Otis fad diet thread — yoga, fasting, and kevzilla walking on🚶‍♂️ (17 Viewers)

Rough waters ahead. Rainout for almost the entire weekend, not a lot to do but sit around and eat/drink. I hope I can find something to do, I could paint the Den and gust bedroom before my son visits in a few weeks. Yeah that's probably a good idea and will keep me busy.

Made bangers tonight by the Fresh Mkt, they make them there in house I think, so delicious and so bad for you but I didn't eat much else today, corn flakes and a couple of beers, gonna try and cut it right about here and avoid the sugars tonight except whatever fruit is around.

Mrs grabbed TripleTail a Florida delicacy in the fish market department, going to cook that up tomorrow and have lots of veggies to counterbalance this day of garbage, good luck over the weekend folks.

The scale says I lost 0.8 pounds this week, which is great when considering the lack of exercise. I'll be out next week too, because the grocery I'm headed to later is about all the walking I can take right now. I can walk normally, but without much of a stride. Another week of rest and I might be ok.

Got home from vacation today. Unfortunately there were no remotely runnable paths near our cabin, but we still did a few mountain hikes that got the blood pumping. On Monday my grandmother was suddenly hospitalized with pneumonia, and I broke down and had a few drinks that night. Thankfully she’s doing much better now, and I stayed alcohol-free for the rest of the week.

I only had 2 truly terrible meals this week, which isn’t horrible for vacation IMO - still looking forward to getting back to my normal diet/exercise routine, though. BP is still stubbornly high. Hope everyone else is doing well!

Back at it today after another weekend of too much booze.  Did get a decent amount of exercise over the weekend, doing stuff around the house and also working in my yard and garden.

Walked the dog 1.4 miles (18:04 pace) and did a 40-min yoga session to kick off Monday morning.  I don't know why I hadn't noticed before, but the down dog app has a yoga setting for no warmup.  Since I usually do my session right after walking I changed to the no warmup.  Makes the 40-min session much harder.

Keep up the good work!

Been 2-3 days, let me log in my work.

Sat Morn: despite calls for TS Fred even on Friday telling us we would be rained out all weekend and we managed to find our way on as Fred passed West of here. 2 blissful hours.

Sunday: Mrs and I worked on our feet distributing food since FL is Delta Central right now. Just a few hours but one of the more humbling experiences I've had in some time. Feel very lucky/blessed to have the luxury of picking and choosing whatever I eat and drink.

Monday: Last night I played for about 2.5 hours with a higher level of Tennis players but it's mixed, even number of females and males, some of these women are so fit and athletic it's scary. The lady I was paired with in the 2nd set looked like a track star at the Olympics but like many of these chiseled athletes when you put the racket in their hands and they have to do more than just run down the ball, the playing field evens out quickly. The lady asked me if I would continue my tutorial with her at 7am during the week to hit for an hour before she takes off for work 😄

I am so sore this morning in my upper thighs in the front going up towards the waistline area and hips, just sore like I haven't been in quite some time. Probably a bit dehydrated,

Since July 24th when I renewed my commitment so I didn't roll back too much, Mrs and I have lost almost 20 lbs combined   and I'm very proud of her and mostly it's been exercise and eliminating most sugars, honestly. I have cut way back on hard liquor which makes a huge difference in many parts of the health cycle.

Cheers Everyone!

Sorry to hear about grandma, we have a set of grandparents on my son's other side of the family and they are not doing well right now, opted not to take the right precautions with what is happening right now.

-The bigger thing here though is just like there is emotional eating, there is emotional drinking which believe me, I can be very weak on this front.

At least you see it and can admit it, most will not.

I was able to trudge the 125 yards to the laundry facility a few times this morning at more or less normal speed and stride. I think that was the limit, though, because I tweaked my foot a little when I got back. I'm nowhere near ready to exercise again, but the season doesn't really start for me until 9/23, and I'm a veteran who doesn't need a lot of preseason  :P

This is actually not the worst BUT...we have been on a mission to get back to the 80s and I keep coming up a smidge short. The goal was to get down under 185 before we entertain my son and his g/f coming up in about 3+ weeks.

-Had my yearly Physical yesterday and passed with flying colors. I will say however, my doctor has packed on a lot of weight since I last saw him, he was always a little pudgy but this last visit I felt like I should have asked him to hop up on the table and let me check his vital signs. "So Doc tell me, what are they feeding you down in the cafeteria these days?"

The very fit blonde nurse ran my EKG, perfect...and so was my EKG chart.  115/70 blood pressure which I guess is good. Since I quit red meat, my blood work comes back with nothing but positives these days. Cholesterol level dropped thru the floor.

-No prescriptions, NONE! But they do want me blasting Vit D, Zinc, basically s lot of vitamin supplements and was going to ask this group if all of you are taking stuff and by stuff I mean mostly supplements you can buy direct.

It's Aug 18th and the first really big candy fest is only about 72 days away and yes I love me some Halloween, might be Mrs and my favorite, we decorate the inside of our house the way some like to do for Christmas. One of our very first dates in '93 was The Nightmare before Christmas and we knew immediately we liked each other.

Stay Strong, Stay Focused...that's mostly for me.

Why zinc?  It is my understanding that is desired for immunity.

Why zinc?  It is my understanding that is desired for immunity.
The good doctor and I were having some discussions about immunity or immune system and he's not the first person I have heard who is been preaching Zinc for weeks around here so I wanted to understand why he wanted me to start taking that and 5,000 mg of Vitamin D...I get that from the Sun when I am on the Tennis Courts...I'm Irish but I am golden brown right now 😂  in the Florida Summer. He wanted me to also start taking multiple vitamins or a multi-vitamin, he seemed a little sad he couldn't find something to write a prescription for so he started putting vitamins down on a sheet you might send over to the Pharmacy. Honestly, the nurse seemed more qualified than the doctor.

Walked the dog 1.4 miles today (18:56 pace) and did a 40-min yoga session.  Did this session with a twist focus hoping to work out a twinge in my upper back.  (Had a bad spasm there over the weekend and it is still sore, getting old is fun!)

Had my annual physical yesterday.  Bloodwork came back early today and it all looks fine.  :pickle:   My BP is still a little elevated, but in logging it over the last few weeks I've realized it's only truly high not long after I have my morning coffees.  He said having BP a little high after coffee is no big deal, as long as it goes back down later in the day.  So I'm going to keep doing what I'm doing and also cut down on my coffee/caffeine, which I'm not looking forward to... but it's better than taking medicine.

Keep up the good work!

   These are the posts I look forward to, when folks put in the time and energy and then have to go do a check up and you can see real results. We'd all like those perfect bodies but if I can't have that than I want to get Aces when I go in for physicals and check ups, I look around the wait room and my eye balls pop out at some of these folks.

Because of all the cream I pour into my coffee even though I skip sugar, the cream still has some but it also has like 40-80 calories per a couple tablespoons of this stuff...we go thru a quart of half n half every 3-4 days, I blow thru coffee like crazy. I'd like to scale it back a bit and ween off so much caffeine but I love it in the morning and usually don't eat.

I'm back to counting points until next Friday, when I go on an eight-day vacation.  I'd edged up about four pounds and would like to lose a little during the two-week period I'll be counting.

Oops.  This lasted 3.5 days until my fridge went out and fridge-related stress combined with work stress to lead to Indian food and wine.  Back at it tomorrow.  :bag:

66 pounds down, 8 to go to my initial goal. Had a pretty voracious appetite through Monday, and was behind coming out of the weekend. Did a lot of exercise to make up for it, 3+ hours each day on the exercise bike. I take one rest day from exercise each week, usually Friday when I do these weigh ins for recording. Considering doing a 1 day fast on rest day. I tend to reward myself on it after a good weigh in, but without exercise then I end up behind and having to make those extra calories up. Which gets doubly bad if I eat extra the rest of the weekend like this last week. But, I'm donating blood today so not a good day to fast. But maybe next week.

Shoulder continues to improve. Very little pain from normal movement. Gradually increasing the weights in the physical therapy exercises but they are still tiny amounts, not weight lifting. I'm at a point that not increasing too fast and reinjuring it is my biggest concern. I really want to get going though so it's tough to not push forward.

Walked about 3 miles this morning and did a 40-min yoga session.

Wife and I agreed to take a few weeks off the booze starting on Sunday.  But we're having a big of a blowout before the dry out.  We had Chick-Fil-A last night and tonight we're having pizza.  Probably having steak on Saturday.   :excited:

Keep up the good work!

Feels good to be back at it -- walked 10 miles and ran 8 this week. It was frustrating not having a place to run during vacation last week, but my legs are so fresh now that I think the off week was actually beneficial. Got down to a 7:37 pace during this morning's two mile run, a nice improvement over the pace of my first two-miler on the 8th (8:04). Probably went over my sugar limit on Monday, and I'm meeting an old friend for tacos this afternoon, but otherwise my diet has been very good.

What's most exciting is that I got some surprisingly low BP numbers this week. This also happened to be my first zero-alcohol week in over a year. I wonder if those two things are related.  I'm still in the "elevated" zone at 124/76, so not out of the woods yet, but it's a huge improvement over where I was before (uncomfortably close to the stage 2 hypertension zone). Seems like booze just needs to be a special occasions thing for me. Sort of disappointing but it's clearly important for my long-term health. Might need to hit up MoP and Otis for some info on those fancy NA drinks they've been talking about. Hope everyone else is doing well!

Exercise over the weekend was only the typical suburban dad stuff.  Day one of no booze was yesterday.  Planning for a little over a month with no alcohol.

I had 1 good stiff drink over a big ice cube yesterday, I'll say a 2 oz pour and prior to that was a full week between hard drinks. I do sip too many cans of beer and will be working on that next, like today and the rest of this week.

If I can achieve a 10-15 minute daily meditation or yoga/stretch to go along with things, I want more than a trim waistline, I want the whole thing now, mind-body-spirit and that's gonna keep me motivated for a long time.

Emotional balance is something that can also cut your calories way back. I am not above eating my feelings away when i allow outside energy to take over and that's actually something people can control. You cannot control what people say and do but you can control your reaction and emotions. Easier said than done, i wish i were better at it. But awareness IMO is a good first step and the desire to make changes.

The dog days of summer seems to have gotten the better of several of us.

-MoP was 192 Flat this morning...let's play a game if you'll indulge me...What will MoP weigh on Friday Morning?

Here is the schedule next 72 hours roughly...I am going to be working on my feet helping a friend who is a contractor finish out some work, he literally cannot find anyone to help him and I'm no handyman or a guy that works with his hands, that's not my specialty but I'm fit and can handle the work. I feel an inner spirit pushing me to get out of my comfort zone just pushing paper at a desk.

Next, I'm scheduled to play Tennis tonight(League play), tomorrow night(16 Adults-Mixed/Round Robin/Social but I SWEAT), Thursday Night I am playing Doubles with all youngsters in the 25-30 range, I'm 47 but will be directing and helping these 3 folks improve their game...yes they're fit n fast but they don't even know how to hold the racket properly to maximize spin as an example. You cannot teach raw speed but thankfully that isn't the biggest factor in Tennis although it helps a lot.

Any guesses for Friday? I'll set the O/U at 188.5 and see what the early guesses and bets will be, all in fun. I didn't get to participate in the t-shirt contest this year, how about the winner gets a free t-shirt from yours truly? Yeah I like that and it will motivate me for the week. You probably have like a 1 in 4 or 5 chance judging by the post in here lately

   Oh and btw...I woulda never done this for my contractor friend if I weighed 240+ like early 2020.

Place your bets folks

@Ministry of Pain 187.  Partly for the amount, partly for the double meaning of the murder code.

Still off the booze.  Had a busy day yesterday but was able to walk the dog and get a simple yoga session.  Today I wasn't able to walk the dog but struggled through a 40-min yoga session.

Been eating well.  But today my yoga session didn't feel very strong, something was off.  Wife and I both been feeling a little off.  We're both fully vaccinated, but we're also wondering if we may have delta since it's rampant here.  Oh well, nothing to worry about for now.

Keep up the good work!

I'll go 189.2.

So frustrated, because just a few weeks ago I was ready to drag my GB out to the courts and play some patty-cake, interspersed with a blazing winner whenever I got bored. I got up to top speed the other day when I was in Wal-Mart and remembered my wallet was in the car, but in the space of 150 yards or so, my foot reminded me that it still existed and still didn't like me much. I may have to give the elliptical another whirl.

I injure myself in the weird ways as I keep aging. I can play Tennis and be alright but step out of my car the wrong way and I suddenly get a cramp in my upper thigh almost causing me to immediately start limping...WTH!

Kev 189.2

Place your bets on the roulette wheel.

Here's a little info, we got canceled last night for league play, we start it up the new session next week. So I was already at the courts and entered one of these adult clinics where I easily am a better player than almost all of them(I prefer matches over drills) but you have 10 people on a Court running drills and I never stopped for an hour even when there was time to stop I kept running around and I was so drenched by the end of the class and then we stated playing another 45 minutes of Doubles and I was so happy to come home and skip dinner go directly to a couple tallboys of Lite and off to bed.

-Thursday forecast for rain not looking good, hoping to get in tonight again, much higher level of play than I saw last night.

Been feeling like my fitness has been declining. Not sure if it’s due to the fact that my kids’ sports have severely limited my time to get out and ride, my diet getting unhealthier, or a combination of both. Been hitting the bike pretty hard so far this week. Up to 53 miles so far. Did 18.5 tonight and tried to PR up a local 1.5 mile 700ft climb, but fell short by a few seconds. Probably took it too conservative between the .5 and 1.0 mile markers for fear of gassing out, but did PR the final half mile. Felt good to push myself.

Yesterday was another good day.  Under calories and off the booze.

Walked the dog this morning but not enough time to do anything else yet.  Busy day.

Keep up the good work (if that applies to you)!

:suds:

Still sipping my cans o'beer throughout when I feel thirsty but I have cut back on liquor, have not a shot of tequila in almost 3 weeks I'll say, did have 1 or 2 stiff Bourbon-Whiskeys on the past 2 weekends but nothing during the week and i've stopped eating out unless its fresh catch grilled on a bed of salad with things in it I won't make at home like beets which I actually like but would never buy to eat at home.

But I still gotta have a beer or two when I get off the courts or do some heavy exercise, it's like a reward for all the work.

We had 187, 188, 189.2 and 193. This was my way of trying to get over the hump lately, clocked in at 190 last week, 192 on Tuesday...we set the O/U 188.5 for a Friday morning weigh in with lots of activities this week and drum roll please...

186.8 which means that Poke got the closest at 187 and I will say I am surprised because I ate over half of a large Grandma's Pie(sheet pizza) but I had an ace in the hole last night being on the court with some of the most fit and agile players I had seen in a while. It started off nice and easy but after a few games the competitive level went up a couple notches and nobody got their feelings hurt. My team actually lost 6-4, 6-4 but I was soaked coming off the courts despite another lovely gentle breeze down here. I cannot believe it is August in South Florida right now.

Mr Poke, I will send you a PM for a mailing address

Been eating well all week and still no booze.  Tonight and the weekend will be the test(s) for the booze, but I really want to dry out for a month plus.  I have been at a plateau with the weight loss and I think kicking the booze for a bit will be the key to finally dropping some lbs.

Keep up the good work!

Great week, broke my workout records on the exercise bike several times the last two weeks.  If I counted weighings right after sweating off a few pounds on the bike I've been down to 209 already. I go by the scale in the morning here to be consistent.

Looking forward to hitting the first goal. It feels like it's within my grasp at this point.

Blood pressure is down to healthy levels this week!  :pickle:  When I went to the doctor in June I was at 140/90, bordering on stage 2 hypertension -- this week I averaged 115/75 or so. Feeling extremely good about that.

Otherwise it was a pretty standard week, walking 10 miles and running 9. Set a very slight PR on yesterday's two mile run (7:33 pace) despite 100% humidity. Diet was solid except for having too much sodium last Friday -- and it's going to happen again this Friday since we're making homemade pizza tonight. :)  Coming up on 3 weeks of no alcohol. Also, not sure how much I trust the scale at Walmart, but it says I've lost 20 pounds. Hope everyone else is doing well!

I did 30 minutes on the treadmill at 2.0 mph. No pain. Doesn't burn calories, but it will keep the rest of my running gear in tune.

The scale says I gained 0.1 pounds this week. Not surprised.

Good Morning!  Now up to 8 days w/ no booze!  Going strong.

Walked the dog about 1.5 miles this morning and did a 40-min yoga session with core strength boost.

Ate well this weekend and did enough exercise.

Weighed in today at 196.4, which is a tie w/ my lowest since I started tracking over a year ago.

Want to get below 190 before I start maintaining.  For the last few months I've been holding around 198, I would prefer to be holding in the future around 192.  Not a huge difference, but allows a little bit of sloppy before crossing over 200 long term.

Keep up the good work!

Quiet in here.  Walked about an hour this morning (first half w/ the dog).

Under calories and no booze yesterday.

Keep up the good work!?!?
