***Officialish Detroit Tigers Thread*** (2 Viewers)

Let's hope the pitching arms hold up - 5 games in 4 days ...and that after having to tap the bullpen quite hard over the past week. If needed, maybe Iglesius can pitch an inning using that sidearm flip of his.

So who gets the start tomorrow night? Mario and Rod had conflicting info on yesterday's broadcast, with Mario thinking it was going to be someone from Toledo and Rod thought it would be someone from the pen (possibly Bonderman).

It was reported that Prince Fielder is in the middle of a divorce from his wife right now. Torii Hunter said last wek that Prince had some off-field issues that could be affecting his play.

At least his wife waited until he signed his mega-deal.

Pitchers: (KAN) James Shields ® (DET) Justin Verlander ®

Pitchers: (KAN) Danny Duffy (L) (DET) Jose Alvarez (L)
Looks like they are calling up Alvarez again.

Makes sense. If needed, they could bring in Bonderman or Smyly for a middle stretch of innings. I sure hope the team gets their mojo back now that this series actually, you know, means something.

Too bad about Prince. Wonder what caused the problems. Is she jealous because Prince, like each of us, is in love with Miggy?

Picked the wrong day to go to both games.

The best thing about the day was the weather..could not have been better to watch baseball. The area around Comerica was buzzing. Went with my buddy to the first game and sat behind home plate for the first time in a long time. The seats I get are outfield box between first and the foul pole so this was a treat to get to watch Verlander from the batters view. Of course little did I know that I may be watching a no-hitter tossed against the Kitties. Only good part of the game were a couple of fielding gems by Iglesius..dam he is smooth. The Tigers have never had a SS like him. Hope he can hit a little because they are missing Jhonnys bat.

Not sure how long they can keep trotting Miggy out there..just watching him up close he looks like he is in agony, and he does not even try to run hard anymore..he just can`t. Dont know what it looked like on TV but from behind the plate it looks like Fielder will swing at anything.

Met my wife at Nemos between games..a side note. There is a nice little place that opened right across the street from Nemos on the same side of Michigan. Had a drink there and the pizza looked really good.

Went to Elwood to meet some friends and back to Comerica. Between the beers and the boredom of watching the lifeless Tigers I imploded around the 6th inning of the second game and said to my wife "Lets GTH out of here..I was exhausted from drinking since noon and a total of 5 hits and no runs were not cutting it. Too long of a day. Listened to the rest of the game on the way home..did not miss anything.

The Royals scare me way more than the Tribe...any time they get on base they are running and their pitching is good. The OF runs down everything.

Oh you need a home run in the 9th? No problem. The guy is money. Unbelievable the clutch hitting he is doing as banged up as he is.

best player.........ever?
Arguably one of the best hitters ever for the combo of average and power. Not a stat guru but I am sure that DD could dig something up.

Plus being able to keep the BA at 360+ while not being able to run is incredible.

Man we are lucky to have a front row seat for Cabrera. Amazing.

Now 39 for 79 with 13 HRs when putting the first pitch in play.

Ties Dimaggio with 361 HRs - 77th all-time (11 seasons, age 30  )

Oh, and congrats to Scherzer on #18!

eta more stuff from the game recap:

The reigning Triple Crown winner became the third player since 1921 to have at least 40 homers and 120 RBIs while batting .350 or better through 116 games, joining Babe Ruth and Jimmie Foxx , according to STATS.

Scherzer (18-1) gave up two runs on five hits over eight innings. Scherzer and Roger Clemens are the pitchers since 1919 to have 18 wins in their first 19 decisions, STATS said. Clemens did it with the New York Yankees in 2001, when he finished 20-3.

18-1 is pretty silly.
It helps he leads the majors in run support at 6.04. But he is the only American League pitcher with a WHIP under 1 (0.90). Easily the front runner for Cy Young. Maybe Felix Hernadez will push him. Probably one of the top contenders for MVP also, but Cabrera has been ridiculous lately. Probably Cabrera, Davis, Trout, and Max right now.

Jose Iglesias makes plays every night that Peralta would never make. I think Boston is going to regret giving this guy up. Boston made out OK in the trade, but Iglesias is something special.

Red Sox have Xander Bogaerts, who is a top five prospect they are calling up today. They'll be ok.

I heard an interview with Max and he did give credit to the tremendous run support he has received this season. Saying it it much easier to pitch when you are winning than down 1-2 runs. Said when he was losing games he would overthow for Ks, when winning he said just concentrate on throwing stikes. That is why his pitch count is down quite a bit from last seasin heading in the the 5-6-7th inning.

Jim Price said "The Art of Pitching" at least 15 times yesterday. Have not heard many "buggy whips" as of late.

Makes sense about pitching in the lead. I don't think Max will steal a lot of MVP votes. He's winning a lot of games because of the offensive support, so voters might not feel he's the one creating value to the team. Max has a serious shot at Cy Young ..but throw Darvish in the mix, too, given a number of dominating games (even if they are against Houston).

Miggy should be ahead of Davis in MVP due to BA if nothing else. Hard to imagine a guy threatening triple crown for a second straight year and getting beaten out for MVP by someone with equal or lesser stats.

The last quarter of the season should help sort this out ...these individual battles will likely be more fun to follow than the team results since the Tigers have opened a near-commanding lead, especially if the team is sitting strong after the upcoming A's-Indians-Red Sox sequence.

"Dealing from strength" is an underrated saying.

Tigers had two young RH outfielders and Red Sox had two young shortstops. Perfect trade for both.

Trading from strength is one thing, dealing a player with elite talent is something else. Time will tell, but Iglesias will have to really stink things up at the plate not to be an all-star.

Porcello for one has to thank God everytime he goes out with Iglesias out there. With Cabrera and Peralta on the left side, there was a large gapping hole there.

I thought Peralta was doing a nice job at SS until I saw Iggy out there. Peralta was solid on anything hit right at at him. Iggy literally takes hits away almost every game.

I only saw Peralta a few times live and was very disappointed. At least 5 balls which were playable he made zero effort on. he has great hands, but zero desire to get dirty.

#1 in baseball at SS fielding percentage.

But there are SS who have a hundred more assists than Peralta. Give Iggy a full season, he may make more errors, but he will have made 200 more plays.

Roger Dorn.

Another thing that makes Jose better than Jhonny is that he can eat clam chowder without getting sick.
Besides if the Tigers do win the WS all you will here from sux fans is how the Tigers cheated. Peralta is not coming back and I think the Tigers are a better team with Iggy anyways. But Peralta is still one of the better SS in the league, but Iggy's defense is that good.
