Most IT people Google how to fix or how to install almost everything.  They are just better Googlers than most people.

 
It's not uncommon for clients to openly request employees of certain races.

Because we specialize in manual labor positions the clients that do this usually want no white or black employees.

They want hispanics

I think you are more likely to be hit by a meteor than a serious esrthquake. But if you want to worry about earthquakes in NYC, feel free

 
If you have any kind of invasive OP medical procedure (like ambulatory surgery, colonoscopy, etc), and something goes bad with your case, the center will cal 911 and you'll be transported to a hospital.  You'll get minimal life saving measures at the op center (unlike if you were already at a hospital having the procedure).

 
I do the class scheduling at my school (private HS) so in response to the earlier question: 99.9% of the time, I am just trying to get kids into reasonable classes for them with no regard for who is teaching it. I get requests from students and parents for this or that teacher but there are far too many other factors that take precedence.

Also, you might not know that private school teachers do not need any education training or certificates. And as someone who hires, I know that most of us think having a degree in, say "Science Education" is far inferior to someone with a degree in some specific content area, say Biology, and the person with education classes at college won't even get an interview over the latter.

But think of it like this, how likely is it that a master of kung fu will challenge you in the street? Not very likely. Unless you give someone a reason to want to get you, it is very unlikely that a professional blackhat will go after your data.

As a person that also does hiring for schools, this is bad practice.  Take a good teacher, put them in another content area with time to prepare and they will perform better than a PhD in that content area that doesn't know how to teach.  Teacher content knowledge is one of the least impactful variables on student achievement (Hattie, et al.)

They also don't stock sunscreen in many stores in Finland.  This could be a problem if the earth spins off of its axis.

PhDs in natural sciences have all taught for at least a couple of years.  You could probably extend that to engineering and math as well but I don't know that as well.

when i finally told my dad that is how i solve the vast majority of his computer related problems, he actually started googling the problems himself before contacting me.

 
if the new asphalt mix that's getting paved isn't so screwed up that you can obviously see the problem with the mix (assuming that it's been adequately compacted), the acceptance testing in the laboratory is primarily so the third party consultant can churn fees.

absolutely true. my wife tuned me into this one. I have everything done at the hospital. don't care about the cost/efficiency savings of the ASCs, i have everything done at the hospital.

Correct. Exercise has tremendous physical benefits which can greatly impact healthy body composition long term. But your average overweight client who wants rapid results thinks they can 'burn fat and calories' during exercise and melt pounds off. That's just a very inefficient way to lose body fat.

Isn't one of the reasons is that a direct product of exercise is an increase in appetite.  So people with bad eating habits will just eat more bad food?

While this is true that if you are about to die due to your procedure at the ASC you will be transported to a full-service hospital.   But, having surgery in an ambulatory setting for most surgeries is better for the pt.  Better facility and usually hand picked staffed by your surgeon.  ASC settings usually can do surgeries faster and cheaper.    I have also noticed that doctor-owned hospitals seem to have better outcomes for their pt's, and the staff is usually around 1000000000000 happier.    

With all that being said if you are in poor health you should have EVERY procedure done at a big hospital.

IIRC you are a fairly fit guy who is probably close to your ideal weight most of the time. For you, yes, additional high intensity exercise will make an impact cause you aren't too far from where you need to be. 

But 5-7 hours of higher intensity cardio plus 3-4 days of strength training is a lot of time spent exercising. 

Most people are slowly gaining body fat and slowly losing muscle mass. So making no change in diet and exercising a few times a week is largely ineffective.

This is especially true for people who only do cardio (running, swimming, walking). If you add in resistance training your body uses those additional calories to rebuild lean muscle. 

The best way to lose fat and keep or gain lean muscle is a diet high in protein and good fats, lower carbs and 2x/week moderate to intense exercise focused on resistance type training (kettle bells, weight machines, body weight exercises etc).

ASCs require no where near the rigorous inspections by JCAHO.  So while they make look shiny and pretty, you have no idea what's going on behind the scenes.  And better facility and staff is laughable if you're talking about a modern research or university based hospital with a robust teaching program.  Maybe so if you go to some podunk community hospital in bumm #### nowhere. 

Sure nurses ##### but nurses ##### wherever they work.  They're 95% women for ####s sake.

Sounds like old man exercise to me.  You should lift heavy and lift often.

Not sure what ages you teach, but if you teach younger kids, how do they distribute the kids at the beginning of the year. Meaning, how do they decide what teacher gets what kids.

I figure there is some kind of draft a couple of weeks before where they get in the cafeteria with some kegs and pizzas and start drafting kids for their classes.

Every year it seems like our kids get the same teachers as they move up in grades, meaning our youngest always seem to get taught by the same teacher our older two had. And every year they say: I'm so glad we got one of your kids again.

Do tell, what is the back room secret to all this?

can't speak for all districts, but my wife is a 1st grade teacher. And the way they work it, the teacher of your kid the previous year will write up a card on them. Listing all the strengths, weaknesses, reading level and any disciplinary problems...and yes, if the parents are A-holes or cool.

the kids are then ranked in a letter order A-D, A being sterling kids and D being ####heads. The letter is written on the back of the card. Then, like a round of go-fish, the cards are distributed in order to the next group of teachers so that each teacher had an equal number of A's, equal number of B's and so on. 

In some cases, if the family was a good fit from previous sibling, then teachers may trade kids, but it often isn't allowed in her district. 

However, it is really fun reading the 'secret note cards' when my wife gets her list and hearing about all the little #### ups.

 
Golf equipment industry/design for the past 20 years:

Core driver technology has changed very little in the last 10 years. Any supposed gains in distance and forgiveness are untrue since we've hit the USGA allowable size and CT (spring face measurement) a long time ago. The rest is hype aside from very small changes (like TM movable weight technology). If you have a decent titanium 460cc driver from years ago you are set for the most part.

Irons are even worse. The biggest advancement in the last 30 years was the Ping Eye 2 as far as game improvement/forgiveness and anything past that is glorified hype. Small gains yes, but nothing like the Eye 2.

Once your equipment is past a certain threshold (10 years ago or so), it's the Indian not the arrow. Don't waste your money on equipment and focus on lessons.

Agreed.  There are folks who are doing it right and succeeding, but there are lot's of people who entered the market early (mostly retail) who are selling right for a loss because they can't make any money.
