Official World Cup 2010 Fantasy League (1 Viewer)

Also, I'd like to add that this is the first fantasy draft I've done in about 3 or 4 years now. I don't play fantasy NFL or anything else, as soccer is by far my #1 these days. I've also never seen a soccer draft like this one.

me either, I haven't done any drafts for years. haven't followed soccer for even more years, i'm sure it shows  was looking for a good reason to get back into it.

Going on on a limb here...12.10 Robert Green, GK, ENG
Its a big risk for a potential 0, but if you were going to do it, you probably had to do it now. If this league had even 1 bench position or extra round to drop someone after lineups are more clear, I would have taken Green several rounds ago.

The worst part is that there are 3 GKs that could start for them (none of which are any good...).

Paulson was the second defender Boubs sniped on me (van der Wiel was the first a few rounds back).

13.02 - Holger Badstuber, DF, Germany

another uncertain starter

I have a lot of different teams (10) on my roster. I'm not sure if that's a good thing or not. Thus far I have these teams: ENG, ITA, MEX, SPA, GER, ARG, JPN, CHI, NED, POR. Some of those teams will not make it out of Group. I think most will.

The only 3 teams that I have 2 players are: England, Italy, and Spain. Those three are pretty damn likely to make it out of Group.

It's an interesting study. I think I'm going a far different route than most - I take a look at some teams that are made up of a ton of players from Brazil, Spain, England, etc. - all chalk teams across the board. I've gone the opposite route, getting a bunch of sure starters that could make an impact...but could easily be going home after 3 games. However, I'm banking on some of those all chalk teams having to drop a few players once the waivers hit to get down to 11, so I might be able to pick up a few. At this point, we have, say, 4 Argentinian strikers already picked. Only 2 of those guys are going to start - I'm hoping that the sheer magnitude of group stage appearances helps my team out immensely.I think I'm ####ed in the end though. It's too late to pick players on the chalk teams, because quite frankly, pretty much all of the ones worth picking have already been picked. I'm banking on Sneijder and Schweinsteiger making it through to the round of 16, and it's looking like I'll need both Uruguay and France to advance for me to have a shot as well. The way France have been playing (and consequently, the way Mexico have been playing) lead me to think that's not going to happen.GK - Fernando Muslera, UruguayGK -DF - Bacary Sagna, FranceDF - Carlos Salcido, MexicoDF - Daniel Agger, DenmarkDF -DF -DF -MF - Wesley Sneijder, NetherlandsMF - Bastian Schweinsteiger, GermanyMF - Park Ji-Sung, South KoreaMF - Steven Pienaar, South AfricaMF - Alexandre Song, CameroonMF -ST - Nicolas Anelka, FranceST - Diego Forlan, UruguayST - Jozy Altidore, United StatesST -

There's a lot of strategy in this game, since your team is pretty much set after the draft. The scoring system makes all the difference here. If starts are vitally important, then getting the players on those chalk teams is critical. If scoring and "explosive" games are worth more than the "chalk starts" then it might be better to go your route.

But there's just as much luck with the paucity of scoring in soccer. Plus the chalk isn't a sure thing in the WC. There will be a good team that doesn't make it out of group.

question re: injuries

we have didier drogba. i read a decision does not have to be made until June 14, one day before their June 15 opener. ...Can we still get a replacement at that time or are we SOL?

If he is officially ruled out for the cup and replaced on his team, you will have the option to make a pickup. You will not be allowed to pick a player who has already played in his first group stage match, as that could give you an unfair "waiver" pickup of some unknown guy who gets hot and scores a hat trick in the opener.
