Otis fad diet thread — yoga, fasting, and kevzilla walking on🚶‍♂️ (1 Viewer)

Surrounded by tons of kids and candy all day.  I drank a little light beer and had some mac and cheese.  But not a smidge of candy.

Yo - @Mister CIA - please see this post for context on why I @'d you

How are your resolutions going?  I'm specifically interested in your fasting you were doing - how is that going?
Ha! Resolutions are a wreck.  Actually, I may have turned a corner.  Started hitting the gym three weeks ago and set the beer aside two weeks ago; sleep has improved significantly.  Currently my philosophy is to always be leaning into good habits.

Fasting: Early in the year I had great success: I completed water/black coffee fasts of 3, 5, 2, 2, and 2 days.  Pretty much kicked psoriasis (moderate to severe) to the curb.  I was highly motivated to fast.  Since then, over the past two months, I've fallen short.  I broke two fasts at the 36 hour mark, and managed to eke out one 48 hour fast. I've learned that beginning a fast on Monday after a weekend of beer and football is difficult.  I can deal with the hunger, but the headaches and restless sleeps are awful.  I'm gonna keep working it (always be leaning).  In fact, I have a Peter Attia podcast queued that discusses fasting and technique. I'd like to hit seven days.  Current motivation is dealing with general purpose aches and pains, and I'm hopeful that an extended fast can combat the underlying inflammation.

Yeah...I'm not much into sweets so have had no candy, but due to Halloween traditions I have had:  (1) nearly a bottle of wine (by myself), (2) 1/4 of a very oily 14" pepperoni pizza, and (3) 1/3 of an order of potato skins.  This is not a good day.  ####.

Based on your recent results, I wouldn't sweat it. Just like one good day doesn't undo a bunch of bad days, the inverse holds true as well.

Just get right back to what you've been doing for weeks. Enjoy today.

I appreciate your support and hope you’re right.  😊

@krista4 I had 5 delicious beers, 2 Jell-O shots, half of a burger and some fries   And 1.5 miniature candies. F it. I’ll work that crap off tomorrow. Time to pay the piper.

Crappy day yesterday for me too, K4.  Nature of a holiday.  Small victory though in that I didn’t eat any candy.  And Otis loves candy.

One day never will make a difference.  It’s long term, and you’re killing it there.

Bummed not to be able to run this morning.  My knee has just been so sore the past couple days.  I got up at 5 to test it out, hoping the pain would be gone, but no dice.

Probably not great that I ran on it Wednesday despite the pain, and probably stupid that the day before that, despite pain, I did leg day, including squats, leg press, etc.

So I’ll give it a few days.  Let the knee heal a bit, and the ankle on that same leg could use a rest too.  Was really starting to enjoy the running, so hoping I can get back to it after the weekend.

I don't even know you anymore....

I knew I was going to be a ####### last night, so I skipped dinner and just ate a small portion of mac and cheese once getting back from trick or treating. Had a pour of Jameson 18 year at the neighbor's before we headed out, at the 7 pm pit stop, and a capper at the end of the night. Good group of kids last night - like many of you, winds were howling, temps falling, and stuff falling from the sky...and they still made it to 8, with only one of them hitting any sorta wall.

But like clock work I had way too much candy after the wife and kids were in bed. I bet I still came out ahead in calories, but those calories were empty ones. Need to fix that today.

Kee - Keto?

Panther - you still doing yoga?  In yoga pants?  I'll take a PM

Bell/Shady - how YOU doing?
Lazy keto.  I've had some good days and some bad.  Still doing the 44 hour fast Sunday after dinner until Tuesday dinner.  All that being said, after my initial 15lb drop, I'm just holding steady.  Still trying :)

i have substituted canned green beans for noodles i know that is not everyones thing but it saves me a ton of calories every day so what is your can o greener beaners take that to the bank brohans
My take is switch to fresh green beans
brohan i like barbecue a lot and associated with that is a love of canned grean beans also they remind me of my mom and childhood so its a good thing for me and it works from a healthy eating versus noodles and bread standpoint it probably doesnt work for everyone but everyone should find a parallell to get rid of the dead calories that come in stuff like noodles and rice and so on that in most instances we just eat as a delivery vehicle for other stuff anyhow take that to the bank brochacho

getting rid of the rice and pasta and bread is certainly the way to go.   progress not perfection is how i live my life and that move on your part is certainly progress.

The elliptical is calling....

During my day yesterday I was exposed to and offered cookies, cupcakes, ice cream cake, and of course a multitude of candy.  I eschewed it all.  Not a bite, not a taste, not a bit of backsliding. I did have a piece of bread at lunch.  I will need to rededicate.

Next challenge, Thanksgiving.  Frankly there are healthyish options along with the calorie bombs, so should not be problematic.

Yeah - honestly I have a harder time with Halloween than Thanksgiving.  Thanksgiving is basically a one day kind of thing in our family.  There's sometimes leftovers but it's not a week long thing and I can just fill up on meat and vegetables if I want.  Halloween we always buy candy a few days to week early and then there's candy laying around for the next week or so.  I try to make the kids keep it in their rooms - out of sight out of mind.  Christmas is also hard for me because that's more of a 5-7 day thing - multiple get togethers, Xmas cookies, lots of drinking.

The time period from Oct 20 to Jan 5 has always been tough for me to maintain a healthy diet.  I always gain a few pounds.  This year I made a push to lose a couple of pounds by Halloween and want to keep the weight gain to 2-3 pounds throughout this challenging time period.

One challenge at a time.  I hear you though, there will be candy around my home for quite some time.  Of curse, with my wife and daughter there always is.  Those darn skinnies can gobble it by the pound and never gain an ounce.

Simply maintain during this time frame is a victory as most will not.  Still, I hope to make minor headway, but only minor.  It will be a challenge.  I hear meth and coke can help, but alas, also not on my menu.

Curious where Oct. 20th comes from - is that a birthday for you or another family member?  Or is that just when the Halloween candy starts being brought home or put out at work?

Couple of days off the rails and in a bit of a tailspin here. This last week basically a wash. Frustrating.

This is surprising!

Honestly, this is what separates success from failure over the long term.   Most of us fall off the rails at times.   Just get back on the horse and forget about the last few days.   Don't put it off.   That is the mistake that will sink you long-term.

Just did my weekly walk to the farmers market.  It's only about three miles roundtrip, but includes going up and down some very large hills.  Plus I come home with a bounty of fresh fruits and vegetables to fill our kitchen rather than a bunch of garbage.  I love the farmers market!  Unfortunately, it only goes through the end of December before starting up again in April, so for three months I'll be buying stuff from Mexico, I guess.

My point here is, every little bit helps.  Even just get out and take a walk, Oats.  It'll make you feel better and get you over the "I messed up" hump.

How long's the walk to Mexico?  That should help right....

Haven't had a chance to weigh myself in a week, but mainly good days.
Wife flew up to look at houses and we had her birthday dinner tonight. Did pound a little fondue and had a vodka/soda and a beer with dinner, but it's the only cheat day I've had in a while.
I also only had 400 calories outside of dinner (Porterhouse with some mashed and mushrooms), so probably am still in the green.
I've gotten down to the last hole in my 40 belt and started on the second hole of a 42 incher.

Today two glorious veggie recipes for the price of one.

First scalloped potatoes (with vegetable stock instead of cream/milk)

slice a bunch of potatoes and onions thinly (I like 2:1 ratio) and chop/crush a clove of garlic or two. mix it all up with some salt, pepper and crushed nutmeg, put in an oven proof dish, fill half way up with veggie stock. Place in preheated oven. every half hour or so mix again so it bakes evenly. After about 90-120 minutes (depending on temp) the stock has thickened and the potatoes are tender. enjoy

If there are leftovers place in a frying pan or wok with some sunflower oil the next day. Heat and break up the potatoes. Add cooked rice (about the same amount as potatoes, maybe a little more), some more nutmeg, perhaps more salt, and 3-6 whisked eggs (needs to wet most of the rice/potato mix). Stir/mix until the eggs has set. Should serve 4 well

Fabulous (this is my lunch today!)

Tried going for a slow jog alongside my daughter bike riding. Immediately the knee and ankle were killing me. I ran about 20 feet and walked the rest of the way. Ugh. I’ve obviously overdone it.

Thinking about maybe just passing on the gym and running for a few weeks and just focusing 100% on diet/restricting calories and getting sleep and rest.  If I do that for a month and lose 10lbs, I can come back healed and lighter and leaner with a little less stress on the joints, and then when I get back to the gym and try running again I’ll be ready to get after it.

A month off of exercise during Thanksgiving is likely going to end poorly.  Take a couple days off and see how it feels.  If it still hurts, hop on the elliptical.

If you still aren't eating on Mondays, you should have enough energy for a 45 minute walk around the block Monday morning.  Don't push it, but keep moving and inyour routine of doing something.

Perhaps consider swimming.  Great rehab exercise program.  Burns plenty of calories and no stress on joints.

I ate too much and too frequently this weekend, but I did eat clean.  Furnace out, pipe burst, and car crash by wife had me off my exercise schedule, a bit.  Back at it today.

Between tweaking my knee, planning for the 10k I did this past weekend and the overtraining (you guys we’re right) I’ve felt like a slug the last couple of weeks.  The good news is my race went well, my knee feels ok and I feel fairly rested.

Now the bad news - yesterday was one of my least favorite days of the year.  I absolutely despise the time change and what it does to my schedule and my mental outlook.  I’m in such a better spot now than basically I have ever been in my adult life so I’m very confident but I’m also fearful.  I have to change some things up to keep my momentum.  I have several ideas but would love input from you guys on things that maybe work for you.  I’m definitely going back to my OPERATION SIX PACK nonsense, as I was getting some results.  Just not every day - was just too much.

Hope your wife is ok GB.  You are doing great - stick with it!
Wife and daughter are fine.  Car, not so much.  Insurance headaches ahead.

Furnace had a squirrel crawl into the vent pipe to gain access to our home.  Overcome with carbon monoxide it died and clogged the vent.  Furnace refused to run, as it should under such circumstances.  At zero degrees that caused a pipe to burst.  I got the squirrel out after checking a bunch of stuff.  I got the pipe patched and the wall patched and textured and painted.  wife wanted new faucets and drains in master bath, did that too.  After all of that I found it to be an excuse to not exercise Friday, Saturday, or Sunday.  Back at it this morning, bike and treadmill.  Will be working from now until around midnight, but will take a bit of time to hit the gym around 4.  Half hour of some light weight work to clear my head and fire up the metabolism just a bit.   The important thing to me is that the new eating habits stuck as to choices, if not portions.  Feel good that things will move forward with maybe even a bit of rededication.

That’s a great idea actually. Maybe I’ll just keep getting up at my same morning routine time, but rather than lifting weights (I don’t need GAINZ right now anyway, quite the opposite) or trying to jog through pain, I’ll just brisk walk for 45 mins. If I do that 5 days a week, that’s something I guess?

Absolutely.  You need to do SOMETHING.  So it's that or the elliptical.

hey brohans i hope that it is going well and i know this may be hard but my suggestion is just get rid of any haloween candy you have left over take it to work or just trash it but do not leave that temptation around to ruin your next week of working out take that to the bank brochachos

rare moment of non bs from the ole swcer here i have had pretty significant surgery on my hips which included both of my hips replaced and it was a real big chore to learn to walk let alone jog again the big deal for me was getting my leg muscles back in shape it took a while to get them from atrophy to ready to go and i did it by just starting at 2 then 3 then three point five on the treadmill and then finally after a few months of that breaking in to a light jog at about four and it hurt every step of the way and that was with a physical therapist all i am saying is at least for me it was more than just weight loss i needed to get my legs back in to fighting shape slowly too take that to the bank brohan

I take it to work and let my coworkers pack on the pounds, don't take that to the credit union, muchacho.

I have likely told this story before but I lost 20 pounds by cutting pasta and bread intake drastically while taking brisk 45-60 minute walks daily.    Eat less.  Move more.  Lose weight.   Good luck.

Guys?

 🎉 🎉 🎉  WE DID IT!  🎉🎉🎉

9/9:  Embarrassing starting weight

9/16:  -6.0 lbs

9/23:  -3.0 lbs

9/30:  -2.2 lbs

10/7:  -3.0 lbs

10/14:  +1.0 lb

10/21:  -4.4 lbs

10/28:  -1.4 lbs

11/4:  -2.0 lbs

Total through eight weeks:  -21.0 lbs

My goal is 37 lbs lost, so I'm not there yet, but 20 seems like a milestone, maybe because it always seems to be the bet amount in here.
