I think the important ranking to Yankee FO is 7th in attendance %. I'm sure they base all budgets off of a targeted % filled. Are hitting what they need?

Well its kind of hard to lead the league when your'e last in home games. By my count, they have the highest average attendance. And don't regard this as a defense for these bozos on the corporate end, the seats immediately behind and around the dish do look ridiculous, but any other empty seats you see are because people are ringing the bells and blowing the whistles in the new place. But this was a concern of mine back to the first exhibition game and how the new attractions would alter the atmosphere, and I put that in the Yankee Stadium thread.

Tough call for me. I understand the economy (in this industry more than anyone)...but since this is NEW Yankee Stadium...I wouldn't be surprised if their expectation was higher.

Tough call for me. I understand the economy (in this industry more than anyone)...but since this is NEW Yankee Stadium...I wouldn't be surprised if their expectation was higher.

Lead the league in attendance Who cares? It's the biggest city in the country. Lets look at the percentage of empty seats. This team is just spends more and fails more. It's ridiculous. Anything short of winning the WS 3 of the next 5 years is a failure.

That's probably what the Yankees are sitting around talking about now.I can tell you for reference that most FL Spring Training stadiums were down around 15% in attendance this Spring, including Legends...except the Phillies (WS Champs) and Rays (AL Champs + new stadium). Both these teams were actually up in attendance.So where should the New YS fall considering the economy, new facility, and pricing structure? Not sure....

The problems with the Yankees extends much deeper than Girardi. The entire organization is p.o.s. and makes me embarrassed to be a fan of the team.

I'm generally optimistic/realistic in regard to this team, but tonight's effort was garbage IMO. I get the notion of "jump on Halladay early before he gets ahead" for a trip through the batting order. I think the team falls in the rut of taking strike one as a cookie way too often, so to shake up strategy and go after a guy, ok, nice change. But to make this your game wide strategy? They showed SLIGHTLY more disclipine in the 8th, but man oh man, I can take losing, and I can take rebuilding, but I can't take ABs like they're trying to make the 2 for 1 dance special before 10 at the Brass Rail. I do get it ot a degree, you went into tonight with no Jeter, no Swish, but lord have mercy, at least K's take 3 pitches and you might get a sniff at the pen. This was just a through the motions effort. And enough of AJ's pouty face because things didn't go you way. Through a mother f'ing strike if things don't go your way. Thats one thing I'll always miss about Boomer Wells, you might beat his brains in but he wasn't going to beat his own brains in walking the bags full. And still as unlikely as a 9th inning rally was, AJ wilting in the 8th really left me flat. This team needs a Rick Down style hitting coach and fast, these ABs are pathetic. I know Cano has shown improvement under long and apparently A-Rod loves him, but he doesn't seem to be doing much for the rest of these guys. Where have you gone Gene Michael? I think the 'modern methodology' as a strict rule, is not treating this organization well, and everything old is new again, maybe a little old school would be just the copycat blueprint these guys need. Watching Cash try to pull off this Beane/Theo/Riccardi impression is wearing thin.

It's the baseball forum? You Yanks fans need some thicker skin. When you're team is an abomination and you're underachieving as you have consistently done for the past 8 or 9 years fans of other teams might also have an opinion of why your team sucks so badly. Rays fans i.e. Capella, got busted on for a long time. Rays fans even got busted on when they were in last place earlier this season. If you wanted a thread with just Yankees fans involved, I'm sure there are some great message boards on the Yanks fansites out there.

I'm fine with them not hitting him, and given that lineup last night, I pretty much expected a loss last night.it was just those absolute crap ABs though. And worse yet, the fact that THEY seemed to be chalking last night as a loss before first pitch. You kinda lost me right here. If you want to say they've underachieved since last April, I'm with you. But failing to win the World Series is a far cry from underachieving. What if they had won it once - would that mean they didn't underachieve all the times they didn't win? That's a very flawed stance.They made the playoffs all but one of those years you're referring to. Any time you make the playoffs, you haven't underachieved. Even if you lose and get swept in the first round. As I've said about a million times before, it just means you didn't play as well during that 3-5 game stretch...that's baseball.

Cracking .500 isn't anything to be proud of. I'll be the first to admit it. This team has as much talent as just about any team that's ever been assembled. That's why it's so crazy. Why do they continue to hang onto Cashman? They spent what, $225Million last year? Finished 3rd in the division? If I was a Yankee homer the last 9 years I'd be The message is not clear. It has to be. You come to the Yankees and we blow up your salary you have to perform. Over the years they bring in bloated contract underachievers and it continues to happen...no repercussion or adjustments. When the next high dollar aging free agent hits the market the Yankees will be there to scoop him up. Once again if I were a fan I'd be outraged about how things have been handled over the last decade. I'd rather be a Royals fan...at least I'd know my team was losing because of resources....not misuse and management or resources.

They've been playing guys named Green, Bailey, and Van Every. Big Papi has been INVISIBLE. Lester, Beckett, and Penny have ERAs in the sixes.You don't think think that they won't do any better heading forward? They also have Smoltz, Buchholz, and Bowden waiting in the wings and a number of guys in AAA in the bullpen with low ERAs and WHIPs. And the Yankees are the ones that will win 115 games?Since you mentioned it, New York would have to go 100-30 the rest of the way (.769). I'll take the under if the win total for them is 115.

Let's chat Yuker. Clearly this isn't the red sox thread, but you want to know why I'm more optimistic about the yankees than the sox. Let me address some of your points.Dice-K will be back, and replacing Masterson in the rotation. Problem is that Masterson is a BETTER starter than DiceK! That's subtraction by addition. Papi is on a SHARP decline that started last season. I don't see the Yankee sluggers declining to the same degree (this year). Pedroia is a nice little player, but he's not going to have another MVP season for you guys. Players that are 5'8 160 lbs aren't offensive powerhouses. It just doesn't happen. Lester and Beckett should improve, but Penny is cooked, and Smoltz is already eyeing the PGA tour. You have to agree that Wakefield is going to come back to earth as well. There is room for improvement for the Red Sox, but they don't have the TREMENDOUS UPSIDE POTENTIAL that the Yankees have.

And while we're on the subject of Yankee / Red Sox comparisions. Let's talk Brett Gardner. I've seen a bunch of H8ters busting on him in this thread. But if you look at his minor league numbers, they are virtually identical to the numbers of one Jacoby Ellsbury. Long-term they project to be almost identical players. Every team has injuries. The Red Sox are in worse shape than the Yankees injury wise.

The Yankees obviously don't have a manager that can handle this type of adversity. They'd be better off with Alex Cora wearing the manager's hat.
