3B Brandon Inge became the fifth Oakland player in history to hit a walk-off grand slam, joining Gene Tenace, Tony Armas, Mark McGwire (twice) and Mark Ellis. It was Inge's seventh career walk-off homer. He has two homers and nine RBI in seven games since the A's signed him after he was released by the Tigers.

hmmmmmmmmmm maybe the tigers gave up to soon on Inge

No way..Inge is now playing on a rebuilding team with no pressure to produce. There was too much negative energy around Inge to have success here, and for good reason.

His range is pretty bad so far but the glove is not an issue. He's gonna need to keep weight off this year, he usually puts on 15 pounds or so during the season. I think his range will improve because 3B is a feel position, the guys that play there have been playing there for a long time (and if not they played SS). I think people are really shticking it up with the softball team talk, Perlata and Cabrera are both good fielders...Peralta very good. Range is an issue and Fielder looks pretty bad at 1B, but I really do think they are better than I expected anyway.
 
I want one more pundit to whine to me about Ichiro playing on a bad team....

Can I show them my Barry Sanders jersey?

Scherzer is hit or miss, I guess we have to get used to it. He has #2 stuff and a AA brain.Smyly probably won't continue this but he's certainly got the stuff. The high K and K/BB rates are what tells me he probably has a long-term future and being a #3 starter is in his future, but I simply don't trust young pitchers. Fister looks to be for real, Verlander is the best pitcher in the game IMO and Porcello is looking at a breakout year IMO. With Turner and Oliver lurking they have resources to go to in a pinch and Verlander can break losing streaks. Bullpen looks pretty bad so far outside of Benoit, Coke and Dotel but those guys have all had their moments. Terrible run support not helping, Smyly has a 1.59 ERA now and will only be 1-0 because again they can't get him any runs.

Actually I have been suprised at Miggys glove at third. I agree he has no range but he is really quick with his hands and had a strong arm..at first he was outstanding. Watching Peralta everyday he just reminds of a SS that will handle what is hit to him but his range is limited as well. Rayburn struggled last year at second but does seem a bit better this year in the field..still to early to make a judgment. Prince is big step down from Miggy at 1B though.
 
This team is like a leaky ship right now - we plug one hole and another takes on water When they're hitting well the pitching (starters or bullpen) isn't doing its part. Now that the starting pitching is good, the hitters aren't giving any run support. Can't get all the parts moving in the same direction. Frustrating.

About time Leyland got upset publicly that the team is swinging at too many bad pitches and the hitters are not taking the right approach at the plate. Unfortunately it's been that way for years, Lloyd has been the constant throughout, and he isn't going anywhere with Leyland around.

The Avila injury worries me. I hope it's not a lingering injury throughout the year that he tries to play through like in the playoffs but it impacts his performance.

If I were in fantasy baseball leagues, I'd trade Pujols to get Inge. Shark move.

They were talking about how good of a hitter Boesch is on MLB Network last night, but that he has way too much movement in his swing. They were saying that because of it, he doesn't hit the ball as cleanly as he should.Then I thought...Grandy couldn't hit lefthanders when he was in Detroit and now he can. Joyce, same deal. Infante was a utility guy with no extra base power and he's flourishing outside Detroit. Not sure how much of that is Lloyd's fault, but we can surmise he's no Charlie Lau.
 
What the hell was Leyland doing? Using Dotel to get his confidence back I can see. But why Coke in the 8th? Then after Coke loads the bases on two infield hits and a walk, he brings in Balester who give up a grand slam then takes him out and puts Benoit in. Then Benoit gives up a double and a walk before getting the last guy. Then of course in the 9th, we get Valverde. Luckily no one threw a lot of pitches, but Balester or Below should have been the guy to start the 8th hoping they could get through those last two. Using Coke started a chain of stupidity. Also leave Balester in for one more hitter after the grand slam, you are still up four ####### runs!

Can't wait for the Gopher State Inge post, should be fun. Ten runs in Oakland seems strange, hope they can score ten runs the rest of the series. :mellow:

After Inge hit his second grand slam in the past three days for the Athletics, vs tigers last night, if you made this trade people would be calling you the great white shark. Looks like Inge has gotten his hitting back with the A's

Inge would have never got it back in Detroit. Too much pressure and the fans had turned against him. Good no-pressure situation Oakland. It would not suprise me at all to see Inge raise his BA to the .220 - .230 range.

Andy Dirks – 4-for-4, 2 runs, 1 RBI and his 3rd homer. Leyland doesn’t like to change his lineup (he writes it on rolling paper and each changed lineup is one less cigarette). So Leyland’s put Dirks in the two hole in the lineup, where he could stay for a while, and he’s doing with the bat what was expected of Boesch. In the big picture, he has pretty modest power (which doesn’t mean he blushes after homers) and slightly better speed, but not a burner. 14/18 would be my expectations over a full season. Right now, he’s a hot schmotato

Albright is pretty funny sometimes. And he seems right more than he is wrong. I typically check out his Friday Afternoon Buy/Sell religiously.

Fortunately, that wasn't a serious post.I was feeling pretty smug when Inge struck out his third time up with men on base. Then he pops another GS. :shock: Read that Miggy and a few others took early batting practice - Miggy dropped his hands a couple of inches, and ..bammo! See if we can get something going here for a change.
 
So Max not being on my roster has worked wonders for him over his last 2 starts.

He's still out on my waiver wire and I'm thinking about picking him back up. He's lined up for a 2 start week v CHW (which he has pitched very well against recently) and PIT.

Two above average matchups. Of course I'm not picking him up to start him, I'm just picking him up to make sure my opponent can't.

Could work out this way because they do want Avila to rest every fifth day or so. Scherzer likes Avila I know, not sure about the rest of the staff. I would think Smyly would be a good candidate.

thought I read a couple starts ago that they found a problem in his delivery.Whatever they found, he's pitching much better.
 
Cabrera just cost the Tigers a run in the 1st inning with his defense. Oh well. We will just have to put up with that sometimes.

Yeah I wasn't sure if you knew, wanted to make sure you had the info for fantasy. IMO he will probably play tomorrow and then sit on Sunday, then maybe four of five next week.
 
It wasn't enough that inge had to kill the Tigers when he played for them. Now he has to kill them playing against them.

 
He had 269 at bats in Detroit last year, 23 RBIs. Inge has never had a run like this, actually not many guys have. Four of five games with four RBIs, not bad.

I think he deserves it, he should enjoy the moment because he'll be back to .220 Inge in no time.

Weird things happening this season. Let's add Inge to the list. Oakland was his worst hitting stadium (min 50 PAs) in his career. Not including today, but this does include his short time with the A's, his career numbers there are .159/.230/.283. That's a .515 OPS :lmao:
 
The Tigers' last 12 games: W, L, W, L, W, L, W, L, W, L W, L. Well, they're consistent - a consistently .500 team.

 
Oakland, CA (Sports Network) - Brandon Inge continued his tear with a three- run home run and four RBI as the Oakland Athletics crushed the Detroit Tigers, 11-4, in the second of a four-game set.

Over his past five games, Inge has homered four times, including two grand slams, and has driven in 16 runs. He has four, four-RBI games during that time and is the first player to accomplish that since Yankee great Lou Gehrig turned the feat in 1931.

Wow, Inge is now being mentioned in the same breath as Gehring, tigers have to be thinking twice about letting him go

This is embarrassing, they need to fire Lloyd right ####### now. I know I've been saying this for four years now, but today is the day to cut ties and send him to be some Connie Mack League manager.
