***OFFICIAL WIS XIV DRAFT THREAD*** (1 Viewer)

Speaking of fantasy sports, I've always wondered what it would be like if we combined all the baseball nerds here into one super team for a national contest like the NFBC. Would we have the ability to reach consensus on building the perfect roster?

3.18- Arsenal of Doom OTC

19- HellToupee (or whoever is running his team) On deck

20- Tremendous Upside

21- Super Nintendo Chalmers

22- Doug B (skip if not in thread)

23- oso diablo

24- Northern Voice (long time between picks)

I pmed Sparty who is in the thread. Allegedly. Also topped off my mid day trading spree in my biggest fantasy league by getting rid of Ryan the Broken Train Torain in return for Mike Sims Walker. Threw in Steve :deadbananaincarolina: Smith, whom I needed to drop to pick up a defense anyway.Positioning myself for a couple weeks from now to hopefully trade Freeman and either Moss or MSW (seems to have decided to finally play this year) for a stud WR. Gotta love 2QB leagues.
Fantasy football sucks
i'm so over it.
I had bored of it in recent years, but found myself more into it again this year. It's a good diversion and can make me some $$'s. Ironically, not having the NFL channel and the package may have helped. I had FF overload for a few years.
I tire of second guessing myself and then kicking myself in the ### all day when you sit hillis for green-ellis or some #### like that.
make better decisions then.Seriously, I need to get my competitive juices going somehow as my competitive sports career is at the least still on long term hiatus due to a chronic back condition. Though cortisone shots are giving me some hope.I had bored of it in recent years, but found myself more into it again this year. It's a good diversion and can make me some $$'s. Ironically, not having the NFL channel and the package may have helped. I had FF overload for a few years. That said, my fiancee may (read: WILL) disagree. She hates football. And jocks/guys who do a lot of sports. Lucky for her she got me when I was already a sport invalid.

3.18 Zeke Bonura 1B

Key Facts

In a seven-season career, Bonura posted a .307 batting average with 119 home runs and 704 RBI in 917 games played.

One of Zeke Bonura's more noteworthy athletic accomplishments has nothing to do with the sport of baseball. In June 1925, at the age of sixteen, Bonura became the youngest male athlete ever to win an event at the National (AAU) Track and Field Championships. Young Zeke threw the javelin 65.18 meters to claim the title. Bonura's winning effort was a meet record by nearly twenty-feet; a prodigious mark that remained on the books until 1930.

A member of AoD's playoff making squad in the HoVG sim.

Just ordered this for cabin coffee table

I've been doing some research to find West End Park/Burns Park in Detroit, which was used in the early 1900s on Sundays because of blue laws.

The Sunday games at Burns Park were a popular success. Attendance in 1901 averaged 5,208 per game vs. 3,364 for non-Sunday games at the regular Detroit home park, Bennett Park. Likewise in 1902 attendance averaged 4,473 per game at Burns Park vs. 2,539 for games at Bennett Park. However, the park suffered from being in an unsavory area -- both stockyards and numerous saloons were nearby. After forcing a sale of the club after the 1901 season, the AL (which in that time period meant effectively the AL President Ban Johnson) put pressure on the new Tigers ownership to cease the use of Burns Park as the AL sought an improved image for the AL and baseball in general vs. the rowdy, liquor-laden, fight-prone crowds at Burns Park.
:banned:
Burns Park was the best hitter’s park in the Deadball Era. No other Deadball Era ballpark had batting park factors to compare with it. Burns Park was, in a manner of speaking, the Coors Field of the Deadball Era. For example, the Tigers at Burns Park had a batting average of .354 in 1901 and .322 in 1902. In context, in the same two seasons the AL had batting averages of .277 and .275. The .354 average in 1901 at Burns Park was the highest major league home park team batting average since 1900.
I am still trying to find the exact location of this park to try and get a historical marker put there but there is very little data about exactly where it was. I've been out there twice to look and where it seems to have been is now a Norfolk Southern Rail Yard. I have to go to the Detroit Historical Society to see if they have any pictures at all of the park, but my hope of finding a Sanborn map is dead. :goodposting:

Butch Wensloff, SP - 1943 New York Yankees

At the conclusion of the 1943 season, Wensloff enlisted in the United States Army and served in World War II.[22] When the Yankees were preparing for the start of the 1944 season, the team originally had no idea where Wensloff was, as they had not heard from him.[23] He was inactive for the 1944 season. In 1945, Wensloff was traded from the Yankees to the San Diego Padres of the Pacific Coast League for Johnny Kreevich, allowing him to simultaneously pitch professionally and continue serving in the war.[24] In 10 games for the Padres, he won three and lost four with a 3.82 ERA.[4] Afer the 1945 season and the war ended, Wensloff remained in military service, and as a result did not play in 1946.[25]
Happy Veterans Day!

Rico Carty, OF

eta: sent pm to Doug B. He was in thread at the time and said not to skip if he was on the board.
Glad someone took him off the board. The defense is just awful (well, the range). But that offense - oh so tempting.Something tells me that the best offense in this game may be the collectively weak defenses.

With only 2 position players taken I can already say my D is going to suck. It will be interesting to see if a good line up is enough to make up for it, due to everyone having the same issue.,

There aren't that many +/- plays for OFs. Lack of OF range isn't as big of a problem in the sim engine as it used to be.

He is not on the board at all, checked all forums. I'd think he'd be ok with us moving forward since he said to do so. May have been called away as he said he'd be busy today.

sORRY guys I'm off work Today and tomorrow.

My skip pick I will take Hardy Richardson - 1885 Buffalo Bisons 2B

Once again, I come up at 5 minutes to 5...

3.24 - SP - **** Hughes, 1967 St. Louis Cardinals

Beacuse his name sounds like **** Huge

4.01 - SS - Gene DeMontreville, 1896 Washington Senators

Eugene Napolean DeMontreville, the elegantly-named son of French parents, appeared in boxscores mostly as plain Gene Demont due to the space limitations of the typesetters. He finished his career with 228 stolen bases and was the master of the delayed steal.

I'm curious to see how Hughes will do in this sim. The quality of sluggers he'll be facing won't punish him like the usual all-time bats. Jarry Park won't help his HR/9 rate though.
