Orange is the New Black - Netflix series (1 Viewer)

Finished season 2

Overall: B

Random thoughts:

The season grew on me as it went but I really have a problem how season one's cliffhanger is completely dismissed. Healy left Chapman alone with a knife-wielding psycho. Piper comes back from Chicago and it's like she's cool with the entire thing. It's just very odd.

As far as new characters go, I thought V was a nice addition and added a great deal to the show. Soso or whatever her name is was a horrible addition. Boring and obnoxious. She added nothing.

I thought the strongest performances were by Pusay and Nicky - they carry the scenes they're in. Very talented.

Overall I cared much less about the flashback scenes this go round. I liked Pusay's story but again, I thought she was a great character this season.

As far as the prison stuff goes, I can't imagine the prisoners have as much freedom as these women do to move around and do almost whatever they want... even if it is minimum security.

Lastly: more pornstache.

Regarding Healy and Piper, I agree, but she has to act cool with it, to an extent. Healy has the power to throw her in solitary again, so her going off on him would give her 10 seconds of satisfaction and then a month in solitary. Not a good trade-off. And she can't go above his head and rat him out since a) they wouldn't believe her, and b) it would only make him very angry. She basically has to suck it up and deal with it. And by playing nice, he did give her the furlough she requested (I am still only 6 episodes in).

Along with liking the apparently hated Polly storyline, I actually like the Daya/Bennett thing from this year.

The whole thing was getting a little old, but it still had to be dealt with. I think they went about it the best way possible, and I think Daya was right in what she was asking Bennett to do.

I think she was the only one seeing the situation clearly. Knocking up a prisoner doesn't generally lead to happily-ever-after with no complications. She was right that they could never really have a chance to be a family if Bennett didn't come clean and risk going to jail.

Pinning it on Pornstache might've been a short-term fix, but it further cements that reality. Bennett not coming clean now also means Daya has to put up with Pornstache wanting to be a part of "his" baby's life.

I think most women would hope their man/baby daddy would make a similar choice, if it came to it (as it does in this case).

For me, Crazy Eyes was a character who after S1 I wouldn't have minded not seeing again, but she ended up winning me over in S2. Thought the character herself and the acting were fantastic.

And I agree with whoever said 'more pornstache'. Definitely. Is there any way for him to have a significant role in this show again? Even if it's proven the baby isn't his, he did still commit the crime.

That part is supposedly realistic.
I get some of it yes, but a prisoner can just be left alone in a car outside prison walls for hours at a time?

Some of those things strike me as hard to believe.

I don't believe for a second that that would happen in real life, or that they wouldn't be monitoring gas and mileage on the van like when you rent a moving van, but I'm okay with it anyway.

1. Piper. No need to overthink this one. The answer is Piper. Now and forever

One pic of Piper is never enough. Only a peck of Piper pics will do

3. Soso (was on the fence about how high until the finale episode with the wife-beater shot with amazing rack and nips poking through)

After the top 5, we've got to start giving bonus points for real life hotness, as OINTB can really ugly them up

6. Flaca (on the right day, a Hannah Simone/Kardashian hybrid)

9. Officer Fischer (don't care. those bug eyes kinda turn me on)

10. Daya (thick, but another vote for eyes)

Honarable mention to Neri. I love crazy.

Good call on Maritza. Wonder what her back story is.

I almost didn't even recognize Daya in that pic, whoa.

That last picture of the actress that plays Piper, she is wearing way too much makeup, but the flashback scenes in S1 with Alex and Larry showed how attractive she is when she is fixed up even a little bit. And she still looks good on the show when in prison and having no help at all.

Going to have to watch S1 and S2 again but my initial reactions are as follows:

- If Piper is the main character... need more Piper.

- I like how they show the different factions working with/against each others but Piper should have been included somehow.

- I understand the need for the "V" character, just never liked her (maybe that was the point)

- Less of Piper's family and friends... visit = okay, scenes at home = not okay

- Red has to come back strong... huge garden or something

- What conflict will be the focus next season? Hopefully not a Piper/Alex thing. Something crazy though.

- I disagree... less porn stache but more of the fired guard. Why get rid of her?
Who was driving the van at the end? Was that the cancer ladies younger self?

And, van driver lady is the hottest on the show. Sandwich of her and fired guard lady or Piper. Cool!

I disagree with a good bit of this. Piper is boring and the fired prison guard was super boring.

The interesting parts to me are the cliques and prison commerce stuff - watching Piper ##### and moan and give myopic rants all day drives me crazy. Different strokes for different folks I suppose.

Yeah. Young Rosa . Pretty awesome scene.

Different strokes indeed. Piper #####ing and ranting is probably my favorite part of the show.

I'm going to guess (hope) she's a Sideboob groupie, Beer Can Caputo's hand picked replacement for the bug eyed guard?

By "freedom ... to move around" I didn't think you were referring to driving the van outside the prison.

But even that part seems realistic if you believe the book. "Minetta, the town driver who had brought me up to Camp on my first day, was due to be released in April. As her date was nearing, the line of succession was the hot topic around Camp, as the town driver was the one prisoner who was allowed off the plantation on a daily basis. She was responsible for doing errands for the prison staff in town, ferrying inmates and their CO escorts to hospital appointments, and driving prisoners to the bus station after they had been released -- plus any other mission that was handed to her."

Episode 4 done.

Brook :lmao: You were going to pimp me out!

Boo: Yeah Chapman you are a horrible person

And I do not like Vee at all. She is a master manipulator and a snake in the grass
So rude! :lmao:

Good season. Some episodes drag in the middle. But that was the same as season 1. Overall B+

I was thinking Mary Steenburgen might play the as-yet-to-be-seen warden, but the warden was referred to as a he in the last episode, so maybe not.

Anyway, my reservations about how the season started were laid to rest when I saw the 2nd half. Pretty great 2nd half of the season.

Our family didn't realize that was the "finale" until the next day.. we don't pay attention to what episode we are on, we just watch one or two a night.. so two nights ago sat down to watch the show.. Thought cool.. Rosa is free for now and V is roadkill ... can't wait for tomorrow night to see where they go with it..

Then last night go to start the show I see it reset back to "season 1, episode 1" so stop the show, select season 2, scroll down and noooo. that was it.. You bastards!!

All in all thought season 2 was right up there with season 1 both very well done... Love that Piper FINALLY threw Alex under the bus.. Sure it was to keep her close, but in the end Alex is the reason she is in prison so now Piper is the reason Alex is back in prison.

Bring on season 3!!

Do you guys "hate" Biggs' character? I didn't realize he was such a hated character until I heard it mentioned on the radio. Is it a case where girls hate him and guys are sympathetic, or is it just me?

I like him, but I think he's generally disliked by fans.

Guys hate him because he's such a weenie. Then there's the people that watch to see the stories of less attractive, non-white women. I think they get pissed off every time he's on the screen because he's taking away screen time from the "non conventional" characters they came to see. I think Piper gets some hate for the same reason.

I think that's pretty much why everybody hates Polly/Larry. They were just hoping Larry would go away.

Personally, I love the Polly/Larry thing, and think it was one of the best things they did this season. But I think it was generally met with a sigh of annoyance from most fans.

The problem with the Larry/Polly thing was that it seemed totally random. They went from Larry seeing her breast, to him suddenly kissing her, to them having sex, to them being in love, to them asking for Piper's blessing. I get that they are supporting characters, and they are not gonna focus too much on the minute details of their budding relationship, but it just seemed totally random, almost like, "Well, we broke up Piper and Larry in S1, so if we put Larry with Piper's best friend, that will keep him in the story."

Bingo.

Plus the timeline makes it even harder to believe. So Dia is just now starting to show from her pregnancy so the time frame from season 1 ending to season 2 is maybe 4 months? In 4 months Polly went from pregnant, to having a baby, to having her husband go on a random sabbatical, to falling in love with her long-time friend? That's a lot to swallow.

Isn't that what Fig said about Caputo's "beer can"?

It was a little random, but that's mostly just because those two don't get much screen time.

But it makes all kinds of sense. Polly/Larry are close and are a better match than either were with their previous partners. Even in S1, you could see that Polly and whatshisface just didn't make any sense together. The problems with Larry/Piper are obvious, of course.

But if you were to pair up any 2 of these 4, it would be Piper and Larry and it's not close.

Other factors

-It's not uncommon for affairs to take place the SO's friend. It happens all the time

-The stresses of having a new baby often lead to all kinds of bad #### for a relationship.

-When one party is barely in to begin with (Polly's ex), this isn't a stretch. Of course, when one part is, you know, in prison, all bets are off.

So, no, I don't find it random or a stretch.

It makes every character involved much more interesting. Polly has always been great in her limited screen time, and this makes her and the Polly/Piper relationship even more interesting.

It made Larry far more interesting and more likable.

The scene with Polly/Larry telling Piper might've been the best scene on the show all season.

If anyone didn't love the active-aggressive stretched out snatch banter, then I just don't know what to say.

Just finished season 2. The Vee character about ruined it for us. I don't know if it was the acting or writing, but I just never could buy the act. Very entertaining otherwise.

Same, missed the mark for me. Was glad
she was killed at the end
but not for the reason they intended.

Didnt read above pots because Im still watching it but i thought Pipers dad referring to his own mother to Piper as Celeste, and then Piper referring to her own grandmother as Celeste was some of the worst writing of the series.

This show has a lot of hot women but for some reason I am incredibly attracted to Warden Fig. Damn she is smoking and damn the writers for not getting her naked.

With Hair down all through the series I agree... HOT!

Until the episode when she had her hair up.. which is how she'd look the morning after... :X
