Otis fad diet thread — yoga, fasting, and kevzilla walking on🚶‍♂️ (2 Viewers)

Interesting.  I was thinking by limiting the feeding window you’d overall cut down on caloric intake.
I’ve never been overweight, so it definitely can be done. But my wife is 180 degrees the other direction, constantly eating, and is rail thin.

In general though, I believe it’s metabolically friendlier to eat as she does. Here’s one article that suggests OMAD may promote a pre-diabetic state, for example.

Probably.  I don’t generally eat breakfast anyway except out of habit.
Standard BF consult your doctor disclaimer, but for something like this I think you need an answer stronger than probably for it to work. Let your guard down one day and you can undo 2 weeks of work. And if you're eating a lot in one sitting those 13 days that could lead to an especially damaging bad day.

Everyone is different but i think it would be hard for me to wait all day to eat and then eat something healthy every day, which would lead to my diet being just pure garbage.

Ate well yesterday. Had a little wine.

Will have to really commit to get the dog walk and yoga in today. It will happen.

Keep up the good work!

131g protein

28g fiber

2967mg sodium (not.that bad,  goal 2300)

Over calories but under maintenance. No alcohol.  Got takeout with family,, knew it would go over calories a bit but didn't end up being that bad.  Scale continued its trend downward this morning so I'm happy.

1,800 active calories burned on the mountain bike this evening, but consumed a 160 calorie energy gummy on the trail. Knocked another 43 seconds off my previous PR climbing that brutal hill. In March of 2021 when I was previously in my best physical shape I did it in 12:58. I had let myself get out of shape a bit and did it in 14:47 in November. Now I’m down to 9:28. Feels good seeing actual results from the hard work I’ve been putting in, and in a relatively short period of time. I should really start doing upper body work if I want to take this to another level

Congrats!   Your accomplishment is not easy as most of us in this thread can verify.
Thanks!  It hasn’t been easy in the sense that I’ve been disciplined about putting in consistent hard work in order to hit my exercise goals and maintain my diet restrictions.

What does make it easier is the fact that I genuinely enjoy my primary form of exercise so it never feels like a chore to do it. Seeing the results with my weight and fitness makes it almost addictive to keep going. Strava almost adds a video game quality to exercising in the sense that you see your progress in segment times and it feels like you achieve a “high score” when you beat your previous best time.

That’s a lot of fiber.
7g fiber English muffin

5g fiber large honeycrisp apple

12g fiber strawberries/kiwi/granola/yogurt

15g Turkey wrap on a mission carb balance tortilla

12.5g fiber black beans peppers and avocado for fajitas

30g Two carb balance tortillas for fajitas

Total 81g

Those carb balance tortillas are 15g each but not the healthiest kind of fiber.  I usually don't have more than one in a day.  The other stuff was pretty solidly healthy though

back on the wagon - everything i lost - i gained and then some.

really need to get out of this rut.

i hit my all time high by 1 pound :puke:

started monday - down 5 pounds as of this morning - so thats a good start

Oh yea, and I’m down another 2 pounds which officially puts my BMI 1 pound away from “healthy weight” territory for the first time in probably 20 years
I told myself I would only weigh in once per week, but this feels like such a milestone that I decided to cheat and weigh myself this morning and….. SUCCESS!  BMI is officially 24.9!

Could have saved time and just ate a nightstand from IKEA.

I haven't checked in, by the way, because last week was awful and I decided not to weigh in this week.  Monday I'll see if I could make up for it with clean living* this week.

*Clean except the giant meal and margaritas I just had at a Mexican joint instead of going on a long walk, because it was sprinkling.

96g protein

21g fiber

1020mg sodium

Under calories, no alcohol. Made old school oatmeal on the stove this morning. Forgot how good it is.  Sodium was much better today.

84g protein

34g fiber

2386mg sodium

A few dozen calories over for the day and about the same on sodium but I'll take it.  No alcohol today and for the next 15 days but Easter is just around the corner.

Just left the only buffet remaining in downtown Vegas. I think I broke BF's sodium meter, but if you're not acclimated to the desert, a little extra sodium is probably protective against dehydration. Probably.

Finished yesterday around my calorie goal probably a few over but i had a bacon avocado cheeseburger and fries with my kid at shake shack and it was glorious.

Woke up this morning assuming that I would be way off track on my weight but it turns out I'm about 3lbs and change from my goal for Easter with two weeks to go.

Also had a massage therapist work on my hamstring and leg muscles yesterday and it genuinely feels all the way better.  I'm not going to test it yet with any real running but i have done a couple quick movements recently like jogging across the street or kicking off my shoes and it doesn't hurt like it did the first week so I'm optimistic.  Helping my mom with spring cleaning today and will try to do some yoga if i have time later.

Tried doing a ride that simulates my race today. Did 25 miles, 2,500 feet of elevation gain, and 2,100 active calories burned. Did it in pretty close to the same time that I did the 19 mile race last year and I had energy left in the tank.  Didn’t stop to rest either

Rode 127 miles this week… exceeded my 75 mile weekly goal.

Took a cheat day today, i was afraid i was going to fall asleep at the wheel if i didn't have coffee and a snack after helping my mom all day.  I definitely burned some of the extra calories but I'm not even going to estimate.  I'm sore and going to sleep

Been a while.  Had a work trip late last week.  I made some good choices and some bad.  I also took a yoga mat and used it twice.  Considering in the past I would have made more bad choices and not done any exercise, I will consider it a positive step.

Weekend was a mixed bag.  Drank too much, but was very active and ate fairly well.

Will get on the mat soon and walk the dog later.  Plan to eat well this week.  Need to reduce the booze consumption.

Keep up the good work!

Did a 50-min full practice yoga session to start the day.  Already walked the dog as well.

Just need to eat decent and not drink today.

Keep up the good work!

Travel day, and my back is very unhappy. I probably won't pay much attention to nutrition,  but I'll be back on the horse tomorrow. Figuratively.

So there's a place near me called Boston Billiards Club, and they have a poker room and an app you can use to sign up to play, but they call it BBCC... Boston Billiards Club Casino.  And i was waiting and thought hmm that's a weird acronym bbcc... why didn't they just call themselves BBC?  Oohhhh.... and then i kind of chuckled to myself and thought it's a shame because i have a @SWC and then i wondered wait is that where he got his name from?  because that would be amazing to finally have gotten the joke after all these years

I use a tennis ball or pink bouncy ball or a bottle of water and position it so my back is pressing into it at a spot that hurts. Move it occasionally and really press it into my soft tissue where it's getting sore.  It feels amazing.  Also like to put it under one leg or the other so it's pressing into my hamstring.  Keeps my leg muscles from having to hold me up exactly the same the whole trip.

I haven't checked in since about a year ago. Is Otis still fasting?

I got a shoulder injury about a year ago (probably SIRVA) that prevented me from doing a whole lot other than walking. I couldn't do a single pushup. I couldn't shoot a basketball. I couldn't apply shampoo with my right hand.

Eventually, as I started to regain some range of motion, I got into swinging light Indian clubs (one pound, then two pounds). It hurt in a good way, so I did that a lot. I started regaining some strength and could do a single pushup. Then two. Then I started to improve pretty quickly and my pushups are now back to normal.

I gave heavy club-swinging a try. I couldn't do the overhead stuff at first, but I think the basic swings (inside circles, outside circles) really helped because of the tractional force on the shoulders. Eventually I could do some overhead stuff (two-handed shield casts, then one-handed swipes), and now I can finally do one-handed mills and reverse mills with a 15-pound club. (Though just for a few reps, and not terribly well.)

I can also shoot a basketball again, though it takes about ten minutes of warm-up before a free throw is within my range, and another few minutes to get to the top of the key.

Anyway, I think the heavy club-swinging is fun, and it reinforced for me how important that is. The best exercise is the one you'll actually do, and I'm way more likely to do something if it's fun. For me, that often means doing something that involves learning a skill. Club-swinging fits into that category. So does jumping rope (which I've started doing recently). So does juggling while wearing wrist weights (ditto). A couple decades ago, I used to have fun rollerblading, so I just ordered some rollerblades to start that up again.

The thing I've been doing the most lately, which doesn't involve any skill so I have no idea why I think it's fun, is rucking. I like walking way better than I like jogging. Rucking is as enjoyable to me as walking is, but provides more intensity. If anyone is looking for a new fad to get into, I highly recommend giving rucking a try. And club-swinging. (We'll see how the rollerblading goes...)

Under calories no alcohol. Unfortunately my hamstring is definitely not 100% still, but got some walking in with my son and played together at a nearly empty Dave and Busters before the evening crowd arrived. Got dinner there but if I'd eaten healthy at breakfast and lunch and didn't go overboard so the only real victims were my protein and sodium.
