Confidence in Benoit at a low point heading into the playoffs.
Agreed ...it's a major concern, I'd say.

Then again, if we keep stacking our five starting pitchers, we might not need the bullpen.
Meh, Benoit is fine. I think I'd like using Fister as a bridge though, start Porcello in game 4. They won't do that but it would be interesting. Porcello should be the first guy in for the 6th or 7th though, use Smyly, Al Al and Veras in 7th and 8th based on matchups.

Still think we see Max, JV, Anibal and Fister. I think they match up well with A's but I think it's less so than a year ago, and with Cabrera gimpy someone else is really going to have to carry them. That guy is Fielder.

I'll be in Michigan for series, iffy whether I go to one or not.

Maybe i am very drunk from the Lions Kool Aid, but what it is not to love about JV right now. he is a guy who has been here before, who has peaked in June and then realized that you use the 101 pitch when you already have them baffled by your stuff. Cruise through the summer and get ready to go when it is go time. October.

JV will win his start against the A's. Mark it down.

Bless you Boys.

lets do this

peace

Really looking forward to see how well the pitchers perform now. Add in a full line-up, and this could be/should be fun ..especially if Miggy turns the switch back on.

Chicago Trib this morning had power rankings for the playoffs and put Detroit on top ...comparing them to the Miami Heat - built for the playoffs, and ready to turn it up a notch when the playoffs arrived.

Scherzer, Verlander, Sanchez, Fister. I would have gone JV, Sanchez, Scherzer. Scherzer deserves the home start so the fans can give him the proper thank you prior to getting swept by the A's.

Funny because ESPN said Verlander just before I posted that and I thought that was the right choice. Starting Sanchez who is much better in Detroit in game R was the right call.

I like JV and Max on the road with JV-day, Max-night, however it gets set up. Then, yes, Sanchez at home is a solid game 3.

Porcello for long relief if one of the guys is "off?" Smyly should be a good bridge to the 8th and 9th.

You have to give Max the chance to pitch two games in a 5 game series...

You skimmed the part were I said swept...

Well the #2 SB team is out, that's a good thing I guess. Unfortunately Boston/Cleveland are both pretty high on the list too. Detroit of course is dead last with the Cards #2 from the bottom.
Why would the Tigers attempt to steal bases with Cabrera/Fielder/Martinez in the middle of the lineup. Austin Jackson is in scoring position on 1B with Cabrera up. Why risk getting thrown out?
I'm actually more concerned us about holding the runners when the other team is batting. A weakness that might count in a close low scoring game.

I'm sure Earl Weaver's ghost says just hit 3 run homers & strike out the other team, both still very possible with this roster.

They were talking about this last night on the MLB Network and I have noticed this year more and more outfielders sliding to try and catch the ball instead of running through the catch. Last night Upton slid and missed the ball by 4 feet..had he stayed on his feet it was have been a catch.

More OFs should watch Tori Hunter..Hunter rarely slides but runs through the ball when making a running catch.

Max!!!

Good thing they won. After Torii's attempt at second base and VMart being sent home, I'd have been royally ticked if they blew the game after the chances they had. Why send VMart? One more run wouldn't mean much. But bases loaded, one out, and good bats creates the potential for a big inning, which could have put the game away. Easy to second guess ...

JV against a rookie tonight. Sanchez on deck.

I really like their chances in game 3...

VMart was the only guy who had good swings every time up, Cabrera doesn't look like himself at all.

I've been waiting for tonight's game since about June went JV started to drift south. I say that because I'm wondering what we get tonight, I just don't really know.

No schtick today. I like JV today and I think we will know in the first inning, either he gives up 2 or gets out in 3 batters.

peace

1:07 start on Monday!! Will be at Nemos early.

Going to the game with my wife and thought for sure it was going to be an 8:35 start and an after midnight finish.

DD...Cabrera is not right at all..in fact it looked like he re-aggravated his injury with his body language.

10/5 at Oak
(Gray - R)
0-0

A. Jackson, CF
T. Hunter, RF
M. Cabrera, 3B
P. Fielder, 1B
V. Martinez, DH
A. Avila, C
O. Infante, 2B
D. Kelly, LF
J. Iglesias, SS
J. Verlander, SP

Looks like Jimmy saw enough of Dirks last night.

I saw that JV has something like a 2.26 ERA his last six games.

Oakland's Gray, called up in August, has only faced a couple of top offenses (and did poorly against Baltimore). He's tough on rightys; not so much lefties. We could have a nice murderer's row in the middle of the lineup tonight.

why not flipflop omar & AA?

Dirks is a 4A player, stinks
Probably because AA has been hitting well lately.
.953 OPS in September and October.

In all honesty he is having the best plate appearances of any Tiger right now, they are really hard to watch at the plate.

Well, that impressive tonight. Glad to see 2013 JV channeling 2011 JV.

Fielder is a pylon at 1B.

The pitching has been great..but 17 scoreless inning is a row. A-Jax is just not a proto-type leadoff hitter.

Was watching a little of the game this morning..when I froze the frame is looked like Cabrera has a good gash on the palm of his hand from the spike of Moss. Just what he needs right now.

True and true. More second guessing: If you've got Porcello, a starting pitcher, ready to go in a scoreless 9th (which could last a while, if the A's don't score), why not bring him in to start the 9th? It's not like ya need to save him for a short stint. Although looking back, Al Al had not given up a run in his last nine appearances back through early September.

We got a win in Oakland, and that was a primary goal.

The primary goal is to win the series. On the plus side, it seems Justin is back into form. But being shutout like that is disturbing. Miggy not being 100 percent is painful. We need some other bats to step up bigtime.

Outside of Nemos at 11:05 having a beer with some friends...a pretty dismal, cold and crappy day right now with some misting. My wife wants me to sell our tickets and watch the game at a bar down here. Probably could make a 100 or so profit if I dumped them. I knew it was a mistake taking her..she is not gritty enough for this kind of day.

Sun is out..she is back onboard. Plus we have a bunch of friends down here and I can get hammered now and not worry about driving home.

A couple of things from the game today.

1. The crowd was dead right from the start..no energy at all. It was obvious from the start that Sanchez did not have his good stuff..nothing looked real sharp. I really thought they may go to Porcello early.

2. Did Jacksons ABs looks as bad on tV as they did sitting in the stands. I was just past 1B in the lower box and he looked horrible. Right now I would bat Infante in the leadoff spot just to try and shake things up a bit. Jackson is just not getting it done..I know nobody is but your leadoff man need better ABs that what Jackson is giving them.

3. Where is the power?? No HRs in 7 games..no gappers..nothing really close. Only have scored in 2 out of 27 innings?

4. Balfour is a major league dooshbag...I could hear him yelling from where I was sitting, not sure what he was saying but WTH is he doing being up 6-3 and pulling that crap?.

5. Miggy- We will not see the real Miggy the rest of this season regardless of how long it goes. In between pitches even in the field he looks like he is in constant distress and he can hardly make it to first running. I respect the hell out of him for getting out there everyday but he is really in pain.
