***Officialish Detroit Tigers Thread*** (3 Viewers)

Our leadoff hitter today has a .298 OBP.
Which is precisely why he needs to get dropped in the lineup. I would say bench the guy for a bit but his defense is so good (and valuable since our corner outfielders are so shaky in the field) that we still need him in the lineup. He's looking like Gary Pettis right now though.ETA - Oops thought you were talking about Jackson instead of Rhymes. The fact that Leyland has both 1 and 2 in the lineup today boggles the mind.
I would be for moving Jackson down - or giving Wells some of his starts. Agree on that. And Sizemore has a 1.021 OPS in Toledo.

This team is a horrible offensive team again. I don't know how they will fix it. Certainly switching Rhymes and Sizemore will help. Beyond that, if they keep trotting out a lineup that includes Boesch, Inge, Peralta, Jackson, Avila, etc. everyday - its not going to be pretty.
I don't know how you guys were doing before facing Oakland, but the A's have some great starters. The worst pitcher in Oakland's rotation is Cahill...he had a 3.12 era coming into today's game. The next worst starter is Braden with an era of 3. Could just be running into some great arms.

Offense has been scuffling most of the young season, not a good thing for a team built around offense. The lack of table setters is the primary problem, we didn't have a true #2 hitter to start the season (and still don't) so Jackson's slow start is only magnified. The rest of the lineup would be set if we can find a #2 hitter and Jackson can get on track1 - Jackson2 - ?3 - Boesch/Maggs4 - Miggy5 - Victor6 - Raburn/Boesch7 - Peralta8 - Avila9 - Inge

If only we had a guy like, oh, I don't know, Polanco, maybe, to fill this void.

So the top 3 hitters in the lineup tonight are: Jackson, Rhymes and Kelly. :yucky: Looks like Cabrera will have a lot of baserunners to knock in today. :wall:

Nice road trip. Even with the bats struggling a winning road trip to the west coast is huge.

This team will only go so far. Right now they have too many hitters that make too many unproductive outs. I am not sure that can be fixed for the long term.

Boesch and Cabrera are batting .350 through the first six games of current road trip, with the rest of the team batting only .184.

Tigers really need to take care of Boesch and Cabrera and not let them get hurt, or take any risks on the bases

Raburn is closing in on Inge.
They've always been like that. I actually hate Raburn more than Inge. Raburn is a > hitter than Inge but Inge >>> fielder than Raburn. Raburn's horrible defense drives me crazy. Sometimes the guy can't even pick up ground balls that are hit into left field.

Big series with Sux this weekend, need two of three. Not worried at all about the Tribe, that ####fest will fall from the sky and burn soon enough. Royals could contuinue to be solid and the Twins will be better in the second half, but they aren't getting their usual surge this year. That leaves the sux. Start beating these guys now please.

Agreed...we'll see if they can hang.

Different year, same Leyland. It's old. There really isn't a credible lead off man to replace Jackson but I would suggest moving Boesch up to #1 since he can take a walk, then move Avila up to the #6 hole.

What a frustrating two games in Cleveland so far. We really needed to take this series after getting swept by Seattle. Right now it looks like a sweep is coming too with Coke vs. Masterson in the finale. With NY coming into town for a 4 game series this season is starting to ascend off the cliff already.

Wasted a good pitching effort by Porcello and the bullpen on Saturday. So, at least there were some positives to take away from the game. Classic Tigers in the 13th though. Cabrera leads off with a double and ends up going nowhere. If we didn't have him in our lineup the team would be the worst hitting team in the league by far. It's really frustrating to watch him go to waste like he has. It's nice to see Avila and Boesch hit well. Martinez's return should help as well. Inge is what he is but as long as he bats late in the lineup at 8 or 9 I don't care - his defense more than makes up for his offensive shortcomings. The top of the lineup is so anemic though and to simply keep putting the same guys in the top 3 night after night is complete insanity. Leyland really needs to switch things up and if he doesn't then he really needs to go and I mean right now not after the season (see below) - Lloyd can go with him too. If Dombrowski doesn't fire Leyland then the team really needs to consider looking at him too after this year ends because he is responsible for letting this season languish away by not making any roster moves and having Leyland continue to do the same boneheaded stuff over and over.

I give Cleveland credit on Saturday. They didn't beat themselves and ultimately waited for the Tigers to implode which they did. I am liking Alburquerque though. Kid has some moxy. Schlereth isn't that good - still doesn't throw enough strikes. I wish they would move Coke back to the pen and bring up someone like Andy Oliver or Furbush.

On Friday it was frustrating to watch Leyland do his best Grady Little impression by keeping Max in the game after he visited the mound. I could see the wheels coming off but Jim left him in anyway to give up the HR. Ball game. We had that game under control too and just gave it up late. Frustrating.

I've been patient with Leyland over the years. Never been a fan of his lineups and resting players for later in the season for a post-season run that never came to fruition. Or his famous "since Magglio isn't playing today let's put his replacement Don Kelly in his No. 3 spot in the lineup even though he is not a No. 3 MLB hitter" type moves. I've completely given up on the guy now. I can't stand watching him trot out the same 3 anemic hitters at the top of the lineup each game. I understand he is handcuffed by the talent he has, but how about switching things up and moving Jackson down in the lineup, Rhymes has no business being a No. 2 hitter either (of course there he was batting 2nd on Fri and squandering two chances to knock in runners in scoring position during the game). Magglio is done. One RBI on a fielder's choice all season and is batting .159. The guy shouldn't be hitting 3rd and when V-Mart gets back to DH he shouldn't even sniff the lineup on a regular basis. I don't care if his feelings are hurt - guy is a professional and if he doesn't want to be on the bench he should play better. Also, quit batting Avila 8th. Guy has 18 RBI. Move him ahead of Peralta. I don't see why Leyland doesn't just try something like:

2B - Santiago

LF - Raburn

RF - Boesch

1B - Cabrera

DH - Martinez (Magglio can DH until he gets back but bat him at 7 then and move the rest up)

C - Avila

SS - Peralta

3B - Inge

CF - Jackson

I am not saying this team doesn't have its flaws and that Leyland is messing up a group of all-stars. However, at least give the team a chance to make a run at the AL Central. If he keeps doing what he is with the lineup that's clearly not going to happen. Move Coke to the pen and bring up someone from AAA. Sizemore should be up too - guy deserves a shot and Rhymes' confidence is shot.

End rant. :hot:

Well, it's not all of the lineup changes you wanted, but at least he moved Jackson down to 9th today.

Rhymes

Santiago

Kelly

Swiggy

BB

Rayburn

Avila

Inge

AJ

 Guy is a hack and needs to get the #### out of town. Been saying it since '07 and nothing, not even a title, will change that. He is a detriment to the team. He literally puts the team in a position to lose day in and day out and they win despite him.

ugh...your first three tiger hitters----Rhymes, Santiago and Kelly. Say hello to fourth place and an empty ballpark in august and september.

Terrible, terrible team. Fire the old man now so we can look forward to something, anything. Jackson is lost, and that five hop throw to the plate doesn't endure him to the fans at the moment. Valverde up to 32 pitches now, just leave him in Jim. You won't need him tomorrow or the next day anyway.

 Sizemore up, Rhymes down. Finally. :banned:
Well that is a step in the right direction. Jimmy made the call on Rhymes over Sizemore, more proof I guess. Then again I've stuck my neck out with my hardcore Tigers faithful friends saying Sizemore is the answer, hope I'm right.

What are the odds of this kid batting 2nd?
Leyland feels he has to hit the 2Bman 2nd in the order, so 100%.
Thank God he doesn't feel the same about the 3Bman. Or the 1Bman for that matter. I'll be in row 1 third base line tonight, watch for Inge to keep turning over and looking into the crowd.

Brandon Inge has to pinch himself everyday. Inge has 11 million left on his contract as possible the weakest hitting 3b in the league, and now he looks a step slower in the field.

If Inge was released would he even be claimed??

Dear Mr Ilitch, please don't fire Dombrowski until after the season is over. Make that moron suffer with the rest of us. TIA fans of the Detroit Mudhens
