**Official Yacht Rock Headquarters** - It's time to feel good (1 Viewer)

Tired of Covid discussion? Done with politics? Got too many pet peeves to list? Think it's enough already with the non-Yacht Rock music threads?

Then you've come to the right place. Each day, I will post something with the sole purpose of making myself and all of you feel good for a few minutes. If you don't like any of these masterpieces, then you obviously have no soul and don't get to exist in this space. And I weep for humanity as we sink closer to the abyss... but I digress. As I said, this is a place to channel the '70s and feel groovy.

In no particular order, let the good vibes begin:

Bread - "Make it With You"

I really like the simple message these lyrics convey. Why beat around the bush? Let's get to the good stuff, baby! This is top 1, as they all will be.

****ETA:  I should've made it more clear from the start. But please REFRAIN from posting Yacht Rock videos/suggestions of your own in the initial stages. You have to mete out this kind of happiness. You can't just turn on the fire hose and not expect people to drown. Patience, my fellow shipmates!

Once I run out of gas, I'll happily turn it over to everyone else to add anything I end up missing, which I no doubt will.

OK, this isn't Lord of the Flies. We apparently need rules in order to have fun. Only rule:  No Bogarting my selections until I'm done. And then, of course, if I've missed some, feel free to add to the good times!
Your boat, your ship, your thread. My bad.

Gotta say, Yacht Rock xm channel is my go to (other than baseball games) for floating in the pool in the summer. In.

This is pure genius:

Hey, have you ever tried
Really reaching out for the other side?
I may be climbing on rainbows
But baby, here goes

Dreams, they're for those who sleep
Life is for us to keep
And if you're wondering what this song is leading to
I want to make it with you
I really think that we could make it, girl

No, you don't know me well
In every little thing only time will tell
But you believe the things that I do
And we'll see it through

Life can be short or long
Love can be right or wrong
And if I chose the one I'd like to help me through
I'd like to make it with you
I really think that we could make it, girl

Baby, you know that dreams, they're for those who sleep
Life, it's for us to keep
And if I chose the one I'd like to help me through
I'd like to make it with you
I really think that we could make it, girl

If a song written in the '70s doesn't contain at least one reference to rainbows, just makes you wonder what in the hell they were thinking.

There is a phone line called "Callin' Oates."

If you call (719) 266-2837  ((719 26-OATES)) you can choose from a selection of your favorite Hall and Oates songs.
I almost posted that in here

So great.

Just called for a little “Rich Girl”

This is already my new favorite thread. Pretty much go to sleep to Yacht Rock and at least one day a week in the office it's what I'm blasting through my small Bluetooth speaker.

Possibly takes it out of Yacht Rock territory, but Aretha does a glorious cover of this on the Aretha Live at the Fillmore West album.

Updated the initial post...

The way I see it, all songs in history with any merit to them fit into one of the following categories:

1) I want that girl/boy

2) I want any girl/boy

3) I got that girl/boy and it was great

4) I miss that girl/boy now that they're gone

5) I should've never got that girl/boy and wish they were gone

We here at Yacht Rock Headquarters have a philosophy to focus on only the first four categories.

I had a yacht rock countdown planned after the Zep/Beatles ones were done. As long as you started this, I’ll tack on eventually. 👍

FYP.

Wesley Morris' episode in the podcast series 1619 might be my single favorite podcast episode ever.  Yes, there is a Yacht Rock episode in an audio series from the NYT observing the 400th anniversary of the beginning of American slavery. I've listened to it a handful of times since it came out, and the yacht rock parts make me smile every single time.   (hopefully this isn't against OP's thread rules).

ETA:  It's not all cheery yacht rock, as you might assume from the overarching subject matter, and contains some disturbing language and "mental imagery".  But the way he ties it all together is pretty amazing.
