Olsen stone cold lock for stud TE production this week (1 Viewer)

A few years ago I started a thread about what happens when someone faces their former team for the first time. I think that we agreed that for the most part, the extra motivation pays off more often than not.

I think that Olsen will produce great numbers this week against the Bears, even though Cam regressed last week. What do you think?

Cam did play poorly last week before the monsoon hit, but who knows how things would have gone as the game progressed. I don't think it was a very good game to judge him on.

As for Olsen, I fully expect him to have a big game and continue his nice start to the season.

*One note though: Be sure to pay attention to the news about Jeff Otah this week. When Otah was unable to play in week 2, the Panthers relied on Olsen to add assistance in the blocking game, while Jeremy Shockey played more as a receiver. I expect that to be an issue again if Otah can't go (and given his NFL track record, it's a good bet he will not be able to play).

Nice observation.

Word here in Carolina is that Otah is practicing today (nothing official has come out yet), so that should help Olsen quite a bit.

Im in..thanks to Gates. :ptts:

Another reason for optimisim is that Finley put up 3 TDs against da Bears last week.

Wonderful point, and can't be understated. I'll also throw in a conspiracy theory just to make things difficult. If "we" think Olsen will have a good game and be a focal point of the O, I am sure Chicago realizes this too (yes, a shocker). Knowing that, if I were Carolina, I would go to everyone but Olsen, unless the oppy presented itself. Carolina needs a win here (that NFC South is not as "staunch" as everyone predicted, and they are not a distant last by any means), so they don't have time to "play nice"...if this were NE v. Cincy, I would bet the farm ocho would light it up, because they can afford to mess a round a bit and Belicheck likes that kind of validation. Personally, I would go to Olsen on the first play, and use him as a decoy going forward until the D "got it" and then conservatively, integrate him back into the plan.

Confirmed now: Otah was a full participant in practice today, so he should be good to go.

Great news for Olsen.

A few years ago Steve Smith shredded Lovie's D. I think it was a playoff game too. The first team defense knows Olsen pretty well and Lovie will probably try to take SS out of the game and take their chances with Olsen. On a separate note, did anyone else notice that late in the game, once Jacksonville stopped blitzing Cam and began dropping more players into a man-zone, Cam struggled hitting the windows. I realize he was a little off to start the game anyway, but at a certain point the Jags called off the heavy pass rush and played multiple zone defenses. With the zone players having their eyes on Cam, it seemed as though he struggled a bit more than a little.

Just thinking outloud. Curious what your thoughts are.

A couple responses I received from a comment I made to Darin Gantt on twitter (former Panthers beat writer, and still the reporter who is most in tune with the team).

Ya think? I'm no fantasy football guy, but play him. RT @solorca I'm more interested to see Olsen against CHI. He has something to prove.

Thanks for the heads up, but was there really any concern about Otah playing? He had a concussion in week 2 and was back in week 3. I understand that the guy is very injury prone, but he's not injured coming into this week...so no real reason for concern about him starting, right?

Well, he missed practice yesterday because of back problems, and in the past, minor looking injuries ended up costing him games.

Ah, I see...thanks for the insight...

Been down with Olsen all year. Even in the first 2 weeks, Cam has looked his way a lot. He had a TD called back in week 2 due to a penalty and another play where cam overthrew him in the endzone. Olsen seems to be a goto guy for Cam.

Olsen has had at least five big catches called back on penalties so far this year. It's starting to get ridiculous.

But its good that they are looking his way more than Shockey.

Yes, Olsen saved the day with that late TD. The good news for Olsen owners is that Shockey has a hurt finger and he suffered a concussion, so Olsen may be getting even more touches. The third string TE is Ben Hartsock, and he's almost solely a blocker...so Olsen will probably be the primary receiving tight end if Shockey is out.

Off topic I know, but the thread title reminds me of those annoying Jonathan Stone 'Stone cold lock' commercials. I called one time to get the 'free' pick and all i got was sales pressure to purchase and they also use your caller id to harrass you for weeks after that. That's interesting because the commercial says, no sales guy, just the winners. LOL.

If you believe in Cam Newton, you should grab this guy.

Smiff is amazing, but is only one guy.

Legadu is awful.

Lafell is okay, but nothing special.

Shockey was stealing looks, but has phased down now with his injuries. Even upon his return, they run two TE most of the time and Olsen has been making plays for Cam all season.

He is the #2 option on this offense. His has risen to that status. If Super Cam is for real, Olsen will be a top 10, maybe even top 5 TE this year. Olsen, Hernandez and Graham are all dirty TEs this year b/c they are listed as TEs, but play a lot of snaps as WR2 for very potent QBs.
