***Officialish Detroit Tigers Thread*** (1 Viewer)

Holy crap, did you see Raburn attempt that flip to 2nd base?

I would loved to see Leyland yank him right off the field.

He definately had enough time to get that ball to 2nd the tradional way. I don't know if he was thinking DP but that was some crap.

That's like a high school kid going up for a dunk when they only need a layup in a close game and it bangs off the rim.

Scherzer looking real hittable......again.

There you go Jimmy. Your pitcher is over 100 pitches, on the ropes in the 7th, and you're going to try and squeeze one more batter out of him as the Orioles turn the lineup over to the top.

Madd Max was gritty!! Max was still hitting 96 mph on his fastball so he was not out of gas.

Max settled down nicely after giving up 4 earned runs early in the game. He ended up with 10 K's, kudos to that mean Tigers lineup that scored 5 runs in the 6th.

Phil Coke becoming reliable in the bullpen?

I think Coke is now up to three solid outings after having a one pitch and four pitch performance.

Max is garbage
And yet he got the win. Max has been solid. A lot more good outings than bad ones. Great job from the whole team in grabbing a victory. :banned:
He still has an ERA well north of 4 and a WHIP over 1.30. Ugly, ugly numbers for fantasy purposes. I hold on to him because I have to have 5 SPs in my lineup, so he's still rosterable and match-up worthy.Truth be told, he's probably top 5 in baseball when it comes to run support. Only person with a more misleading W-L record is Lackey.

Max was fortunate enough to get thewin but he did pitch well from the 3rd inning on, plus I believe it was his last outing he was jipped from a win by Benoit so this balanced it out.

He's improved on his walks since early in the season but his ERA needs to be worked on.

You didn't mention his strikeouts, he's above average in that department.

While he's still considered above average, and it will go up a tick after tonight, he's at his lowest K/9 in 3 years as a starter. 2009 - 9.22010 - 8.52011 - 7.5 (not counting tonight)

I know Verlander is probably odds on to win the AL Cy Young but honestly, I'd be hard pressed to say who's having a better year between Verlander and Valverde. What's nuts is people still call in on radio shows saying they still don't know if we can trust Valverde to be our closer.

I'd say Valverde is definately top 5 in the Cy Young race, possibly top 2 if he was a Yankee or Red Sox pitcher.

What an unbelievable luxury to have had Valverde as our closer, to not blow a save the entire year so far when we're in a battle for 1st. We've had a lot of 1 run games too that would be easy to give away.

So what? His K/BB ratio is a little better 2.67 to 2.63 so he's giving Ks for better control which has always been an issue. He's far from garbage, and tonight he gave them seven innings. Had he gotten a few of those strkies on the outside of the plate early, he probably would have cruised. That was his best performance of the year tonight IMO, one terrible inning and six really good ones.

Verlander is easily having the better year.195 innings, most of them ar elite. That's 142 more than Valverde, it's not close. Valverde has been extraordinary, especially for a guy who rarely sets teams down 1-2-3 but Verlander is exponentially more valuable IMO.

Eight straight one run game wins, nice. They showed me a lot tonight, never quitting and having a five run inning when the inning started with two straight outs. If Raburn is hot, I say you leave him in during those steaks.

Al Alburqurque was driven back to Detroit today after sustaining a concussion after getting hit by that batting practice hit yesterday. He's on the 7 day concussion DL, Perry called up.

Phil Coke! This is the guy from last year!!!!!

I'm surprised by the sudden call for Valverde to be considered in the Cy Young race. He has been clutch, and considering the way the Tigers are going into every ninth inning up by a run he has been tremendously valuable, but a closer is in no way as important as an elite starting pitcher mowing down a line-up time after time within the same game. The Tigers probably wouldn't be in first place without Verlander or Valverde, but without Verlander the Tigers would be below .500.

Still riding this train huh?Keep us updated on attendance figures please. TIA

May come up for the series next weekend. :boxing:
Congrats on the 30k attendance for Thursday night's game. You must be very proud that your city almost had the stadium 75% full for a pennant race game in August. Do you dispute the 23k figure for Wednesday night? How about the attendance for the Angels series at the end of July when they were in first place?19k, 19k, 21k

That's embarrassing and I can't believe you have the balls to call me out on this. :lmao:
He wasn't disputing anything. Stick to posting about Leyland. Much more interesting.

It's funny how Cleveland fans #### all over everything they get near. Don't go to the stadium, post stuff about being in the rear-view mirror when they have led the division most of the year, and now this fodder. When was the last time you said anything interesting on the internet? 2008? 2009? I certainly can't remember it. :coffee:

Max's seventh inning was his best performance of the year. He got fired up and made some fabulous pitches on the last two strike-outs. Alex also did a great job in that inning when he guided the high heater for the first K and went out to the mound to get on the same page during the Hardy at-bat.

25th in attendence, 22k average per game. Not bad for a team who has been in first place for 96 days.

Agreed. When you're expected to battle the Royals for last place and the community as a whole hates the ownership, that sounds about right. On a lessor scale, this city lives and breathes Browns and there is still a LeBoob hangover to many. But then again, you do know everything, so maybe I'm wrong and your sarcasm is spot on.

I do know a lot, thanks for noticing gb. :ptts: on it being a Browns town, but NE Ohio is a good hotbed for football. All cities have pecking orders, I would think the Injuns would be 2nd and people would flock to see a good product...which the Indians are. Everyone sympathizes with the Lebron thing, even Detroit fans.

Well, when the Lions, Tigers, Wings, or Pistons put out a contender, Detroit supports them. The Indians were a great story for the first third of the season, and should be getting better support. They are still in the heart of the race. Shoot, the best medicine to get over LeBron is a winning Baseball team. Cleveland does a good job supporting the Browns through thick and thin, but it has been a weak showing for the Indians considering the year they are having.

Go Fister! I hope he can emerge as the #3 guy. I really don't like the direction Penny is going and I don't trust Porcello.

Headed for the park soon. Rolling t-storms all over here this afternoon which sucks for Fister. Hopefully the rain stays away for awhile and the starters can get through some innings. Hopefully the Tigers can light up Jo Jo Reyes early.

Looking back at the sellout streak it's pretty clear what this city can/will do for a baseball team. I think there are just some factors you guys are downplaying and some more that haven't even been mentioned. Bout to head down now...probably to get washed away. Expecting another nice crowd today.

Al Alburqurque was driven back to Detroit today after sustaining a concussion after getting hit by that batting practice hit yesterday. He's on the 7 day concussion DL, Perry called up.
Chicago Tribune runs a side-bar stat for each team as it lists the daily standings. Today was K/9 innings ...and Alburquerque leads the AL (something like 13.84K/9 innnings). I did not know that.

Fister looks like trash. They had a three pack Tigers trivia at the gate. I answered all before the guy finished his sentence and got the bonus question also. He was surprised, but they were easy.

All HOFers was the hint:

All time AL hits leader, called the Georgia...

Is from Baltimore and was considered...

First Jewish Player...

Last 30 game winner...

Easy.

Convienient for fishing since the Cats are drawing more.Maybe television ratings should be checked out next?

Fister has looked god-awful since the Texas game. Pauley can't get anybody out either. So far they both look about as good as Washburn. I was hoping this would finally be the year a player acquired at the deadline played like he did before coming here.

Considering the way things are going, I would consider giving Alburqurque a shot at starting. Considering the others, it can't hurt. At least start using him a bit more in relief when he comes back. He seems to be performing well in his limited action. His biggest problem is he really only has a couple of pitches.

Furbush was lit up in his previous start.

Fister does not look good but I said that here even after his first start for us.

After that catch by Dirks on a hit by Hardy, you'd think he'd be careful and then Markasis takes him deep next batter. I was like you have to be kidding me.

Very disappointed in the Pauley and Fister trades. They've done more harm than good.

I'm also disappointed so far, but I don't think it's fair to criticize this trade after the fact. Most thought the deal would help the team fill two big holes and the Tigers didn't give up any major prospects. Hopefully Fister will turn it around and fare better at Comerica.

Is Your 66 Year Old Manager Smarter Than A 6 Year Old?

Per The Detroit News:

Leyland broke the news Saturday to the 6-year-old who gave him lineup advice at the team hotel: Thanks, but he wasn't going to hit Jhonny Peralta third.

"I gave her the thumbs down on her lineup," he said.

Why let a player with .309/16/62 bat third when you can let one with .223/4/23 hit 3rd. I think almost any other player in their lineup deserves to bat 3rd over Ordonez. He simply is not getting the job done.

I like the addition of Delmon Young. Not much at the plate, but has a pllus arm in the outfield. Curious to know what his contract is after this year. Say goodbye to Maggs?
