you do have much more WIS experience than i do.that reminds me... do any of you play WIS outside of these FBG drafts? How does it differ?

Jfranco plays/used to play a ton outside of our drafts. Hoos has done some, too.

You'll be fine. Used to always go with 10 pitchers, but I agree with Eephus -- the 11th pitcher is more useful than the 15th batter.One good use of that 11th pitcher is a usable starter that can take the place of a bed-####ting SP.

I opted to go for a 2nd PH over another pitcher. I have a little over 1600 IP from 11 pitchers and I'm just hoping it is enough. I will only have 4 outfielders, but also Griffey Senior is a PH who can play OF in a pinch.

I do play a lot of WIS outside of FBG. I play in all kinds of different theme leagues so it's a very varied experience. The main difference is that almost all of the leagues are capped. I prefer this setup much more - uncapped, but nobody is getting Ruth/Mantle/Williams/Pedro/Maddux/Johnson on their team. This feels more like real baseball where I actually try to draft 25 players who all have a purpose.

Strang is graded at just about every position(although poorly) so he can fill AB's in a pinch. He's also a switch hitter which will be nice to have as a PH option.

One thing I look forward to with this format is the flexibility. Right now, I have 6 OFs - I could go true lefty / righty platoon. I could go for Power, I could go for Defense - or any combination of the above.

Similar situation with pitching. Starters / relievers, what have you - lots of options. Should be fun to experiment and work out.
