Depends on his contract demands, as the best FA pitcher available we'll see quickly if people go for his 6/90 asking price. If not, does he lower? or hold steady while the market goes to the next arm? We'll see, but if there are no bites at 6/90 and he lowers his price I think more teams will enter into the picture.
Small sample size but last year he hit .320 with runners in scoring position.

My only concern with not getting another starter is there is no room for error. If someone gets hurt or is ineffective, where do the Tigers turn?

Dempster was a bargain. Grienke's contract is horrible. Sanchez probably got what he deserved.
Should be the best rotation in baseball combined with one of the best lineups (at least the top half of the order). Just add a closer.

He's had 2 pretty good years. He'll blow 4 saves per year. He's about a K per inning guy. How about we just trade Porcello to TB for their pitching coach and then whoever the Tigers plug in at closer will get 40+ saves.

Porcello is fine to keep period. They aren't looking to give him away and trading him means losing organizational depth at starting pitching. You can use him as the long reliever/spot starter and he might find a niche. Or Smyly stinks and you put him in the rotation. Keeping him makes sense but if you can get something substantial for him, I'm not opposed to trading him.
Porcello has value, but getting a proven closer has more value. I think a Porcello for Hanrahan deal gets done soon. I am not all that concerned with upgrading SS or outfield depth. Porcello is good enough to be a starter on most teams.
