No Inge!!!!!
No chance Cabrera is playing 3B. He's too fat
who cares, when your gonna be scoring 10 runs a game, no need for defense, unless its hit right at ya, your not gonna get it at 3rd anyway
This is so wrong on so many levels.
whaaaaaaaaa!!!!!who cares!!!!!

162 and 0 coming up pal!!!!

@DKnobler DKnobler Expect the Tigers to play Prince every day at 1B, and to move Cabrera to 3B. And don't be surprised if he's better there than you think.

FWIW

Have to like the fact that in six full season Prince has 157,158,159,162,161,162 games played. Shows up everyday.

Heard on The Ticket that Miggy had to give his OK before the deal was completed.

What a terrible deal for the Tigers you guys suck and I hate you all and I hate baseball.

Just when I thought the Twins might have a chance.

He also confirmed that he will be playing 3rd base. Link

DETROIT -- First baseman Miguel Cabrera shouldn’t be too shocked upon learning Tuesday that the Detroit Tigers signed first baseman Prince Fielder. It had apparently been discussed for nearly a week.

"It was something we were talking about during the fan fest,” Cabrera told a Venezuelan newspaper Lider en Deporte late Tuesday.

The club’s annual Winter Caravan Tour made its rounds Thursday and Friday.

Cabrera confirmed the addition of Fielder will result in him shifting to third base in 2012 -- a position he last played in 2008.

“Return to third base,” Cabrera told the Lider's César Augusto Márque, “that is my natural position.”

The Tigers reportedly approached Cabrera about Fielder prior to the deal to gauge his interest in shifting to third and Cabrera expressed no hesitation.

Cabrera has played 383 of his 1,351 career games at third, including 157 games there in 2006, and 153 games in 2007, as a member of the Florida Marlins.

The addition of Fielder could result in less playing time for third baseman Brandon Inge, who was expected to platoon at third base with utilityman Don Kelly.

As a result, the Tigers might operate a rotation at first and third base, which would likely include Inge, Kelly and Cabrera all playing third.

The Detroit Tigers stunned the baseball world Tuesday by reaching agreement with Prince Fielder on a nine-year, $214 million contract, the fourth-largest deal in baseball history.

gota a feeling beer and peanuts will be going up in price at home games. Great player, but 9 years at 214m WOW

The Tigers were supposed to score 10 runs per game in 2008 and it didn't exactly work out that way. Will be an interesting Spring Training to see how they figure out what Cabrera can do in the field. I just bought tickets for 3 ST games so I can't wait. It still wouldn't surprise me if Delmon Young gets dealt for someone who is a legit leadoff hitter.

I really did not see this coming. Damn, just think if VMart was still around. Would have been the most feared lineup in baseball.

Peter Gammons agrees with Doctor Detroit, we'll probably see Cabrera in LF. He can play 3B because most people don't understand that the guy is a tremendous fielder with soft hands and good reflexes but his range is gonna kill us there.

And no one can hate this deal. The Tigers didn't sell their farm system, the owner is worth $30 billion and he'll get his $214 million back if Fielder helps the Tigers win a championship and Fielder is already loved in Detroit. to that end Fielder is now the face of the franchise. Not Verlander, not Cabrera but Fielder. Why? Because he's a character, the camera loves him and he loves it right back and he's said to be one of the hardest working guys in the game which Detroit loves. Cabrera is awkward with the media, has had personal issues and just isn't as gregarious as Fielder. Now we won't love Cabrera any less, but I think the young fans especially will love Fielder more. Verlander is serious business, we won't love him any less either but again...Fielder is going to be the biggest draw.

So for the next four years or so the team is built to compete for a title with young power arms, two of the five best hitters in baseball and great support guys everywhere. For Ilitch the time is now and I guarantee you he spoke to his daughter and sons about this deal because Mike might not see the end of this deal. Tigers can keep Fielder for the length of the deal even as Fielder's skills erode and transition to the next era five years from now. By the time we get to 2017 this deal won't be a monster contract, it'll just be a really big one with four years remaining. So you compete now and worry about everything else later while raking in huge profits from Fielder's presence and hopefully at least one World Championship. Haters gonna hate, but this is a franchise deal done by an owner who knows he needs to win right now. I love it, Ilitch is the best owner in Detroit sports history IMO and one of the best in all of sports right now. Dombrowski probably saw the opportunity and he continues to impress turning this horrible franchise into a serious contender and player in all free agent transactions.

I ####### love it!

He will most definitely be the face of the team. My 7 year old son asked me to print out the story so he could talk about it tomorrow for current events in school. I guarantee you the kid is psyched. You're spot on with Fielder....He's big, almost cartoonish, he can hit the ball an f'ing mile, and he's got a million dollar smile too. Verlander is all business and not kid friendly. Miggy is one of the greatest hitters I've ever seen but I don't really want his ilk as a role model for my kid. Fielder is a big kid playing a kid's game, and he at least seems like a genuinely nice guy. Kids adore him. I'm so excited for this move for so many reasons. We live on the Lake Michigan shore area so it's about 3 hours to get to Comerica for us. But I think we'll be going more this year than we have in the past. My son will be begging me.I love me some Ilitch too. First the Red Wings and he is all in to win with the Tigers. How do you not love that? Any one hating is actually jealous if they're a fan of a different team. Truth is they wish their owner would have done it. Like I stated somewhere else, I know what it's like to be a Yankee fan today, and have a newfound respect for George Steinbrenner. Ilitch doesn't just want to collect the cash from the hard working folks who fill Comerica every summer, he wants to win. I respect the hell out of him for that.Incredible day.....April?.......CAN'T WAIT!

When I first saw this deal I thought it didn't make any sense whatsoever (both the contract terms and the fact that DET already has VMart/Miggy) but I guess this helps put it in perspective. Congrats

I'm freaking pumped but Doug Fister and Porcello are going to be having nightmares about a Carbera/Peralta/Raburn/Fielder infield backing them up. You know they'll lose some games because of stupid defensive miscues. Fortunately, that will be offset by a few majestic walkoffs.

I know you're excited but that's no excuse to refer to yourself in the third person

I actually thought I was logged on as Shuke, there but there were too many people in the thread to just delete it after I hit "add reply." Classic Shuke.

I would like to see Peralta or Avilia batting 5th with Young dropped down a bit.Still hate seeing A-Jax on top of that order.

If we get some titles I'm fine with that.

Rob Neyer wrote the following in his blog today (or yesterday) about Magglio's contract:

"Magglio ... well, that one didn't work out too well. That one didn't work out too well at all."

What a weird thing to write. I don't know of any Tiger fan or (I'm guessing) executive that would complain a bit about Magglio's time in the D. Sure the last year wasn't good - but overall? Magglio was a great Tiger.

Completely ridiculous statement. Magglio was one of the best signings the Tigers ever made. Even his roughest year, last year, wasn't a disaster. If Prince works out as well as Magglio I'll be thrilled.
