I'm fine with open wall space, that just looks like too big a step down from the zebrawood on the right to me. If you like it, more power to you.
Fair enough. Different perspective on it (pic taken from standing in the kitchen)http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/kk161/offdee/FBG/IMG_3126.jpg
Glass over the zebrawood?
:goodposting: W.T.F.
Not sure what the issue is....it's framed art, why wouldn't there be glass? The zebrawood is a veneer wall covering material, so it's not a thick slab of wood or anything...just a cool textural looking pattern. It's an easy and somewhat cheap way to randomly swap out designs and have a large statement on your wall. Before this zebrawood I had some cool looking vintage wallpaper I found at a resale shop....spray mounted it to some foam core board and voila....new large scale art. Invest in some nice frames and you can swap out the insides on a regular basis to keep your space fresh.

I've found that Cutter Bug Free Backyard spray works better than citronella.
Thats what I use and it works great. The one that hooks up to your hose.
Spend one evening outside with a thermacell unit running and I guarantee you'll never mess around with all that stuff again. I've bowhunted in southern Georgia in early September with swarms of bugs and Mosquitos around me and a thermacell next to me. Not one bite and it clears the area. We use one all summer long on our back deck and never have a problem. All friends/neighbors who come to our house end up buying them as well. They work
Can you recommend one? I'm looking and only see one that goes on your belt and a lantern looking one.

My yard becomes inhabitable once the summer really kicks in.

Edit.. I think I found itThermacell

Just oredered 3 of em with replacement cartridges from Amazon - Looks like a lot of good reviews too  :banned:

I'm going all out this summer - Spray every few weeks plus these things... I think we have some swamps in the area.
Yep, that's it. I have one of the lantern style ones that we use on the deck (keeps our entire 2 level deck free from bugs) and we have 2 of the hand-held units like you bought. You will be very pleased.Otis: Here is the company website: http://www.mosquitorepellent.com/home-away-specials.asp They run on little butane cartridges and replaceable pads that have a chemical that is found in chrysanthemum flowers. It emits a very light wisp of smoke that does wonders. Turn it on 15 minutes before you're going to hang outside and no more bugs.
I'm kinda thinking I might just plant me some chrysanthemums around my patio.

Serious question, has anyone ever given you criticism on fashion or something you did that you did not get extremely defensive about?

That might work...I just prefer to spend the 10 bucks a summer on refils for this thing (plus I can take it with me whenever I'm someplace that might have mosquito issues. Not sure if they work on spiders/crawling bugs, but it does work for most all flying insects (black flies, gnats, etc)

Nice looking place. That zebra wood art is crooked however, and would drive me nuts.

Found this awesome umbrella at Home Depot today. (Put it in your pie hole, Fred!)

The lights are solar charged, and they are dim LEDs that put out just enough light for a peaceful/romantic evening, especially when paired with the citronella candles.

Amazing night out here tonight. Drinkin beers, feeling breezes. GB the Burbs.
We were thinking about picking one of those up. They have good deals on overstock.

:blackdot: This morning sprayed that Cutter stuff everywhere. Also got a couple citronella candles and this Off thing where you burn this coil of stuff and it lets off a smoke and lasts four hours. Burning that now. But I will keep my eyes peeled for this Thermacell thing.

Did some gardening today. There is a huge planter and about a dozen pots in the yard that previously had nothing but dirt in them. Got up and hit the nursery, bought a whole crapload of flowers that I know nothing about, along with some soil. Realized I don't have any gardening tools so I used one of my wife's big pot spoons that she uses to make pasta as my digging item. Not sure if there is a rule to all this other than bury the roots and then water a ton, but that's pretty much what I did. Now the yard is looking a little more lively.

Obviously. Because you need the collective wisdom of the FFA and our decades, nay centuries of combined family man/suburbia/home-ownership/letter mailing history to help you do each and every mundane task.

Yet this thread is 36 pages and counting, and you moved in what, 3 weeks ago. Go figure.

Did Mrs Otis see you using her kitchen utensils to dig up the planting? I know that if I used my wife's cooking utensils for yard work, a scary raccoon would be the least of my worries.

No. This was a covert operation. It's already washed off and returned to the sink.

I don't understand the wood in a frame shtick. Somebody explain.
I'm not a fan but I can see how someone would like how the texture broke up the room. However, I think putting it behind glass looks horrible. You're not trying to protect a Picasso here.

I also spent the morning at Home Depot. My strategy now is just to walk around and see what things are, and then ask myself if I have that problem or my house would otherwise be better off if I bought it. THis probably leads to a lot of wasted money and makes me a sucker for marketing, but so be it. I'm improving my home, right?? The spoils of my trip today:Miracle Gro Evergreen & Miracle Gro Tree & Shrub fertilizer sticks - need those trees to grow for more privacy. These things seem cool, whether they do anything is another story.

Scotts Patchmaster Grass Repair - I ####ed up when I put a stone there overnight. Wifey was not happy.

Spectracide Weed & Crabgrass spray - doesn't seem to hurt the grass, did it a few weeks ago and took care of a lot of the clovers etc, but there's still some. Did another spray.

Solar path lights

4 new hanging outdoor lanterns plus one for the post in front. The ones we have now are fugly.

A thermacell because you guys recommend it... and I hate bugs.

Also, last week I bought a garden rake, pruning shears, hedge shears, and a shovel. I don't why I really need any of these - what the hell am I digging for? - but seemed like something I should have right?

Still don't have a lawnmower or edger... pay someone $30 a week to do it (about 1/3-1/2 acre, so not a ton, but still takes time).

BTW - if you want landscaping lights, stay away from the solar ones unless you get a LOT of light on the front. We bought the "better" ones which were "6x brighter" (at $25 a pop) and they were barely visible... going to get the wired kit which is like $100 for 4-5 lights plus the transformer.

:blackdot: bugs don't like me, but they adore the Mrs. this might be just what we need

Looking to get something like this -- anyone have a better/higher-quality suggestions?
I have one and I wouldn't suggest it. It was a housewarming present a few years ago. Easy to put together and it looks nice, but here are the downsides:

1. There's only a handle on one side, so if you're keeping the cooler on a smooth surface; fine...just use the wheels. But inevidably, there will be a time where you need to move it while full of ice and beer, and it's extremely inefficient.

2. The top only opens side to side instead of straight back, which means that alot of the time, people are going to just remove the top and then not put it back straight, which leads to ice melting faster

3. Also, after 2 years, the cooler portion expanded so the top doesn't fit anymore

Otis - you're going to want to get some backyard games like ladderball, cornhole, bocce, horseshoes, etc. they're all fun with a beer in your hand, but some are better if you have a flat area with a fence, others if you have no fence and some dirt patches.

No flat areas in O ville AFAIKHe's got neighbors towering over the back of his mudslide backyard, and the whole lot slopes?? Something like that...expect we'll see a 12 photo 360 series soon.
