***Officialish Detroit Tigers Thread*** (2 Viewers)

JV is really a special pitcher. His whole arsenal is just sick. He froze Michael Young on a nasty 12-6 curveball in the 6th. And in the ... 4th (I think) he struck out Hamilton on back to back changeups that just dove off the plate. Awesome.

My Duane Below love almost makes up for my combined hatred for Inge and RR. Below saved the hell out of our bullpen AGAIN today. Perhaps Dotel wouldn't have been available game 2 had that not happened. Kid was an under the radar hero today.

The Tigers were in position to tack on more runs after Don Kelly drew a walk to re-load the bases, but Brandon Inge stranded the bases with an inning-ending popout that incited a chorus of boos.

"That’s just something we all handle," Leyland said. "In most cases, I think they’re booing a result more than they are an individual. We just have to live with that.”

That's the bit of good news out of the first game - Below pitched great.Great pitching for JV in game two! So glad he got the win for the effort.

There has to be better players than Raburn or Inge somewhere we can get. They both have their stretches where they are productive, but damn, most the time you can pen them in for an 0 for 4 night.

Not right now, maybe closer to the deadline. But if injuries force our hand elsewhere I don't see us prioritizing 2B, especially given our lack of depth on the farm.

Santiago is a better solution than either of those bums. Hell I bet DK would play 2B and be ok at it.

When Raburn starts hitting come summer like he usually does platoon him (all lefties) with Santiago would be what I'd do. Yea, I'd like a better 2B, but who? Neil Walker? Daniel Murphy? Maybe if it only costs us C level prospects.

Manager Jim Leyland, for one, has noted the impact of Inge's off season workouts with Barwis, the former U-M director of strength and conditioning who runs a training center in Plymouth.

"Right now, he's stronger than I've ever seen him," said Leyland, who's in his seventh season as Inge's manager. "He's a beast right now. He's one of the strongest guys on the team without question. If you look at his calves and his arms, he's strong."

Inge said: "I've got to give credit to Barwis Methods -- that's his facility. All the guys there were great. They know what they're doing. I'd known Mike for a few years. I finally bit the bullet and went to work with him."

I think the new tiger pet name for Inge should be the "BEAST"

Technically they are booing Leyland for keeping Inge aren't they?

I think Tiger fans are booing because the tigers in general are not scoring runs. Look at Cabrera his homer in the first game was his first extra-base hit in 10 games. In the second game, he went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts. People expect the tigers to score 10 runs a game, and they will once the weather improves, Inge will get better also. Tigers are in first and in control of the central.

I don't think that's it. Tigers offensively will end up in the top 4 as they did a year ago. Fielder is a slight upgrade over VMART and we expect AJAX and Boesch to be better this year but Inge is a guy that shouldn't be on the team. Santiago should be getting those innings, even Worth.

A dog's ### hole could have managed the extra innings better than old Jimmy did today. Nothing like pinch hitting Brandon Inge and having a kid make his major league debut in extras.

Thad Weber? Why even bother to use the horses out of the bullpen if youre going to piss the game away Jimmy?
Well the Rangers scored on what ended up being a foul ball. Below and Baellester were not available, thank Porcello. Not sure why they are calling up guys like Weber though, seems like there are better options for a one day thing like Villarreal. Also I see the Tigers got Zach Miner back, always liked him.

Who from the pen was even available? I imagine most of them are gassed. Probably just threw Weber out there with the intentions on pitching him until the game was over. The 'if I am going to ruin someone's arm it's going to be this scrubs' strategy - take a loss today for 2 wins later. Hoped for a split, oh well, probably going to get more than a few more chances at these guys. At least I hope so.

Yeah that was my point. Weber was all they had, but they called him up just for today's game. Why not call up someone with ML experience in that spot?

Whatever, just glad they didn't get swept. Texas owns us. I'm a Miner fan too. Was wondering what happened to him at some point in time this spring.

its official. Texas is the big issue for this team
Considering they've won the AL two straight years and have the best record in baseball, pretty sure they are the big issue for the entire league. Tigers have to worry about their division, it's a long season.
We're slumping offensively and our pitching has been carrying the load fine. It's going to be scarry when this team is clicking on all cylinders. All in all I'd say we match up with the Rangers well, they just caught us when we arn't hitting. Our young guys (Smyly, Below, Wilk) all look good, Porcello outside of the catastrophe yesterday looks to be finally bringing things together and we have a real nice 7, 8, 9 with Dotel in the mix. I just am anxious to see the bats get going.

After looking at Webers minor league stats I am surprised he is even in the bigs. Another thing. I was at the game yesterday and I have tried to warm to Comerica Park but just have a hard time. Don`t get me wrong when walking around it is a beautiful looking park. The seats IMO are way too far from the field. We sat in the Tiger Den four rows behind the center aisle behind the Texas dugout and it seemed we were a mile away from the action, and these are considered premium seats..at least price wise. Second it is way too big. Tigers lost at least two HRs yesteday..Jackson hit one around 420 to center as did Miggy..both long outs. I know that other teams lose HRs at Comerica but the Tiger play 81 games a year there and are built as a power team.

I've always wondered why the owner/management approved such a giant park when its obvious they are not a fan of building around speed and defense. Does not give them much of a home advantage imo.

Comerica is a top five park, not sure what you guys are talking about.

Tiger Stadium had the deepest CF in baseball at 440 feet, how quickly we forget.

Tigers are 160-95 at Comerica since the start of the 2009 season, that's a pretty good homefield advantage.

Loved the place when I visited. Right now I have it #3 on my list, behind Camden and PNC

I said the park is beautiful to look at and walk around and I love going there. Just feel the seating grades away from the field at too low of an angle making many of the good seats farther away from the field.

Sounds to me like you are a picky #####. Comerica is exceptional in every way.

I've warmed up to Comerica Park. I used to really hate it at first. It helps when you start having good memories of the place. It has been a big transition going from a completely enclosed Tiger stadium where you felt in another world during the entire ball game to an open air ballpark where you can see the city all around you like Comerica. Two different feels to the game watching experience. I still get a kick out of seeing how many balls are HRs now that would still be in the park if they still had the original fences.

I see Worth is batting .343 at Toledo. That can't help Inge's case either. They should just give him the Adam Everett treatment - can't hit for us, see you later. I fully expect he'll be in the lineup vs. the lefty on Tuesday to try to get his average up over .100.

Strange how Leyland started Kelly at 1B and still put Cabrera at 3B when Prince got to DH on Sunday. I guess Leyland just doesn't want to move Cabby off 3B at this point (unless he can get Inge to play 3B like he did in the extra innings  ).

The fans love affair with Brandon Inge seems to have come to an end. Yesterday was the second game I attatned this year and again Inge was booed rather loudly. It really is time to cut bait on Inge and get Worth some PT.

don't matter what the fans want, its what Jimmy wants, and he loves Inge and his glove

Braves send Jair Jurrjens to Triple-AThe Braves optioned right-hander Jair Jurrjens to Triple-A Gwinnett after Monday's loss to the Dodgers that saw his ERA rise to 9.37 after four starts.Jurrjens lasted just three innings, allowing nine hits and five runs. He also walked a batter and failed to strike out a batter. So far this season he'd allowed 17 runs in just 16 1/3 innings and hadn't pitched more than five innings, getting pulled in the fourth on Tuesday. He pitched into the sixth inning just once, in his second outing of the season on April 13 against the Brewers. He gave up five runs in that outing, as well."He is not having any health or injury issues, just needs to get back on track pitching-wise," Braves general manager Frank Wren texted David O'Brien of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.An All-Star a season ago, Jurrjens is 1-5 with a 6.87 in 11 starts since last year's All-Star break. He was 12-3 with a 1.87 ERA in 16 starts before the break, easily earning a nod for the game.Tim Hudson will be activated from the disabled list later this week or early next week to take Jurrjens' spot in the rotation, while rookie Randall Delgado will stay in the rotation. Delgado, 22, is 2-1 with a 5.74 ERA in three starts.
This is particularly for Comer who constantly #####ed about the Jurrjens for Renteria trade for three years. It was not a good trade for the Tigers and will always be considered one of Dombrowski's worst moves, but Jurrjens is barely a #5 starter these days. He's not a #2 starter...well...maybe at Triple A he will be.

After Humber's perfect game, I heard a comment here in Chicago about Humber being drafted #3 in 2004 behind Verlander (Jeff Niemann was #4; Jered Weaver fell to #12). That caused me to wonder: Who had been #1? San Diego avoided the cost of drafting the big names and went with a San Diego high schooler, Matt Bush, who has bounced around between ball clubs, bars, and jail:

Trainwreck

If Inge could even bat .240 and be a team player, I could be a fan. His glove is decent and he is versatile. But you can't have sub .200 hitters in the lineup let alone sub .100 hitters.
