Ok, little diatribe here....
I don't care what the Tigers do between now and next Wednesday as long as they are still playing hard. If they go 3-3 and the Rangers go 4-2, so be it. I don't think we want to play anyone in particular, I think we just want someone to not want to play us. That team isn't Boston IMO, I think they have something to prove and I really do believe they have the best line-up in baseball. Beckett is gonna deal, Lester is pretty damn good and the rest are not much worse than the Tigers can offer. No disrespect to the Yankees or Rangers either, but the Tigers would be underdogs against both and both have a bit to protect as defending AL champs and $210 million Goliath.
Sure it would be nice to see the first two games in Detroit on a Friday and Saturday no less, but I'm not wishing for anything. I think the Yankees or Rangers are slightly better match-ups for the Tigers even if the Red Sux look the worst right now. All four teams can hit, but the team that pitches the best wins the AL and I think the Tigers can be that team. But they need to either split on the road or sweep at home to get through IMO, and I like my chances to split better on the road. May sound crazy, but I think it's true in a five game series. Now Boston in a seven game series? Yeah I like that a little better.
But people saying the Tigers would roll the Red Sux (especially Tigers fans who two months ago were calling for the GM and Manager's ouster) are a bit off the mark IMO. They still have two very good starters and they have a seriously ridiculous line-up that can ruin the best pitching outing in a matter of minutes. I think with the Rangers you can pitch carefully to guys (like the Tigers) and the Yankees you can hope for a bad stretch. The 275 foot fence in Yankee Stadium gives me pause however, but they have to pitch to it also.
[*]Peralta looks pretty bad the past few weeks, expect a nice ALDS from him.
[*]Turner is 20 years old but he looks like he's in command out there. Two bad pitches tonight, the Adam Jones shot was a missle
[*]I miss Brennen Boesch, I really wish he was out in RF. He was sitting right next to Justin tonight though, they must be BFFs.
[*]VMART sliding into first base to try to beat out a duble play ball in a game like this, solidifies him as my second favorite Tiger. He's dreamy.
[*]Raburn is still a disaster in the field, regardless of where you put him.
[*]They need to rest Avila at least one more game, maybe two before the playoffs.
