Fake Jim Leyland @FakeLeyland 5m
LISTEN UP, DICKHOLES. MY STARTER WAS GASSED AND I USED THE SAME RELIEVERS WHO GOT NINE OUTS TO CLOSE OUT A 1-0 GAME LAST NIGHT. PROBLEM?
It would help if they started the games a little earlier, win or lose. Looking forward to the Tuesday & Saturday early starts.Greco said:I hate how this affects my every day life.
It seems he doesn't get into a 'set' position - he just stands there upright.Fielder is awful at first, I really wish VMart would play more there.
Lackey's curveball was downright evil today.I was at the game and it was a tough one to watch. I was sitting down the first base line..please tell me all those Lackey curves the Tigers were waving at were at least in the zone..from where I was sitting they looked like a balls way outside.
When Cabrera got up I would have bet my left nut he would at least hit a sac-fly. A little concerned about V-Mart...looked like he buckled rounding first...just hope it is not his knee.
Here's an idea custom made for this team: Have the hitters report first.Pitchers and catchers report when, again?
Everyone listed that played LF might be gone except maybe Kelly. I think that is the one area where they will look for a new left handed or switch hitting bat to go with their eventual plans for Nick C.Who will be gone and who will be back?
Leylands ******* son Don Kelly has a job as long as his father is the manager.
Dirksie looks like he is gone.
Peralta will get a nice contract in a tight IF market and be gone,
Tui is 50-50 I think gone he faded badly the second half.
Santiago still has one year left if I am not mistaken
Veras? Would like to see them pick up his option.
Benoit? Not sure on this one. Will be 36 next year.
Not sure the contract status on Coke and a couple of others.
They have an option on Veras for 2014. The key, of course, is Scherzer (represented by Boras). They already have big contracts with Fielder through 2020, JV through 2019 (option in 2020), Sanchez through 2017 (option in 2018), and Cabrera through 2015. You know Boras will fight for a huge, multi-year contract ...with good reason. Could Detroit absorb that? If so, can they afford Cabrera in 2016? And: Will they look to resign Cabrera in 2016, banking on him having a handful more productive years ahead of him? I suppose a lot will depend on how the next week - and potentially a couple weeks after that - play out.Who will be gone and who will be back?

Germans? They aren't going to re-sign Cabrera. The only hope there is that the market is down because of Pujols, and Mr I is still alive. Otherwise he's gone, and probably rightfully so. Also Castellanos will be in LF next year, that's almost a guarantee.
I would prefer to talk about game 4 though, this series is far from over.
They have to shake up the line-up, right? Switch Infante and AJax to see if it gets them both going? Tell Smyly to be ready for long relief if Fister isn't "on?" Move the hot bat of VMart to third in the order? What am I saying - this is Leyland's team. Same ol' same ol'.Even with Fister going odds are favoring Detroit tonite per Vegas (6-5 or so). So we always gots that going for us.
im with ya man, but the tigers have like 5 auto-outs in the lineup, not that boston has been any better. sheeshThey aren't going to re-sign Cabrera. Because if he throws Smyly in the 9th, he definitely couldn't pitch today. Now, Smyly may be able to get an inning.Looking forward to these next games!
I can't agree with Leyland's logic of bringing in a "closer." Smyly retired 5 in a row - he was pitching well. In the 9th, the second batter was lefty Ellsbury, and if anything develops, the 5th batter was Ortiz ...both are weaker against lefties. Why let Boston get more looks at Benoit? Leave Smyly in and let him build more confidence.
To me it was more about getting Benoit some confidence back. He has been hanging that changeup this post season, and did it again last night. Then...he started to locate that pitch and got out of the inning. If Benoit had been pitching well this postseason I don't think we would have seen him last night.Because if he throws Smyly in the 9th, he definitely couldn't pitch today. Now, Smyly may be able to get an inning.Looking forward to these next games!

If Avila is out, I say go VMART at C and DH Miggy. Play Peralta at 3B.
So you would rather have Pena catch than VMART? I'm not sure there is much of a defensive difference to be honest. Pena has the worst catcher arm in baseball, and VMart calls a good game. You upgrade your 3B and LF defense, maybe a wash with Dirks v Pena at the plate. Not in the mood for shtick. It's obviously shtick, ace. That's dumb.Doctor Detroit said:Saturday's proposed lineup:

I disagree unless you're still shticking. You don't throw those guys into those situations at this point. They need to concentrate on hitting.
Avila hasn't thrown anyone out. VMart won't throw anyone out. Since when does Pena call a bad game?So you would rather have Pena catch than VMART? I hope Avila plays, he said he'll give it a go and feels ok. People severely underestimate his importance.
3B is easier than playing SS, Peralta's natural position. He also played there when he came to Detroit. Did you miss the news about Peralta being thrown out in LF? Moving Jhonny to 3rd suddenly now is a bad idea. You don't just step in at 3rd and be good at it.
Pena was a spark this year at times when he played. He plays with fire, something a lot of Tigers don't do. I get so frustrated with these guys. They're like little league kids when they get behind in a game. Heads drop immediately and they tighten up at the plate, swinging at everything and trying to win the game with one swing.

Well, Jhonny Peralta plays LF now after never playing one inning in the OF during his ML career. Pena can keep his sparks on the bench, he's not a ML starting catcher.
I think AAs knee is going to be a problem, plus it looked like he was dazed from the head shots he took all game as well. I doubt that V-Mart will be able to catch because he is dealing with leg issues as well..was a little gimpy running last night. So you would rather have Pena catch than VMART? I could be wrong but it seems like giving these power first basemens monster deals does not end well. Pujols, Fielder, Howard, etc. However, the market value is set so you have to pay them. If Fielder somehow helps this team win a World Series, I think it's a good deal. I hope it happens. After this season only SEVEN more season left on Fielders contract.
you can add Dunn and Teixeira to that list. Probably Adrian Gonzalez as well. The value of even the best defensive first baseman is debatable but the big problem is that they clog up the left side of the defensive spectrum. Cabrera won't be able to play third forever. He'll have to move to first but Fielder's fat ### will already be there. You have to produce an awful lot to justify a $20+M DH.I could be wrong but it seems like giving these power first basemens monster deals does not end well. It sucks man. I'm not sure how this team didn't have a better fate. I still think they're the most talented team in baseball.....,I think this thread got us 1 WS appearance, two ALCSs and a game 163.
Probably time to let it fade away though. Good season, just not good enough. Not sure if Leyland will be back or not but some changes are going to have to be made on offense. I don't think they trade Max, but I think Porcello will be dealt.
