I'm trying to remember how the Yanks did it, and I'm not so sure everyone does it in one day. I don't know what kind of "draw" it is to see guys get their rings, but I know the Phils did the same thing. Kind of cheesy I guess to make a big deal about LCS rings, but then again, the Rays were an incredible story and still a pretty young franchise, so I can understand the enthusiasm and I don't think its so out of line that they did the banner one day and the rings the next. Let more fans be part of the pagentry and have some funanyone else think it was strange that the Rays raised the banner one night and then gave out the rings the next? Most teams do all that stuff in one night.
agreed. i dont think its a big deal. However, i have the feeling they wouldnt have spread it out had the Royals been in town. I had actually defended the guy, who caught a lot of flack last year for a poor stat line, but that was as much Girardi leaving him to rot in Texas on a hot night and 40 plus pitches the day after he threw 20 plus and he eventually gave up a granny, which will kill your stat line for a while out of the pen.But to see lefties cuff him around and Grady absolutely smoke him, THATS disconcerting. There's a reason the Veras' of the world pitch the 6th/7th, because they can be good and they can be bad.The bullpen Damaso Marte is officially a concern
Pretty sure the White Sox raised banners before game one and gave rings before game 2. :( :XYou? What about Righetti?#### that ####. If Jeter gets his 3000 hit with a team other than the Yankees Ill be livid.
I laughed. If a Cubs fan could chime in and let us know how they did it in 1909, that would be great.thanks

I know where your going with this, but by the time he's done, he's going to be comparable in numbers to Ripken and he will have won more gold gloves showing he mixed the hits with the leather(Derek Jeter isn't a HOFer.Discuss.
Did he deserve even one of those? Serious question here.he will have won more gold gloves showing he mixed the hits with the leather().
only played 9 games. only have 1 opening day of a new stadium...p.s. C.C. is averaging 24.52 pitches an inning so far....Giantseasonticketholder said:Last Placeway to open the new joint!!![]()

Joba belongs in the pen, and should take over when Mo retires.Like this?between yesterdays meltdown by the pen and todays meltdown by Joba the Joba to the pen stories are gonna be loud and clear.
Does David price belong in the pen? TB did the same thing with him yet I dont hear the same idiocy from mediaheads about Price belonging in the pen. All Im saying is Joba should be given a year to start. If its determined he cant start then the transition to the pen is simple and can be done in the future.Giantseasonticketholder said:Joba belongs in the pen, and should take over when Mo retires.Like this?blackjack23 said:between yesterdays meltdown by the pen and todays meltdown by Joba the Joba to the pen stories are gonna be loud and clear.

Jeter as a Yankee = HOFJeter as a Pirate <> HOFI don't really see the comparision to Ripken. I think more like Julio Franco with more chances to produce in the spotlight thanks to the team he is on. He's going to probably end up with at least 3300 hits. At least. Probably more. The only way he reaches 3300 hits is if he is DHing for someone for several years. I don't think his ego will let him do that. No way in Hades does he reach 3300 hits as a SS. I think he hangs it up way before then. One thing that helps him in getting to 3000 is the fact that he is in the top 5 every season for ABs. If he is hitting leadoff for a team like Pittsburgh or Washington, that is a lot of 1-4 or 2-3 days as opposed to 3-6 or 2-5. Not to mention hitting in a stacked lineup helps. In his defense, he thought it was Backwards Day.Seriously, there has never been a worse umpire in the history of professional baseball than Phil Cuzzi. Horrid call on what should have been strike 3, and a possibly even worse call on DeRosa for the one that WAS called strike 3.He sucks SO badly, how the hell does he have a job?!?
Jeter being in the top 5 in ABs every year was a guess on your part? I think he's only been top 5 twice, top 10 four times, I believe. DHing for someone for several years? By the end of this season, he'll be over 2700, barring injury. That's 600 away from 3300. I think he'll switch positions eventually, sure. Probably to the OF. By the time he's DHing, if that ever happens, he'll be long past 3300, IMO. The argument that this guy isn't a HOF caliber player is laughable. The only way he reaches 3300 hits is if he is DHing for someone for several years. I don't think his ego will let him do that. You would be even more fair if you included the other league in you analysis. You know, since you're argument is based on Jeter playing for the Pirates and Nationals. Not reaching. You simply said I was guessing at a stat, and I wanted to show you that I was not. Since I am bored, let's continue with this idea of Jeter playing with the Pirates. I will put the 7 seasons that Jeter was in the top 11 in MLB in Plate Appearances and match it against the best PA number on the whole Pirate team for that year...PAs - Jeter1997 MLB--748--1st (4 more than 2nd)1999 MLB--739--2nd2002 MLB--730--2nd 2004 MLB--721--8th 2005 MLB--752--1st (20 more than 2nd)2006 MLB--715--11th 2007 MLB--714--10thTotal - 5119PAs - Leading Pirate1997--5721999--6752002--6442004--6932005--7072006--6892007--653Total - 4633That is 69.5 more PAs that the highest Pirate each year. At a 0.316 BA that is 21 more hits per year, or 147 over that same time frame. 285 hits over his career to this point. Giving him 2237 hits at this point. Long way off from 3000. And this is just assuming that he would be the Pirate with the most PAs, have the same protection in the lineup, etc. etc.It is not a reach in the least that being on the Yankees has helped Jeter's career. You would be even more fair if you included the other league in you analysis. You know, since you're argument is based on Jeter playing for the Pirates and Nationals. Right, but hitting .316 with the Pirates over that time would mean he was by FAR the team's best hitter. As such, he'd have hit 3rd rather than 1st or leadoff, and he'd probably have a bunch of 100-RBI seasons. We can play the hypothetical game all day here. Let's face it; part of the reason the Pirates PA leader doesn't have a lot of PA is because they've rarely had talented players that remained with them all season long. A better comparison (which may help your argument, I don't know) is to see how many PA the typical Pirates #2 hitter had. If that number is far off from Jeter's totals, you may be onto something. Not reaching. You simply said I was guessing at a stat, and I wanted to show you that I was not.
