***Officialish Detroit Tigers Thread*** (2 Viewers)

Well, they have the second biggest division lead in baseball and they are about to be 6.5 up on the White Sux, and at least 8 on the Twins.

They really need to keep this train rolling and win six of seven or eight of ten or something like that. Keep these other teams on their heels and make this a two team race.

Maggs should be hitting 7th vs righties but I don't have issue with him 3rd vs lefties. Raburn starting to hit too, the offense is really starting to round into shape.

Really nice win tonight. Fister was very impressive and kept the Rangers off balance for most of the game. A very efficient 99 pitches in 7 innings. What a huge difference he makes in the rotation.

This was only the 2nd time all year that Valverde has given up a run in a save situation.

I thought Fister was OK, seems like everyone else was a little more impressed than I was. Definately an improvement over what we've had in that spot, I'm sure he appreciated the run support for a change.

As I mentioned yesterday, the Tigers tend to hit into a lot of DP's, I would like to see Leyland be more aggressive with our runners, especially with Texas being the top team in the majors to turn DPs.

Very nice comeback by Benoit tonight. I thought it was hilarious that Coke came in for one batter then Leyland yanked him.

Refreshing to see Raburn get 3 hits tonight, Avilla on a roll with another dinger and Valverde with save No. 30.

After suffering through the likes of Willis and Robertson, Oliver and Coke-as-of-late, I appreciate a new starter who throws strikes and doesn't get hit hard. Fister fits very nicely into this staff. I would like to see one of Kelly or Santiago in the line-up when he pitches because like Porcello he induces so many ground balls. Obviously the defense let him down tonight. He really only gave up one run against the Rangers who are very familiar with him. But another great thing about him is he doesn't nibble so his pitch-counts are in order and he can eat a ton of innings. The less we have to rely on somebody in the 6th or 7th inning the better.

Penny vs Ogando tomorrow so they are probably stuck on beating Texas six times this year.

Penny is due to pitch a good one, and I mean hold a team to 3 runs through 7 innings of work. Tigers have been hitting the ball well, they'll need that to continue to get a win tomorrow.

It would be a great to sweep the Rangers before we head out for a pretty long road trip.

I gave Phil Coke directions to Toledo at last night's game. I even offered to drive him there personally.

This is what it boils down to:7 IP2 ERThat's really all that counts.
That is true, but Fister did not seem to have great stuff and was unable to KO any batters. That being said we picked him up to be our #4 or 5 starter and he should fill that role very well. Much improved over what we were trotting out there. What I do like is how fast he works., makes watching the game much more enjoyable.

Who doesn't love to watch a good Fister?
It is already better than the Washburn trade.
I'm recalling that I met a guy last year who is from Wisconsin. If I remember it right, Washburn has a farm somewhere up in Wisconsin where he's in the business of horse sperm. There's good money in it, apparently.Oh, and today's Tribune news: An on-line poll found that about 85% of respondents have given up hope. The article on their loss last night referenced eight weeks until the end of the season and about seven months until pitchers and catchers report. There's always next year (though Adam Dunn will still be under contract).

At 89 K's in 153 innings pitched, I wouldn't expect him to get many K's. And I don't think the Rangers K a lot as a team.

Love when Leyland throws a game. lovelovelove love it.
Sort of seemed like it. I mean, we had over 1/3 of our starting lineup out for a "rest" while we had Penny and they had their ace. I'm not sure that's giving a soldout crowd their money's worth but w/e.Plus, by the end of the game, they brought in Mags and Peralta, so they rested 6 innings? I don't get it, so they rested the 6 innings are they now refreshed? I totally understand sitting Avilla and even Guillen a lot more than normal but come on.

Where's the best place to get tickets for Tigers games in terms of trying to avoid paying so much for service fees.

I mean, I tried to get two 28 dollar tickets and the next thing you know my total was 69.50. I didn't check out because I think that's bullcrap paying all that extra money for no good reason.

How do you avoid those fees, go down to the stadium itself?

Stubhub.com is where a lot of people trade.

Wait until 2:15 before the game and you can get great seats on StubHub. I sat 7 rows behind the Angels dugout for 35.00 a ticket. They cut off sales 2 hours before the game. I have no idea as to why because there were still a ton of tickets available.

Can we just call him Choke?

Actually he had a better outing this time. He got to throw 4 pitches before getting hit.

That was a big win last night, especially with Cleveland blowing their game. It's also nice to have someone like Valverde to close things out. The guy is money.

Tigers designate Purcey for assignment. But the bottom of this article caught my eye:

Note: Leyland said he's still trying to decide whether to pitch ace Justin Verlander in the series finale against Cleveland a week from Thursday. He could hold him until next day in Baltimore. But if he does that, there's no chance Verlander will face the Indians in Detroit the following weekend.
You have to be ####### kidding me. If he does not keep Verlander on schedule, he will miss Cleveland TWICE. That would be the stupidest thing he could possibly do. :wall:
Update:Link

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Even though the Detroit Tigers have an off-day Monday, Justin Verlander will not get an extra day's rest between his start tonight against Kansas City and his next start.

Instead, the Tigers will skip Brad Penny in the rotation, which will allow Verlander to pitch against the second-place Cleveland Indians in the final game of their three-game series this week in Cleveland.

If the Tigers had stuck to their normal rotation, Verlander would have instead had an extra day's rest and would have started Friday at Baltimore.

The probable pitching matchups for the Tigers-Indians series:

Tuesday: Doug Fister (4-12, 3.29 ERA) vs. Justin Masterson (9-7, 2.63 ERA).

Wednesday: Rick Porcello (11-6, 4.49 ERA) vs. Ubaldo Jimenez (6-9, 4.64 ERA).

Thursday: Verlander (15-5, 2.24 ERA) vs. Fausto Carmona (5-11, 5.31 ERA).
At least he made the right choice. I thought it was ridiculous that this was even a question. It's a no brainer.

Maybe it was a ploy or something. Not even Leyland would do something as dumb as this.

Eight road games with Royals, Indians and O's. Time to put the foot on the gas, a run here goes a long way IMO.
