***Officialish Detroit Tigers Thread*** (1 Viewer)

I want to see Garcia in the line up more. Been really impressed by him.

Great to see some hitting tonight. Damn, with the Tigers rotation, they should be winning 70 percent of their games down the strerch with any decent run support. Nice performance by Fister tonight.

League MVP if Tigers take division.
Agreed. Seriously flirting with the triple crown ..not to mention hits and runs.
Miggy is the MVP with or without a division title. Miggy is truly a hitting machine. Still hard to believe we got him for Maybin and Miller. Miller is a journeyman at best and Maybin looks to be a bust given his hype. Has to go down as the most lopsided trades in history given Miggys age at the time and the production since. Tigers would have been in sad shape without that trade.

Enter Ryan Raburn :wall: I knew this would happen. They really need to #### can Leyland. In a season that may come down to a single game, he's done more to help this team lose games than win them. A failure to make the playoffs falls right on his shoulders - stupid/stubborn moves like this throughout the year, and a failure to fire Lloyd. I love how they waste no time giving Baker a ticket out of town but Raburn not only stays but is going to play in the most significant series of the season next week. He has certainly earned it with his great performance this season and one pitch out at bat while pinch hitting yesterday. A fantastic idea to possibly play him in the field as well when he admits he's only 70-75% - as if he was a good fielder when he could run at a 100%.

I am sooooo sick of this  /end rant.

Detroit Tigers' Ryan Raburn returns from quad injury, expected to start Saturday

ANAHEIM, Calif. -- Ryan Raburn made his first appearance Friday night for the Detroit Tigers since July 31.

It was a small role that is expected to be much larger Saturday night.

Tied at 2-all, Raburn pinch-hit for Ramon Santiago with two outs in the seventh inning. He responded by grounding out on the first pitch he saw from Angels right-hander Garrett Richards.

"I took a shot in the seventh, just to maybe try to run into one," Tigers manager Jim Leyland said. "Maybe a two-out, two-run homer."

Raburn had been sidelined with a right quad injury since being recalled from his rehabilitation assignment with Triple-A Toledo on Sept. 1.

“I still feel it a little bit, but I think I’ll be good enough,” said Raburn prior to Friday's game. “I told the trainer I think I'm good to go.”

Leyland said he would check on Raburn following Friday's game, but discussed plans to pencil him into Saturday's starting lineup, either in left field or at DH.

"At least let him see a little pitching before he plays in the game (Saturday)," said Leyland about using him as a pinch-hitter Friday. "He's going to play either DH or play in the outfield."

With left-hander C.J. Wilson set to start Saturday night for the Angels, Leyland said it's a good opportunity to start Raburn. In an effort to stack the lineup with right-handed hitters, Leyland also said rookie Avisail Garcia will likely play in right field.

"Garcia will be in right against the lefty and hopefully Raburn can play left field," Leyland said. "If not, I'll probably play Delmon out there and maybe DH Raburn. I'm not sure yet.

"I need to get Raburn a few at-bats if he's going to play against the lefties in Chicago and (Saturday) will be a good day to do that."

As it stands, the Tigers are expected to face three left-handed starters during their four-game series in Chicago starting Monday.

Prior to Friday's game, Leyland said he wasn’t entirely sure how close Raburn was to a full recovery, but admitted the 31-year-old wasn’t “burning it up” during his light pregame jog in the outfield.

“Raburn is still sore,” Leyland said.

Raburn agreed.

"I can run on it about 70-75 percent, and that feels good," he said. "But when I try to push it even more, that's when it starts to grab a little bit."

A notorious slow starter, Raburn’s first-half struggles haven't disappeared in the second half. He’s hitting .172 with one home runand 12 RBIs for the Tigers this year and a couple nagging injuries have certainly prevented him from trying to right the ship.

“This whole year in general has been out of whack and hasn't been very enjoyable,” he said. “So, I'm definitely hoping to finish this year and put it behind me.”

Four more hits tonight off the crappy CJ Wilson, following up the stellar hitting last night vs Cy Young himself Ervin Santana.

Nice catch, Mike.

I think you guys are right, this does not look like a playoff team :sadbanana:

2 G's back and a 4 gamer on the south side coming up, so it isn't over but this just looks like a team going through the motions.

Is Leyland trying to NOT win the division?
30 more days and he'll be gone.
Leyland looks exhausted as does the team Just no fire on this team. Berry provided a spark when he came up but he is just not talented enough to carry it through a long season. Verlander can`t seem to get Kate Upton off his mind, and the team is not good on the basepaths or defensively. Not a championship team by any means. The only hope is that they can win the division because even with all the issues having Max and Verlander and Fister could still give the Tigers some hope in a series. They are a difficult team to watch right now.

I have to wonder about the mindset of the team when someone like Raburn, who clearly should not be playing, is not only in the lineup but batting 6th. This has to have some kind of effect on them mentally. I don't care what good things Leyland has done, this should be enough by itself to get him fired.

What a joke.

I agree..I like RR but the bottom line is he looks so tight and nervous at the plate now that it is really impossible for him to produce. Leyland must keep thinking RR can regain the second half magig of a year ago and be the hitter the Tigers are looking for in th 5-6-7 spot. Leyland wants RR to have a 3-4 night with a HR and two doubles and 3-4 RBIs but that happening this season is very slim. RR is mentally destroyed at the plate right now.

Well it's put up or shut up time. They need to win five of the next seven and two of those wins will need to come in Chicago, if they want to have any kind of chance.

If you're keeping score at home, that is seven one-run losses in the past two weeks where the Tigers scored two or less runs.

I think they'll need to take 3 of 4 in Chicago. Cut the lead and get some momentum. I'll be at Thursday's game.

I have no reason to believe they'll win another game this year.

Agreed, a split and continue treading water and there's nowhere to go. Thankfully the White Sux aren't going anywhere either, so there's a chance. Looking more and more like it would only be additional revenue if we make it into the playoffs though, can't see this team doing anything if they make it. Hope they give me a reason to believe otherwise over the next 3 weeks.

I agree they need to win at least 3 of 4. If they are two down or more leaving Chicago I don't see this team being able to string together enough wins consistently to pass Chicago. Even though they are playing Cle, KC, and Minn aftewards, 3 of 4 of those series are on the road and this team is horrible on the road.

The optimist in me keeps thinking that if they can somehow squeak in, with the pitching doing well, they could still do something. St. Louis got on a roll in 2006 and pulled it off so who knows. Gotta get in the playoffs to have a chance though.

Do or die time.

This team is so frustrating. The only good thing is the Sox aren't taking full advantage of Detroit's futility. This division will not be won, it will be lost by the team which sucks worse down the stretch. Does this team lack leadership? Is that the problem?

On a positive note, was at Ford Field on Sunday.... :pickle:

90 pitches. I swear, Porcello gets to about 90 pitches, and he implodes. Dammit.
He imploded? Are you sure that watching yet another easy play behind him get booted didn't start and end it?Do not blame Porcello, from the Johnny Peralta watching the double he thought was a HR and geting thrown out at second to the Cabrera half-assing his at bats they are coasting. Porcello was brilliant until he figured out no one else cared.

Not sure how many hits the Tigers had over the weekend series (15ish?) but they scored five runs. Here is what Leyland said:

“We lost three games, and we centered some balls pretty good in this series,” Leyland said. “We hit some balls pretty good to the gaps. Everywhere we hit it, they were there. It wasn’t like our bats were anemic. We swung the bats pretty decent.”
He's not in tune with this team at all. He said he doesn't need to give a rah rah speech, well he better give one after tonight becuase it might be his last opportunity as a major league manager.

Tonight was just piss poor lose. You just don't see major leaguers miss such a routine ground ball like that. Hell, most little leaguers would make that play 90 percent of the time. That inning should have never have happened.

Someone needs to light a fire under their asses. No reason these guys are losing like they are. Can't make the easy plays to win games. Meanwhile the opposing teams are hustling their butts off making great plays. They look like a team who has nothing to play for.

Fister was exceptional tonight, really not sure why he didn't start the 8th. Pitching terrific once again, no complaints on this staff in a really long time. They are doing exactly what they are supposed to.

Delmon Young still sucks.

Leyland was afraid the bullpen was too rested is all I can figure.

A couple of thoughts. Leyland said yesterday that Garcia most likely won`t make the team next season because he is not ready and is still probably a year away...WTH is he playing in September of a pennant race then if Leyland feels that way?

When they game ended last night Leyland looked reliefed and totally exhausted. Not sure but it seems like Fielder might be just a little itimidated trying to keep up with Miggy and is pressing a bit. Prince does not seem as comfortable as he was before but that might have to do with nobody protecting him in the 5th hole.

Only because the Central is so crappy there if the Tigers split the next two or win the next two there is still a very good chance of winning this thing.

Right now I am thinking of all those games that were blown in May and June. Of if the Tigers had taken care of business VS Cleveland they would be 4-5 games up.

see y'all next year.
you bridge jumpers crack me up. This is posted before you have Fister, Max, V going up against a team that the Tigers have dominated all year and it's the end of the damn world? Worst case scenario was always you coming out of this the same 2 games down as when the series started.
Has most to do with how the team is playing, they seem to show up in primetime games and go through the motions most of the other time.

Prince crushed that ball....

Another great job by Max. If he did not have such a shaky first half of the season, he would be in the Cy Yong discussion.

Agreed on both counts! I hope to see JV in top form tonight. If we win this and tie it back up, I believe we'll win the division.
