***Officialish Detroit Tigers Thread*** (2 Viewers)

Hack Wilson's amazing record may finally be in some jeopardy. The last time I can remember thinking that was the year Juan Gonzalez had something like 100 RBI at the All-Star break. That was insane.

Yeah RBI's are the opposite of overrated, anyone making that argument is an idiot.

Good game today, Leyland pinch-hitting Don Kelly for Garcia almost made me want to leave.

RBI is overrated. WAR...
>RBI is overrated. WAR...
His .515 BA with RISP (.577 with two outs) is just a statistically anomaly. He is just ####### lucky he is so awesome in key situation.
I believe I saw that Ryan Raburn is .667 (8-12). Miggy needs to step it up a bit.

Easy to second guess in hindsight, but did Leyland stick with Porcello a bit too long in the 7th? His pitch count starting the inning was approaching his danger point. Regardless, we've had a string of quick collapses (Sanchez, Valverde, Porcello) surrounding a couple of 11th innings reliever 'fails.'

How is this team only 6 over?
I am not sure the stat on this, but my guess is Detroit is going to smash the record for blown late-inning leads by a division winner. So far they have blown 9 leads in the 7th, 8th or 9th inning of which 7 times they ended up losing. That is awful.

Just read an article on blessyouboys.com about the Tigers rotation. They took a look at the staff using SIERA, which is a relatively new pitching metric that is the best one yet at predicting future ERA. Some don’t like to use it as a measure of what has happened, but it is as good as we have at predicting what will happen.

By SIERA, the Tigers starters ranks (in all of MLB)

2- Sanchez

3- Scherzer

6- Fister

9 – Verlander

10 - Porcello

The holy crap name on here is Porcello, who is sporting an ERA over 5. His K/BB has become ace level, but he has been horrible at leaving runners on base and giving up homeruns (his HR/FB rate is the second worst in baseball, a number that is historically very luck-driven).

Just found it interesting that by SIERA, only five teams in baseball have a better ace than the Tigers fifth best guy.

It baffles me that this team is only six games over. Don’t forget that they have scored the second most runs in baseball.

####! Peralta having an all star like season and he is on the potential list of players that could be suspended due to the Bosch investigation: http://espn.go.com/espn/otl/story/_/id/9301536/major-league-baseball-suspend-20-players-including-alex-rodriguez-ryan-braun-part-miami-investigation
Sounds like this is gonna get tied up in a lot of legal red tape.

Was Peralta taking this stuff last year? If so he should ask for his money back.
I like how MLB is getting the dealer to snitch on the users. Somehow that seems backwards.

Well your guess is a bit off.

They have blown 8 saves this year when leading in the 7th or later, St Louis has 10. Tampa, Arizona, Dodgers, Orioles, Cubs, Mets, Astros and Indians all have more. The bullpen by most statistical measures is middle of the pack, it isn't great but it isn't awful either.

The Tigers have scored two or less runs in 14 games this year, and they've lost 12 of those. Last year they were not shut out once, it has happened five times this year. So for all the 8 run outbursts this year they are scoring 3 or less runs in more than a third of their games, and have lost 17 of those. Close games they are blowing leads, in other games they simply aren't scoring enough runs with a lineup that should consistently produce at least four runs.

Interesting stuff! I know the fallacy of excluding certain performances ("if you take away MJD's 85 yard run in week 3 ...") but - Porcello had that Angels game where he couldn't get out of the first inning without giving up 8 or 9 runs. Over the course of the season and with a lot more innings pitched, that will even out. But it still is having a significant effect on his numbers. I was surprised by his HR issues...I recall Max getting bit by that more than Porcello, which seems to explain why Max has a high ERA in comparison to his low WHIP.

I wonder how many more wins we'd have if VMart were hitting at his historical pace. Nevertheless, it's early June and we've got a 2 game lead over Cleveland.

Porcello pretty much sucked all of April. But was extremely good in May. Surprised he could be considered top 10 at this point, but not shocked.

Prophetic.

Frustrating!!!

Yet another great pitching effort that suddenly fell apart late. But: Fielder stranded two in the bottom of the eighth after they walked Miggy. He's got to come through in that situation (rather than his third K).

Scherzer has actually been fine with the HR this year. His Achilles heel thus far has been stranding runners. His LOB% is pretty miserable (sixth worst in baseball among qualified starters).

Dude.
No doubt. The one guy above reproach on this team right now from an offensive perspective is Cabrera.
Was it not clear I was referring to Fielder coming through?

I was actually disappointed to see Torii move Dirks to second. That set up a clear intentional walk. (If Dirks was still at first, would they have walked Miggy anyway? Hmm.)

I was saying "dude, check Fielder's numbers v. the rest of the league and more specifically after a Cabrera walk."

That's a reading comprehension fail on my part.

I guess I'm inclined to give Fielder a pass as well. He did just HR in each of the three games before last night.

Best Day ever.

I have today off.

My daughter finished her junior year in HS yesterday and is home today.

She asked me to take the day off and help her finish up planting the last of our garden today.

So I get to hang with my daughter, sit in the sun, putter in my garden and guess what?

Get away day afternoon game on the radio.

Life is good.

Peace

Yes, he's been really strong following Cabrera walks. It'd have been helpful if he had come through again yesterday. But ..Cleveland lost, too, so no damage. Lotta games to play yet.

The pitcher formerly known as Fausto Carmona did a Papa Grande reaction after striking out Miggy, which Miggy took exception to.

Seems pretty obvious now that the key guy in the lineup in V-Mart. When V-Mart hits the Tigers score and win. With the four regular players hitting in front of Victor it seems almost impossible not to knock is at least 100.

Everytime Jim Price says "Big Man" I want to punch him in the face. I was driving and heard the first four innnings...after I started counting he said "Big Man' 23 times. And at least 6-7 times before that.

Jim is using "buggy whip" pretty much four times a game now. oof

Still better than either of those TV guys we have, they are horrendous. Thank the baseball Gods for Dan Dickerson.

Actually I kind of like Price when he talks baseball..it is just when he gets stuck on the same lines over and over again that he wears me out. DDs daughter played in the same VB club as my daughter. I used to see him at VB tourneys in the winter all the time a few years back...the guy is the same as he is on the radio and loves talking baseball.

Was at the game today and noticed that Cabrera is really good.
Jeez dood. We went over this. Trout is the clear MVP and flat out best player in the AL if not all of MLB.

Four letters for you

E - S - P - N

Try it sometimes and learn something.

Peace

Ramrod is alright with me, Big Potato not so much. Fastball velocity down and both homers off splitters tonight.

I think we are getting to the point where he is not secure but still no real good options inside the organization outside Benoit. Rondon has been good in Toledo but still walking too many. Villarreal and Al Al also walking too many, our three best bullpen arms have no control. :kicksrock:

Torii Hunter is not longer an elite fielder, dude botches a lot of balls guys like Garcia or Dirks would easily play. We miss AJax both in the order and in the field, need him back. I think Garcia has earned a platoon with Dirks though, to be honest I'd just start him in RF every day and move Hunter to LF. Have Dirks as the #4 OFer. I'm sweet on Garcia though, so take it FWIW.

I have not added Buggy whip or Big man...cant understand why I missed them.

thanks guys.

But I do love listening to them on the radio. The way baseball was meant to be if you were not actually there. I am truly blessed to only have had a few down years that weren't that bad at all that transitioned Ernie to DD.

peace
