Officiating a Wedding - Anyone Ever Done This? - Helpful Hints? (1 Viewer)

I haven’t been this excited / nervous about something in a long time. I have the unbelievable honor of officiating my Brother in Law’s wedding this weekend in Chicago. So stoked.

I've never officiated a wedding before. It's not a huge wedding but not small either. I think about 175 people. He and his future wife are super laid back so that helps a lot.

Have any of you ever done this?

Well, if he hasn't been permabanned yet, I believe that @McJose has performed a few.

Honestly, I think the best thing you can do is keep it fairly simple. Nobody will remember what you say one way or the other. They'll only remember if you say something really dumb/offensive or go way too long.

Done it twice, once for very close friends and once for my brother-in-law.

My main rule was that everything was triple stamped by the happy couple. Keep it brief, do what they want, say kiss the bride, voila.

We are gathered here today on this joyous occasion...to celebrate the love that "bride" and "groom" share.

Its a love based on giving and receiving... As well as having and sharing.

And the love that they give and have is shared and received.

And through this having and giving... We too can share and love and have... and receive.

Man, I need another cup of coffee this morning... I just spent way too much time figuring out how Jhoe's brother-in-law isn't already married :bag:

The first one was super easy: friends wrote it for me and all I had to do was preside over the whole affair.

Second one I wrote for my BIL. Super simple, no religious imagery, a bit of personal reflection. Here
