####in hate him. Ive held onto him all year and even in games he pitches well he cant even get out of the fifth. Hes gonna cost me my 1st rd playoff game
No matter what Dr D likes to think, the kid just ain't a #2 yet. He has the stuff to be, it's just not there yet.Long story short, he's the poster child for why the White Sox rotation > Tigers rotation.
Wow you're becoming incredibly annoying. Can't let it go can you?

Scherzer has been good to very good in his last nine starts before tonight:

5-4

57.2 IP

2.97 ERA

.237 BAA

46 K

10 BB

The start in Baltimore where he gave up five runs then went seven to get the win was his turning point...I thought. The guy is just a mess when he can't locate though and he had a good slider and 96 mph 4 seamer tonight. But Avila was throwing the glove up on the outer part of the plate, and he was throwing belt high fastballs on the inner part of the plate.

He's had 17 starts where he's given up two runs or less and six starts where he's given up six runs or more. He's got #2 stuff and he's shown his ability to bring it when it counts but there are still too many of these nights making him hard to gage. Good Max Scherzer is pretty good, bad Max Scherzer is really bad.

Fister seems to like Tiger stadium.

I really don't care about lefty-righty matchups, Betemit and Boesch should be in the lineup most every night.

Detroit has to be the only team in the majors with 4 regular players hitter over .300 and none of the bat in the first three spots. Instead we choose to lead off with a .240 a, .270 and a .220 hitter.

For what he gave up for him I hated the deal. What has Fister done his last 2 starts? He got bombed his last outing and before the rain washed the Game before that, I think he gave up 2 runs in 2 innings pitched. So far it's been a terrible move, but we will see over the next 6 weeks.
Any other players you want to jump to hasty conclusions on?

Tigers needed that win....the Sox and Indians are making a mini run. Need to keep some distance in the standings going into the series with them. Would like to have this wrapped up prior to the final week of the season.

I'd prefer that he just hates the whole team, that would push them into the playoffs quicker.

NEW RULE: Thanks to a rule that was changed this year, the Tigers don't have to call up Santos by today to have him eligible for the playoffs. It's important that Santos be playoff-eligible because of the uncertainty over when Martinez will catch again this season.

In the past, a few technicalities aside, Santos would have needed to be in the big leagues by today to be playoff-eligible. Now, under the new rule, he can remain in the minors through today, then be put on the playoff roster as a replacement for one of the two Tigers pitchers on the 60-day disabled list, Joel Zumaya and Brad Thomas.

Outfielder Andy Dirks, who's in the minors now but who has spent much of the season in the majors, could be placed on the playoff roster in the same fashion.
This gives the Tigers quite a bit of flexibility. They also have Albuquerque on the concussion DL and can add him too.

Fister might very well be our second best starter right now. I would be more comfortable with him starting a playoff game than Porcello and possibly even Scherzer. But Fister has been jeckle and hyde depending whether he is home or away.

Huge win. Tigers can still hit about 87 wins with .500 play, and the others need to be in the .667 range to match. But a loss last night would have made everyone feel differently, especially with the Sux coming up this weekend. Fister, Coke, Benoit ..Mags, Santiago. Wow x 5.

Nope, he looks pretty good right now. This is what I was hoping he would look like.

Yet you didn't hesitate to hammer on the trade a week into it. You search for things to bag on the team for. Worst kind of fan.

:lmao:

You know how Tigers fans constantly complain about batting orders?

Today's White Sox clean-up hitter: Alex Rios .214/.253/.319

But Detroit has four regular players hitting over .300 and a couple others guys close. The white sox only have 4 regular players hitting over .250. I still wouldn't bat Rios 4th, but I assume they are resting someone. Detroit's lineup is loaded with good hitters, it is just puzzling why guys who aren't getting the job done batting near the top of the order.

I don't disagree. I think Leyland's order is pretty terrible but also recognize that it has a rather small impact on game outcomes. But I think there is a lack of perspective on a lot of these issues. I'm no fan of Leyland, but unfortunately there aren't many modern type of managers out there that would really operate all that different from Jimmy.

White Sox fans are apoplectic right now.

Peavy, highest paid player on the team, gives up 6 runs in the first.

Dunn, 4th highest paid player, pinch hits in the ninth for Lillibridge who is better in every way this year (and also has a HR on the day and is 1 for 1 career against Nathan with a HR), only to strike out as the tying run

Rios, 3rd highest paid player, and even worse than Dunn this year, and batting cleanup, strikes out to end the game on three pitches

anyone else have to look this word up? spot on, though.

Yeah, but when Mags grounds into a bases-loaded inning-ending double-play with your best hitters coming it, it does impact the game outcome. Mags in the third spot was horrible and in the second spot is not much better. If Mags and Inge play, they need to be at the bottom of the order. There is a reason why the Tigers are one of the worst-scoring first inning teams in the majors.

I would like to see Miggy 3# Avila, Young and BB could be swapped back and forth.

1. Jackson

2. Peralta

3. Cabrera

4. V-Mart

5. Avila

6. Young

7. BB or Maggs

8. Betemit

9. Santiago

When Ingle plays put him 9 or DH a pitcher for him.

 Let's hope that is the 100th new lineup which Leyland tries. Can't believe Leyland has tried 99 lineups, and none of them made as much sense as this one.

...looking forward to reading the Chicago Trib tomorrow morning. Another sweet win for the Tigers!! Now if Oakland can pull out an extra-inning win over the Indians ...

DETROIT -- The calendar turned to September on Thursday, and the Tigers wasted little time taking advantage of the expanded roster opportunity.

Right-hander Jacob Turner, Detroit’s top prospect, will make a spot start in the rotation today – the second start of his career. He is expected to remain with the club following Thursday’s start.

The Tigers promoted infielder Will Rhymes, outfielder Andy Dirks and right-hander Luis Marte for the first day of expanded rosters. Second baseman Carlos Guillen was activated from the disabled list Thursday and rejoined the Tigers, too.

Turner, 20, made his first start July 30 and allowed two runs over 5 1/3 innings in a 5-1 loss to Los Angeles. Marte made the jump from Double-A Erie and will pitch out of the bullpen. He has allowed just 29 hits while striking out 68 in 53 innings pitched for Erie this season. He has a 3-0 record and a 1.70 ERA in 23 games for Erie.

Other September callus will likely take place after Triple-A Toledo's regular season concludes Monday. Manager Jim Leyland acknowledged Thursday that a catcher, presumably Omir Santos, will be recalled when he is eligible to return.

Santos was optioned to Toledo last week -- a day after being called up from Triple-A last Thursday. A player must remain on optional assignment for 14 days, unless replacing an injured player. Infielder Danny Worth, who was optioned to Triple-A Toledo on Saturday, falls under such a rule and is expected to be recalled early next week, too.

Just seems logical.

I love the batting lineup tool.

Based on YTD numbers, today's lineup is worth 4.586 runs.

Jackson

Ordonez

Young

Cabrera

Martinez

Avila

Peralta

Raburn

Inge

The ideal lineup (which no one ever agrees with) is worth 4.900.

Cabrera

Avila

Jackson

Peralta

Martinez

Raburn

Young

Inge

Ordonez

So if KC scores 4.75 runs today, I am going to be pissed.

Might as well bat him first, he leads off the 2nd most of the time anyways.

Mags had his best day of the year. 3 RBI's...

Would be great if we could get some production out of him. Probably just a tease though so Leyland will keep him in the 2 or 3 spot.

You could tell from the first batter that Coke had nothing today.

:lmao: So OK - loss for Cleveland as well, and the Sox are off today. We get to 87-88 wins, we'll be fine.
