Unreal DP turned by Iggy! Jim Price just said he has never seen one like that ever.
My daugter, who has let me know he is only a little over 4 years older then she is, calls him The Ninja after he popped up behind AJax when he was holding his shoulder in center field. WTH was he doing behind AJax all the way out there. We have watched more baseball together since he had joined the team than I can remember in the last 3 or 4 years.

It is awesome that Defense is finally helping the Tigers win games. The Tigers will be the Iggy and Miggy show in the post season.

In the last two months, Porcello is 7-1 with an ERA of 3.36. Not bad for the #5 guy.

4-6 vs the A's, Indians and Red Sux, not exactly a confidence builder. I was hoping Dotel would return so we didn't have to have Al Al on a possible postseason roster, but that hope is now gone. I guess you could call Al to get one out or when you needed a K, but he's just not very good and walks too many. Rondon, Veras, Smyly and Benoit is a good backend with Coke as a situational guy and maybe Al Al also. Bonderman as the last guy although with Porcello in the pen in that scenario, maybe he doesn't make the divisional series roster.

Hopefully Iglesias just twisted an ankle, not comforting that he was pulled but maybe just precautionary. As great as he's been in the field, he's been solid at the plate. .290 average, beats out a lot of infield hits and runs the bases extremely well adding another dimension.

I was just able to check the box score in the top of the ninth. That's rather ...eye popping. Scary that my first thought was whether Boston missed an extra point or added two FGs to the TDs.

Heard this morning on The Ticket it was a "shin" issue with Iggy.

Did Leyland go a little too long with Porcello last night? It was obvious he was getting hit hard but the game was still up for grabs at 4-4. I thought last night would have been a nice situation to get Porcello out of there and give Smyly a shot to pitch a couple of innings to get the tigers to the 7th or 8th.....but that was before the dam broke.

Yeah. That would have been the smart move. Easier to say now though. But I don't like how leyland uses Smyly. His last outing was like one batter. That is crazy.

Well Smyly is no longer a long reliever and I think Leyland has misused him over the past two months. The last time Smyly went more than 1 1/3 innings was on June 23rd, he's basically being called on to get two outs these days which makes no sense. Last night you could have put him in there for the 2 innings or so to get through those tough innings, but it wasn't done.

Leyland is only using Smyly in tight games and mostly vs lefties. RHBs only have a .706 OPS vs him this year, he is completely capable of going through six or seven batters as a bridge. I think this is an opportunity lost and it has cost us a few games, he should be brought in with the mindset of using him for a minimum of 1 inning. Jimmy has no issue with doing it with Veras and Rondon, but somehow Smyly is now a LOOGY+1. Dumb.

One trend I am liking from JImmy Smokes.

When the Tigers get a lead and it is getting late, sitting Miggy down. I know it is obvious and everyone else would do it, but is IS Jimmy Smokes we are talking about and he still doesn't realize cigarettes cause cancer.

Peace

Didn't mention it yesterday fearing "the jinx," but the few times they have been blown out recently tigers bounced back the next game.
and the trend after blowing a team out?

Looks to me like the winner of the inevitable Tigers/Sox postseason clash is your WS champeen.

Agree/Disagree/Call me names?
I think both teams will lose in the first round. :2cents:

Red Sux are peaking too early and their pitching is very suspect for a playoff run. Rays and A's are the teams to beat, Tigers better step up their game because they have been on cruise control for most of the season. Would be nice if the Indians would fade some so we could rest Cabrera, but that doesn't look like it's gonna happen.

This has your famous reverse-jinx shtick written all over it.

The Sox can hit. The Rays can pitch. But nobody has the pitching/hitting combo to match the Kitties and you know it.

The Tigers have all the pieces, but if Leyland sticks with Verlander as the ace, I think the Tigers will crash and burn. Post season rotation needs to be Max-Sanchez-Justin-Fister.

sheesh....

Miggy

and

two ejections

Come on Bud, police your staff. I didn't know that someone who can barely speak English can offend your little ladies that quickly.

White Sox scored 25 runs during their 9 game losing streak that just ended yesterday. They have 5 through 4 tonight, sickening.

They just don't give a ####.

ESPN Headline under MLB

Second To NoneMax Scherzer has been the AL's best pitcher in 2013. For a third time,
he aims to become baseball's first 20-game winner.

F you ESPN....next time tell everyone when some one has a no hitter going too.

Alexei Ramirez had 18 walks in nearly 600 plate appearances this year, and Alvarez walked him on four pitches. That's efficient!

Why is he even in the game??

8 1/2 went to 4 1/2 pretty dam fast.

Alvarez actually has done a nice job, more a reflection of my frustration with the team than with him. I understand it's a long season and sometimes you aren't at your best, but they just look like #### the past three weeks or so. They need to win four games this week, period.

Tigers are bringing back Peralta for the end of the season. Good move.
Dombrowski made it clear Iglesias is the SS, which is fine. Peralta would be a great PH option, probably our best option to be honest. With Tuiasasopo fading and Castellanos still not being ready, the bench options are limited. I loves me some Dandy Don but this team is shallow. Would have been really nice if Castellanos had shown he belonged and deserved a platoon like Garcia did a year ago, that would fatten the bench options.

Peralta can also play 3B, so that gives some insurance for Miggy, Prince and VMart also.

Jim and Dan said they talked to White Sox players today and ALL OF THEM said they were surprised by Cabrera's ejection last night. Cabrera is not known as a complainer or a malcontent, so MLB has to do something about this crap. How can you throw a player like that out at the plate without a warning, not once, but twice in the same season? How many players are ejected twice in a season for arguing balls and strikes? Guys like Kevin Youkilis comment to the umps on every call they don't like, and rarely get tossed. That is horse#### IMO.

I hate the concept of instant replay in MLB.

But I can not wait for the call from the booth that says that you missed the call on Miggy getting hit by a pitch.

Take some of the Jesus complex outta your phat a z z

Speaking of Tuiasopo & Castellanos they even mentioned using Jhonny in LF against lefties. Either way another bat never hurts and with Porcello maybe joining the bullpen postseason they could go 14/11 hitters/pitchers if they want. Not really a need for an 8 man bullpen with all those extra days off come playoff time.

Would anyone complain if Sanchez started the first playoff game?

1. Sanchez

2. Max

3. Still up for grabs
A luxury Detroit has is to consider home/away performance. Looking at the stats, they'd want to use JV in a day game and Porcello at night (also Fister during the day and Max at night). Sanchez is better at home; Max and Porcello are better on the road. If they throw out any presumptions of #1-5 (or #1-4 for the playoffs), they could set up the rotation based on pitchers' strengths.
