Almost felt bad for him. First he stinks up the joint going 0-4 with 3 Ks, then he goes to the hockey game and jinxes them by rooting for the wings.Da Guru said:How and or why is Brandon Inge still playing MLB?
It wasn't Inge's fault Leyland kept playing Inge for years after he started to suck. Leyland is loyal to players to a fault sometimes.Don't understand the Inge hate.

The problem was, he brought nothing to the table at least the last couple of years.Gopher State said:agreed Inge left nothing on the table when he played for the tigersGreco said:Don't understand the Inge hate.
That is the problem. It had nothing to do with Inge as a person or his effort. Tiger fans were sick of watching him flail away 500 times a season. Inge has only batted over .236 three times in 13 seasons...the last time in 2006 Inge is a marginal utility type of player. Not a guy you plug in everyday for years like Leyland did. Inge is a career .234 hitter..and has not hit over 250 since 2005. Those kinds of hitters usually have short careers. The problem was, he brought nothing to the table at least the last couple of years.Gopher State said:agreed Inge left nothing on the table when he played for the tigersGreco said:Don't understand the Inge hate.
An earlier poster made the good point that Leyland was at fault for playing him that much. No player is going to bench/cut himself. That is the problem. If Inge was the bullpen catcher I would love him.
The guy he pitched against isn't a bad #5 either.Best #5 pitcher in the world right now.
They're on pace for some sort of records for all the strikeouts, too (I think it was avg. K's/9 innings). And, yeah, even Porcello is joining that party. This rotation is sick. Right now, per fangraphs, the Tigers have the numbers 2 (Sanchez), 5 (Verlander), 6 (Scherzer) and 14 (Fister) pitchers by WAR in all of baseball. No other team has more than 2 in the top 20.
Wait, JIM Leyland????It wasn't Inge's fault Leyland kept playing Inge for years after he started to suck. Leyland is loyal to players to a fault sometimes.Greco said:Don't understand the Inge hate.

Peralta deserves to be batting 5th. He has been stroking the ball all season. Just bump VMart down one spot would do wonders.Too bad Cabrera can't bat 5th and 6th, too.
As the resident Peralta hater I have to say his K's are up, BB's are down, ISO is down, and his 413 BABIP sticks out like a sore thumb. He has replaced some fly balls with line drives, but not enough to explain the difference between these two months and the previous 10 years.Peralta deserves to be batting 5th. Fister does look comfortable with a bat..takes a nice healthy cut at the ball as well. Sad to see great efforts by Fister and Chef Porcello go to waste in the last week. Time for Verlander to be the stopper.Doctor Detroit said:I think Fister would be one of the better hitting pitchers if he played in the NL, college 3Bman. Maybe have him pinch hit for Avila? Guy can pitch a little too.
Team hasn't scored in forever, four straight hits tonight and couldn't get a run. Brookens not a good 3B coach yet, hopefully he's learning.
I'll be at all three games this weekend!!!
Yup, two winnable games that we dropped in the 11th. Batters gotta come through. Don't know if sending Tulu in the 5th was the right move or not (close play?). Fister would have been up with the bases loaded, nobody out. But even then, he's likely to strike out or maybe hit into a double play ...they'd probably have let the run score. Coulda, shoulda ...Fister does look comfortable with a bat..takes a nice healthy cut at the ball as well. Sad to see great efforts by Fister and Chef Porcello go to waste in the last week. they are also on pace to go 90-72, kinda shows where improvement is still needed.Another interesting Tigers piece on fangraphs. This one is on the entire rotation.
Basically, adjusting for era, league, defense, etc. the Tigers are on pace to easily field the best single-season rotation ever. As good as they have been, I find that pretty shocking (also interesting that this year's Cards are on pace to finish second all-time). The '02 Diamondbacks and '96-98 Braves are on the top ten list, but this Tigers team is blowing them all away.
Will be fun to watch as the year goes on.

Starting Pitching - 1st overall (by a mile)
Relief Pitching - 4th overall, 3rd in AL (I was shocked too)
Batting - 4th overall, 4th in AL
Baserunning - 15th overall, 9th in AL (would have thought this would be lower)
Fielding - 20th overall
Total WAR - 1st overall (by five wins)
I don't know what that tells us. They've been unlucky? Poor timing on pitching and hitting? Lack of the will to win (stupid)? Dumb manager?
Regardless, I think they are going to go on a hell of a run at some point and outpace most or all of the division.
Immediately? C'mon. He faced 6 battersDAMMIT!!!
Cut him loose again. Fastball, fastball, fastball, fastball, fastball ... Great game by Max, and Valverde immediately screws it up.
DAMMIT!!!
And the first three were HR, single, single ...so the winning run was on base before he got an out. Not a model of success.Limp Ditka said:Immediately? C'mon. He faced 6 batterstri-man 47 said:DAMMIT!!!

DD...actually the first HR off Grande looked like a pretty good pitch..it dipped right at the end and the hitter just made great contact. Garcia came withing an inch of catching tha ball right of the tip of his glove. Next hit was a weakly hit grounder in the right spot. At that point I felt the same as you. I said to my buddy that Grandes fastball is only hitting 92 tonight and is as straight as an arrow. Then everytime he tried to crank it up a little it went high and outside. In reality it looks like he has lost the closers mindset...well he lost that towards the end of last season and never has regained it. Looks like a worried, beaten man on the mound before he throws a pitch.I was at the game, that sucked but I saw it coming. Valverde doesn't get up a lot of homers and Markakis isn't that much of a home run hitter, so I watched the Jones at bat very closely. Fastball 91, fastball 92, fastball 91, fastball 92. So his velocity was down 3 mph and he couldn't throw the splitter. Why the #### don't you have someone throwing in the pen??? I looked down after the Jones base hot and no one was stirring, awful.
They knew he couldn't throw the split before he came in and I'm sure they can also tell his velocity is down. You can't let him go in without having someone else warm, should have been Smyly against that particular lineup. I don't agree with some Tigers fans saying Max should have come back out, he was at 117 pitches I think so he was done. But since you went through this last year with Valverde why would you not have a plan B? Leyland is an idiot, that loss is 100% on him.
One good thing from tonight besides Garcia looking terrific, is that now you know Valverde can't be closing in September and beyond. He's fine if he's throwing 94/95 with the splitter but he's just terrible throwing 91/92, we all know it. Dombrowski has to bring in a closer or we need to hope Rondon can turn into the guy we need because that Valverde tonight won't cut it. If they are playing the White Sux or Mariners he might be able to do it, but Cleveland, Texas and Baltimore are going to murder him. I can take a blown game like that in May, but I can't take another game one of the ALCS or game 4 of the ALDS again. I can't do it.
The 60 RBI total is the kicker. He is looking at potentially a 200 RBI season. He would have to keep up this tremendous pace, but if there is anyone who could it is miggy.According to ELIAS Miggy is the first player in MLB history to enter June with at least a .340 avg, 15 HRs and 60 RBI.

I think we could get Gregerson or maybe Cook, Oakland and Padres always are willing to deal guys at the right price. Maybe Cishek from the Marlins, I'm sure they would deal him. I think you have to at least look around and see what teams want leading up the trade deadline.OK one more time for fun. Who is realistically available on the market to close?.
