One Hundred Pushups (1 Viewer)

+1 everytime, it's like clockwork. Interested to find out what my max. test will be on Sunday.Initial max test: 31--------w1, d1 max: 30w1, d2 max: 34w1, d3 max: 35---------w2, d1 max: 36 w2, d2 max: 37w2, d3 max: 38--------max test: ????? (coming Sunday)
i wonder if you could've done 39 if you really wanted to...

No offense...I stopped reading this at page 1, but you seriously can't do 50 without stopping? Again, not trying to be an #######, just asking.

Found Week 2 to be a bit of a struggle (mainly the last sets of Day 2 & 3 where I just hit the minimum max at the end)

Planning to take the test on Sunday and start Week 3 on Monday.

I've found that when I start a day, I'm fine and 15 feels like a breeze but after doing 45+, it gets tougher to keep going with the rest in between.

W2D1: 12/12/9/7/12

W2D2: 16/13/11/11/15

W2D3: 15/15/12/12/15

When someone starts off with "No offense", you can always expect an offensive comment. No offense, but you were trying to be an #$%^%$#@, and you succeeded. No offense, but what did you expect people to think when they read your post? Wow, that Doc Watson guy can do 50 consecutive pushups without even training! Let me help you out with that:"OMG, that Doc Watson guy can do 50 consecutive pushups without even training!!!!111!one!1!"No offense, I hope you feel better about yourself.

It helps him make up for his short comings elsewhere.

Had to skip W2D2 due to moving, but did W2D3 last night and I can definitely tell improvement already.

lol, ok...it was a simple question. I wasn't trying to be an ###.

I can't 37 years old 2 kids and really don't workout like I used too.

I stopped doing this until golf season is over. Was messing me up be stiff and sore all the time.

I'll go back to my core exercises/stretches for now - and keep my push ups to a minimum

Believe me, I tried my damndest so I could say I'm not just doing +1 everytime. Pushing up 38 was a struggle, going down to do 39, started the push up, got about 25% up and just couldn't do it. Got the shakes and arms turned into mush. Done.

You know what, #### off...I really don't give a #### how many pushups you can/can't do. I was honestly just surprised how many people were posting in here. I never even said how many I can do so if you want to take my comment as cocky, have at it.

Just noticed the similar path myself and "Invisible Sky Wizard" are taking....

You shouldn't be a such a tool if you have thin skin.

When y'all max out, and you're nearing hitting the brick wall, do you give yourself a rest while in the "up" position and then keep going at it?

when do you guys do the exhaustion test after week 2? right now i'm just at the beginning of week 2 and am doing a MWF split. i'm thinking if i do the exhaustion saturday i may still be tired from friday, but if i wait till sunday i'll be tired on monday.

Max went nowhere. Still at 30 but weekends are a ##### for maxing right now. I spend half of my time swimming so I'm exhausted when it comes time to do the max.

I'm in. Let's see if I can manage to actually stick with it... ;)

34 years old. 6'2" 221. Ridiculously sedentary lifestyle lately. Initial test of 18. Ugh.

My form isn't great because my shoulders are made of glass. I have torn cartilage or something in my right that was supposed to be surgically repaired 5 years ago but I chose not to get it done. Plus some serious neck issues, which is a whole boatload of fun. And I stopped doing the PT exercises a loooong time ago, so the structural stability of my wingspan is equivalent to that of a 90 year old quadriplegic. Good times.

But hopefully this will help.

You might want to start doing them on your knees, or inclined somehow to build our shoulder muscle back up.

No ...I don't find that to be much of a rest. Instead, I'll just concentrate on form and a smooth pace up and down.Wk 2, third set last night 30/25/25/20/20/50 (added an extra rep 'cause the timing was a bit stretched out while watching Mystic River).

Initial Test - 10

Test after week 2 - 23

Not sure how I am supposed to do week 3 day 1 -

Plan - 20,15,15,13,20

Actual - 20,15,13,10,10

Looks like a repeat on Wednesday

Thought about just doing them against the edge of a chair or something, but I'm gonna man up and just do 'em. If the shoulder starts feeling really effed up, I'll stop. But it's like a rotator cuff type of injury...the throwing motion and lifting my arm away from my body is what tears it up. Anyway, Day 1 is under my belt and I'm downright ashamed of myself. 10/10/8/6/12...and the last few reps weren't exactly textbook examples of proper pushup form.

Have to admit that I have slacked off. My ulcer has been really bad the past couple of days - thought I was having a heart attack Saturday night the pain was so bad. Need to get that under control and I will resume at week 1 day 2.

Just started. Initial test on Saturday was 12. I could have probably done 14 or 15 but my 3yr old was making me laugh.

Started Day1 today - I got through the 10, then the next 10, then the next 8, but couldn't do the next 6 (only got 2 before I collapsed).

I'm going to try Day1 again on Wednesday.

6'0", 230#, age 42.

Was about 180# in highschool and did 500 in one night (not in a row) - just sets of 50 or so at a time, just to win a bet. 24 years and a lot of junk food, and not much exercise makes Lowen1 a fat, out of shape pig.

My guess is around 10-12 weeks for me to get up to 100 in a row, but we'll see.

Push up are one of my favorite exercises. I have a had lower back problems for years and the core strengthening you get from push ups helps relieve my pain.

When I was in my early 20's, I could rip off 100 straight, followed up with 75 and then another 50. I did this three days a week for a few years and then I slowly stopped doing them. Got married, had a kid, work and a lot of other BS made me weak to keep it up.

Well, I've got back issues again. I'm now in my early 40's and recently was able to do push ups again. I'm taking it slowly as I don't want to over do it. I hope this helps out my back pain again because this time it's worse than ever.

I started today with 30 and then stopped. I'll see about following this plan, but I think I'm going to go with my old routine which is not to dissimilar with this one.

Week 3 is going to be a #####! Especially after doing the max test on Sunday. Improved my max by 15 so that's good. I got through the final "max" set of W3D1 with 33 (25 required), but I took a 2 minute rest period beforehand instead of the recommended 1 minute. D2 and 3 don't look to be any easier.

Week 1 day 1 for me.

I did the initial test last week, but I wanted to wait until today to officially start. I did week 1 day 1 on Saturday, but repeated it again today. My stomach muscles were the most sore. It was terrible. I have a feeling that Week 1 and I will be good friends before I move on to week 2. :excited:

10/10/8/6/9

Figure I'll give this a try. 6' 1", 265 lbs. Did 23 for initial test tonight. Need to start up some type of exercise plan again. Probably try to start hitting the gym for cardio as well.

My 7 year old son beat me with 30. By the way, anyone know if it's a good idea to have a 7 year old do this plan with me, or is he too young to start building muscle this way?

Week 3 it starts to definitely get tougher...

Initial max test: 31

--------

w1, d1 max: 30

w1, d2 max: 34

w1, d3 max: 35

--------

w2, d1 max: 36

w2, d2 max: 37

w2, d3 max: 38

--------

max test: 44

--------

w3, d1 max: 35

W2D3 done.... 15/15/12/12/35

Can't believe how much just 2 weeks has done for me..... max test is planned for tomorrow, curious to see what I can crank out. Not really looking forward to week 3. I got pushed back a day due to vacation last weekend... thinking I might do W3D1 on Friday, then repeat in next Monday to get back on a weekly MWF schedule. I can't imagine repeating a day, even if I pass, to be a bad thing.

I think it's fine to have your son doing this with you. Push-ups don't build huge muscles ...they aren't a significant muscle strain despite the effort involved (it's not like he's doing heavy bench presses). Push-ups help with overall toning and the core, so that's a good thing. Plus, it's something neat to share with you and gets him exercising - which apparently too many children aren't doing. Did my week 2 trial last night: 70, up from the initial test of 60. Because I've had push-ups in my regular routine for the past three years, I didn't expect a dramatic jump.

Been feeling a bit tired lately, so I decided to take it a little easy this week. I'm going to do my cardio but lighten up on the strength training and then pick things back up again next week.
