I now have 846 IP with 3 or more IP/game...

I'm going to somehow magically turn that into starting pitching for 162 games...

and I don't have a clue how I'm going to do it.

if you're curious:

Henry is 4.5 for 32 games

Bohanon is 4 for 39 games

Fernandez is 7 for 34 games

Ogea is 5 for 22 games

Portugal is 5.6 for 18 games

Melendez is 3 for 31 games

Abbot is 3 for 25 games

Fernandez #1

Tandem Ogea and Bohanon #2

Tandem Portugal and Henry #3

Tandem Melendez and Abbott #4

The problem with doing tandems is that you end up with very few guys in your bullpen. So I think you'll just have to manually move guys around. Or try leaving it that way but check the "use starters in relief" box for Bohanon and Henry.

Couldn't remember if Sparky allowed the #2 starter to tandem or not. I knew the #1 couldn't be set to tandem.

Yeah, that's basically the plan, although I'll probably mix-and-match Melendez and Abbott with the other 4 a little more than that because I don't really want to throw 2 guys who go 3 IP in there and that's it. I see bullpen horror stories coming out of that lol

I really didn't expect so many people to think outside the box. I figured that most of the good 120-180 IP pitchers with low IP/G would fall really far, as well as the really good (but not great) 80-110 IP relievers, while everyone focused on awesome <50 IP guys and mediocre >180 IP guys.

My plan all along was to build a pretty short rotation and a deep, deep bullpen of outstanding relievers. If we could get 3-4 IP out of the starter and then start bringing in aces out of the bullpen, I figured I could come out a good 1/2 run ahead of the league average in ERA despite picking 4 hitters in the first 5 rounds.

It didn't quite work out perfectly, and I probably need to draft 1 more pitcher, but here's what I have so far

Is this kind of strategy still possible these days? I noticed in the last few sims that when a pitcher went over his real-life Games Pitched -- regardless of pitch counts or innings pitched -- that their fatigue and performance fell off a cliff.

Take your Alan Benes season. Looks like he's at 23 real-life starts (didn't look it up). You've got him in a five-man rotation, so you'll start him 33-34 times. Benes might perform as expected through 25 or 26 starts, but then hit a wall at his 27th start -- and then really fall apart thereafter. And as far as I can tell, limiting pitch counts/innings per start doesn't help with that at all.

Maybe I've misinterpreted some results that I've seen from my own squads, and maybe I've misunderstood some WIS forum postings. But I've been under the impression that the pitching strategy you've outlined has been sharply curtailed by recent (post 2009) sim-engine changes.
