Haha, awesome. Congrats on completing your doctorate, I thought about it but it just isn't in me.tri-man 47 said:Great to see VMart continuing his strong hitting.
So DD: There's a family at my church that I'm close to. Dad, mom, and 7 y.o. son are all very avid Sox fans. The 7 y.o. and I have been buddies for years, and now that he's a bit older, we rib each other a bit about the Sox and the Tigers. They all know I'm close to completing a doctoral degree (final stages of the dissertation), and mom called her son over after church today so he could tell me the nickname he has come up with for me - "Dr. Detroit." My first thought was "D_D20," but I would have seriously confused the young boy trying to explain that one.
Been wary he's hiding an injury all year, he hurt his quad at the end of the last game before the All Star break too. If he needs a DL stint it needs to happen soon.Cabrera's back is bothering him on top of everything else. I actually hope Verlander is hurt, some sort of explanation for how he is pitching would be good. Is he hiding it? Location is the big issue and he seemed to be having release point problems two months ago but now who knows. Walking guys with the bases loaded, allowing no-doubter homers and not striking out guys is very troubling.
Yes....it has been obvious for a while now. Leyland found his man and will ride him for the rest of the season unless he really screws up.So is Benoit getting all of the saves?
Can't teams force players to get MRIs and the like? I'd have to check with dparker but it seems like if you are compensating for an injury, it may cause damage to other things like shoulders and elbows.Been wary he's hiding an injury all year, he hurt his quad at the end of the last game before the All Star break too. Took himself out of the game tonight, ####. This is a guy that plays 160 games a year, not good.Cabrera's back is bothering him on top of everything else.

The question is, why did they let him go back in the field in the bottom of the 5th? He had just batted that inning, they had a 3-0 lead with Scherzer pitching strong with a low pitch count, and Miggy clearly hurting (seemingly in a new spot ..maybe an oblique?). Nothing to be gained. They should have put Kelly in right then. It bugged me to see the perfect game lost due to a ground ball right by Miggy.Doctor Detroit said:Took himself out of the game tonight, ####. Would help extend miggys career if they would let him play 1st or DH once in while. Lots of bumps at 3rdThe question is, why did they let him go back in the field in the bottom of the 5th? Perez is already better than Ramon, I'd keep Perez and send down Ramon when Infante gets back from rehab just for the upside.I was at the game last night. Once Porcello pitched out of that tough early jam, he was really sharp. I hated to see Al Al give up a couple of walks to start the ninth, leading to the loss of the shutout. The thing I noticed is: Perez is really athletic and really fast. He made an outstanding play at second to get to a grounder in the hole (but pulled Prince off the bag with his off-balance throw), and I thought he had a legit inside the park home run, though they gave the Sox an error for fumbling around a bit with the ball on the warning track.
VMART is gone after next season.Makes no sense. You have to bench VMart or Prince. Ain't gonna happen
Yesdid i see Rondon throw a pitch 102 miles per hour?
Yep. Perez also plays SS so I'm not sure it should even be a question. I think he needs more minor league experience and he needs more at bats, but he's a way better option than Santiago at this point in time as a utility IFer. Can be used as a pinch runner, plays both MIF positions, has great range and speed, etc.Perez is already better than Ramon, I'd keep Perez and send down Ramon when Infante gets back from rehab just for the upside.I was at the game last night. The Tigers announced (via Twitter) that they have signed Jair Jurrjens to a minor league contract. Jurrjens declined an outright assignment from the Orioles last week, electing free agency instead. He will join Triple-A Toledo on Friday.
The 27-year-old Jurrjens returns to the team that signed him as an international free agent back in 2003 after a lengthy stint with the Braves and a half season in the Orioles organization. Jurrjens was traded from the Tigers to the Braves along with Gorkys Hernandez in exchange for Edgar Renteria in 2007. From 2008-11 with Atlanta, Jurrjens pitched to a 3.34 ERA with 6.3 K/9 and 3.1 BB/9 in 671 2/3 innings. He finished third in th 2008 NL Rookie of the Year voting and earned an All-Star berth in 2011.
Following a knee injury, however, Jurrjens has been unable to get his career on track. He's thrown just 55 2/3 innings at the big league level over the past two seasons, posting an unsightly 6.63 ERA. In 94 2/3 innings for Baltimore's Triple-A affiliate this season, Jurrjens posted a 4.18 ERA with 4.9 K/9 and 2.3 BB/9.
don't forget Bondy is available as well....When do they sign Mike Maroth?

With Smyly entrenched in the bullpen we're down a legit swing man/6th starter. Hopefully that can be Jair. If long relief is needed because a starter sucked or we're deep into extra innings he can fit. Otherwise, mop up duty only until he proves otherwise.I like Jurrjens, but the injury issues are troubling. The Tigers announced (via Twitter) that they have signed Jair Jurrjens to a minor league contract. Brian Wilson is holding auditions. Any other pitcher have a track record with 2 Tommy Johns?Yeah, excepting Smyly and Benoit, our bullpen sucks. All sorts of 'fail' the last two games. Thankfully, it's the Sox, and we had enough of a lead to give the guys a shot to do something good without screwing up the wins. Good to see Perez adding a couple more hits.
That's one of the few trades I thought DD screwed up on. Like the signing. I missed you, Jair!
I like Rondon, I think he's legit and he's worked through his issues unlike Al Al.Yeah, excepting Smyly and Benoit, our bullpen sucks. All sorts of 'fail' the last two games. Not really. Joakim Soria is pitching after his second and he looks decent. Didn't work well for Jose Rios, even after the third and fourth ones (He had it five times IIRC).Brian Wilson is holding auditions. Any other pitcher have a track record with 2 Tommy Johns?
Al Al could be a mental problem, he seems to be ultra-hyped or moody.I like Rondon, I think he's legit and he's worked through his issues unlike Al Al.Yeah, excepting Smyly and Benoit, our bullpen sucks. Meh ...Scherzer, Sanchez, Fister, Porcello. We've got our Big Four. They aren't wining the World Series with this Verlander, just sayin'.
Let Verlander take the Lincecum role.I'd still rank JV slightly ahead of Luke & Phil, but not by much.tri-man 47 said:Meh ...Scherzer, Sanchez, Fister, Porcello. Interested to hear what other have to say on this, but I believe it would have had an impact. Scherzer coming into his own, Sanchez justifying his new contract, Fister pitching well, Porcello and Smyly showing good signs ...you have to wonder if they'd have made the big commitment with a solid fleet of arms and some seeds of doubt regarding JV. I hope JV and Prince are still leading the charge and earning their contracts several years from now.Had Verlander not signed before the season started how much impact would his season (so far) have had on the Tigers willing to give the money that they did? Before todays start his numbers were still pretty good..not Verlander good but pretty good. After today his ERA will be over 4.
Would they have done the same? Would they still be talking extension? Would they lowball with a year left? Would they say lets see what happens and give Max the money? Do you think the Tigers wished they waited a year?
Sox are 19 games under .500 and have a run differential of -65.........don't think DET should be worried about them(even with Dunn, Peavy, and Rios)Interested to hear what other have to say on this, but I believe it would have had an impact. Hopefully this isn't our future, but the Sox continue to talk about dumping salaries - Peavy, Dunn, maybe Rios, maybe more relievers (Crain, if he's healthy). This bodes well for the large number of games remaining against the Sox.
I am not a fan of long term deals that take a player to the 36-40 year old range. The Tigers locked up Cabrera from 25-32 and hisory show that these are usually the most productive seasons of a players career. Of course Cabreras next deal will take him to the 36-40 area.Interested to hear what other have to say on this, but I believe it would have had an impact.
