Cabrera was throwing up during Monday's game, but still managed to play all nine innings. The Tigers have a scheduled day off Tuesday, so hopefully they'll have enough time to recuperate before Wednesday night

I don't think I've ever had better seats for a MLB game than I do tomorrow night. 19 rows up behind home plate behind the lefthanded batter's box.

Verlander looks pretty good tonight besides the two Lee at bats. I was #####ing about Avila before the double and got two texts saying how bad he was before he doubled. Good night for him so far.

I've sat around there in Pittsburgh and Milwaukee. They're great seats.

Yeah I got these on the day they released tickets to the public and they are isle seats too! I think Detroit has enough season ticket holders for this to be impossible because I've tried minutes after they open and pick weekday games, and the best I ever get are around the dugout up 20+rows. I have two club seats row four behind home and some infield box seats for the next time the Tigers come to Baltimore. This is as close as I've lived to a MLB park since I was in junior high, and I'm within 40 miles of two now (closer to Nats than Orioles). :banned: Avila has five RBIs tonight, that's a month's worth for him.
 
I was pissed at Leyland for using Brad Thomas in the 7th until I found out Ryan Perry is on the DL with ball cancer. That middle relief is awful though, that really is not comforting. The 9k fans in Baltimore (2k tigers fans) loved the game though, I had a few drinks. :banned:

 
Tigers' defense is frustrating to watch. Except for Jackson and Inge, zero ability to make above-average plays. Raburn lets yet another run score that should have been an easy out, Peralta is good at coming close to ground balls more than a few feet away from him but letting them scoot by, and the ball pops out of Martinez's glove every other pitch which isn't helping Coke at all.

At least Ordonez isn't out there. At this point he's gotta be in the running for worst outfielder in baseball.

 
44,799 — Attendance for Detroit's season home opener. It was the third largest opening day crowd in Comerica Park history and fourth largest since the park opened in 2000. Good to see with the job market as it is in detroit

Verlander pitched pretty well. I think that 81-81 would be a very good record for the way this team is put together.

Because unlike Peralta, Inge at least has a head for the game and plays his heart out everyday. He's just not that good. Peralta doesn't know what effort is, he keeps getting contracts because his end game numbers look alright enough but on the field he is just an awful ball player.

Because unlike Peralta, Inge at least has a head for the game and plays his heart out everyday. He's just not that good. Peralta doesn't know what effort is, he keeps getting contracts because his end game numbers look alright enough but on the field he is just an awful ball player.

Not the 'decent on paper but doesn't pass the eye test' bullocks. Peralta is a mediocre hitting, mediocre defending shortstep. And that's the extent of what we know about the guy. To pretend that by watching him on the field you somehow have an idea of how much heart he has is silly. He is what he is. Just like Inge. One isn't better than the other because he appears to try harder.
 
Does Valverde always do that weird little skip off the mound dance after he strikes out a guy? Barton goes down looking and Valverde started dancing around the mound. I wasn't sure if he hurt himself but he appears to be fine.

ETA He did it again. :lmao: I wish he pitched in the NL so somebody could bean him.

He did it with Houston also. When you are a closer no one ever has a chance to bean you. Why would a closer ever bat?

The Tigers CF took extra batting practice. ... Tigers RHP Ryan Perry, out since April 5 with an infected eye, gave up three hits and two earned runs in 1 1/3 innings with one strikeout in a rehab outing for Triple-A Toledo. He threw 27 pitches, 20 for strikes and left after giving up consecutive one-out singles in the seventh. ... SS Jhonny Peralta also didn't start because of his 1-for-18 record against McCarthy. He pinch-hit in the 10th. ... Bailey (strained right forearm) is set to throw long toss Saturday followed by a side session Sunday. ... Cabrera received a continuance for a routine court date in his DUI and resisting arrest case until June 10. Cabrera requested it and prosecutors agreed. Cabrera -- who didn't need to be in court but only represented by a lawyer -- was arrested Feb. 16 in Ft. Pierce, Fla., and charged with DUI and resisting an officer.

Another nice win last night. Always enjoy these little streaks. And it's especially encouraging to see good starts out of Coke and Porcello over the last couple of days.

Unfortunately, these West Coast games put a serious crimp in my ability to watch the whole thing. Last night, I went to bed in the middle of the 9th as I hate watching late inning losses and I knew that a win would take some extra innings. I didn't have the energy to keep watching. So of course I see the 10th inning final this morning. Would have been nice to watch, but I'm just glad they pulled it out.

Eh, be happy you didn't. I'll take a win just about anyway I can get it but Oakland blew the game last night. Porcello's performance was very encouraging though. Hope to have a healthy Maggs back tonight and Austin to get his head on straight! :popcorn:
 
I wonder if the Tigers wish they would of resigned Damon. With a walk-off homer Thursday and the RBI single Saturday, Damon has five consecutive games with game-winning RBI for the Rays, the most since Anaheim's Troy Glaus did it six times in a row in May 2002. I guess we see if Johnny keeps up the hot streak.

I am pretty sure that this would not matter. The Twins are rolling over for everyone. Game winning RBI against the Twins are like fish in a barrel at this point.
 
Leyland has to drop Jackson in the lineup. The strike outs are getting ridiculous. We need people getting on base before the heart of the lineup gets to the plate and he isn't getting it done right now. Drop him down in the lineup until he (hopefully) figures things out!

 
This team is a horrible offensive team again. I don't know how they will fix it. Certainly switching Rhymes and Sizemore will help. Beyond that, if they keep trotting out a lineup that includes Boesch, Inge, Peralta, Jackson, Avila, etc. everyday - its not going to be pretty.

I agree. It would have been nice if Lloyd was fired in the offseason to see if the 2011 lineup would have a different approach (and better results) with a new hitting coach. If this season goes south (I am not saying it is but just talking about the possibility), Leyland is obviously gone. I've always been a fan of Dombrowski given that he built the team up from the gutter in 2003. However, (and I will probably start sounding like Comer here) he's the one that has left us with the lineup that isn't producing, and didn't make a move to fire Lloyd. So, Dombrowski may get a ticket out of town too. Still early in the season and I like to reserve judgment on the team until Memorial weekend but it's the same old stuff as in prior seasons - lack of plate discipline (Cahill is mowing them down with ease today), not advancing runners with less than two outs, etc. It really gets old and frustrating to watch this team struggle to score runs particularly with a player like Cabrera to build the lineup around. Hopefully Martinez's injured groin doesn't linger either.

Which is precisely why he needs to get dropped in the lineup. I would say bench the guy for a bit but his defense is so good (and valuable since our corner outfielders are so shaky in the field) that we still need him in the lineup. He's looking like Gary Pettis right now though.ETA - Oops thought you were talking about Jackson instead of Rhymes. The fact that Leyland has both 1 and 2 in the lineup today boggles the mind.
