Otis fad diet thread — yoga, fasting, and kevzilla walking on🚶‍♂️ (6 Viewers)

Finished listening to that movie. The guy makes a few iffy assumptions but for the most part gets it right and doesnt go too far out on the taubes limb.

One of the things I think he gets dead wrong is that fat cells dont keep growing. There are mechanisms from which to make new ones. This is the reason all but 2 or 3 of you are doomed. Fat cells are easily made but nearly impossible to kill. And once they are made they want to eat. Badly.

Horrible.

Quick question.....what is up with bicycle riders going side by side instead of one behind the other? Going side by side puts the one guy in the road and much closer to traffic. Why?
If it's a group, it's a double pace line which is a very efficient way to draft.  It's it's two people, they're just shooting the ####.  They are probably safer doing this because it's better to own your lane and force a car to pass when it's clear than hug the shoulder and have them pass you when another car is coming the other way on a curve.

And who wants to stare at a dude's ### for miles?

Still don't get how you gain weight eating at steakhouses.  It's the easiest place in the dining world to hit the right macros for a cut.  What the #### do you order.  Exactly.
It may be simpler to ask what he's not ordering.

Was up 12 lbs last night since Tuesday.  Went out for sushi last night.  3 large glasses of water plus two diet sodas and I don't recall pissing more than once in 12 hours.

Weighed in this morning and was pleasantly surprised with 264.2.  Down 4.8 since last week after only losing .4 last week.

It's coming.  More of a diesel than a speedster.  The marathon with 3000 ft of climbing that I hiked/jogged 1.5 weeks ago has solidified the base.  Started with a top mile time of 12.5 min back in Feb and knocked out a 9 min mile at the end of the workout this morning.  If I drop forty more pounds that would be a 7:40 mile without any additional cardio gains.  Hauling around this weight has it's advantages now as long as it doesn't lead to an injury.
You making an ultra comeback?

Doing my taxes. I wish I were good at keeping money and bad at keeping on pounds. Sadly, turns out it's the reverse.

Got a bib for Umstead in 3 weeks. Can you do one on 5 weeks of training, maybe 100 miles total with a week taper while being 40 pounds overweight?
Can I?  No.  Can you?  I'm betting yes.  Probably not sub-23:00 again, but like you said you're a diesel than can just keep on chugging.

July 4 last year, I was sitting at a picnic table looking at what was left of a rotisserie chicken I had just demolished. I felt like crap, totally demoralized. In my head, as I had said many, many times before, I said "my diet starts tomorrow." I am 6'2" and was 242 lbs, just a few down from a high of 249.5 a few years earlier (I never let myself hit 250 as that would have killed me).

I've worked out 3x/week for years. One hour on the stationary bike, heart rate between 135 to 155, for about 900 calories. I knew if I could just control food and drink, the weight would come off.

So beginning July 5, I ate a piece of fruit for breakfast (banana, apple, pear) and another piece for lunch. For dinner, a head of romaine lettuce, 1-2 tablespoons of Caesar dressing, some croutons and some chopped grilled chicken thigh (I'd make a batch Sundays to last through the week). Saturday dinners, I did whatever I wanted and I soon found that I couldn't eat as much as I could before because my stomach was shrinking. Instead of crushing most of a pizza, I could eat two slices of a large. And man did those 2-3 beers taste good after refraining all week.

I also added 1-2 workouts but I eased off a bit on the intensity so I wouldn't burn out riding the bike.

By mid-to-late September, i was 217 lbs. 10 weeks. My doctor was stoked for me. Unfortunately, i needed to have a minor procedure which took me off my diet and workout routine, and then the holidays hit. By New Years, I was 220-221.

I started the diet again two weeks ago tomorrow. I weighed in this morning at 215.5. I think my goal is 200.

It's hard to be hungry...at first. You get used to it. I'm hungry right now but I'm cool with it, whereas I used to get really cranky. Amazing what your mind and body can do.

Good luck dudes.
It's one month later and I am following this diet almost to a tee, although I am cheating a bit more on Friday evenings.

Weighed in yesterday at 206.8. Nearly 9 lbs. in a month and my goal of 200 is in view. I do catch myself not looking at the finish line. It's probably at this point I need more focus than ever.

Good luck all.

@Sand

226.8

Down over 15 lbs since Jan 1. I know that's only a week's worth for some of you mutants but I'm happy with that progress. Still a ways to go to get to my goal but I have all year to get there. No rush. Just keep doing what I'm doing.

@Sand

Today's weight 201.0

Down 0.2 pounds this week and 8.6 overall.

I am really happy with my progress even though it is nothing compared to the progress that many of you have made.  I have re-dedicated myself to the weights and am eating healthier.  This contest was a great idea.

Just want to say congratulations to all the guys that have posted 30+ lb drops! Outstanding work!

I am 243 today. I keep following the Otis plan, and somehow- I can't figure out why- it's not working for me. At least I'm down from my starting weight! Tell me where to send my money, and I'm happy to send it. Glad to see that Chance for Hope was mentioned as a possibility. That was going to be my choice, as well.

More discussion on obesity and drinking

If you are somehow hemmed in behind a paywall, Jane Brody took a closer look at a 2015 study which I have cited here before when discussing drinking and weight gain/loss.

My current theory is, and has been for some time that drinking acts a bit like metformin in your body and has some minor benefits in moderation.  I think it will take another decade or more for people to come around on that, however.

199.6

FINALLY back below 200.

im following the @AAABatteries plan - low carb, high fat, protein, and just "real" food. It's the easiest diet I've ever been on. I lost 6 lbs. in about 10 days, I'm eating all I want, and I'm never really hungry. I'm really enjoying it!

For people that love meat and vegetables it's about as easy as can be.  Just don't drink any calories.

I will say I'm ready for the contest to be over so I can ease in to a maintenance plan.  My plan is to take my plan and do it for a month - if I continue to lose great, if I stay the same that's perfect.  If I gain at all I'm going to tweak it.

I think it's impossible to gain weight eating this way. I've tried. I pig out all the time and I'm still losing weight. It's quite interesting.

You think you've tried to gain weight eating this way.  I've been eating my ### off for 3 years with very little to show for it.  I think I've finally got some real progress going again, a lot of it is due to background research I found while discussing things here.
