Over / Under before Marshall gets suspended (1 Viewer)

This following isn't directed at the OP. I've just noticed the various comments about Marshall in numerous threads as well as the injury thing I mention in this post.

I don't quite understand the venom towards Marshall. Do we not need to root for him? Shouldn't we root for him? The NFL needs Brandon Marshall...& it would be great if he could be the poster boy for a young life turned around. It seems to me a lot of people are actually hoping he gets into trouble again. I find that kind of disturbing. It's as bad as these jokers who wish injury upon players for no other reason than it might help their freaking FF teams. Are some people in this hobby really that evil? Pretty sad, IMO.
I don't have any major issues with Marshall as far as hoping he fails or wishing him ill or anything like that. I give a guy like Ricky Williams a lot of leeway because I think he's simply an interesting character and good for professional football in that he raises pertinent questions about the importance of the game. I'm usually a guy who gives professional athletes the benefit doubt for a lot of the reasons listed here. I've driven drunk before. I've partied before. I've been through college and the fun that goes with it. But I think it's incredibly naive to compare Marshall's history with most adult males' average history of "boys being boys." I've known a heck of a lot of people in my 34 years on this earth, and of those people I don't think a single one has had as many police-related incidents as 24-year-old Brandon Marshall. Like SSOG said, I could pretty much understand the bad relationship issues, but how do you explain away the rest of it?

All of that said, don't you think there's a fine line here? For everyone you're seeing "hoping" Marshall gets in trouble, there are a dozen with their head in sand claiming there's no issue here and not even willing to consider it a topic worth discussing. I don't hope he gets in trouble at all, but I am very leery of someone with his -- ahem -- track record in a keeper or dynasty league. There's no ill will on my part, but that doesn't mean I have any faith in him keeping his nose clean. I think it would naive to believe that's going to happen.

I have no problem with your stance. None. However, there's a huge difference between believing Marshall will stay out of trouble (or even ignoring the situation) as opposed to those wishing ill will toward their fellow man. The former is simply an opinion, but the latter is just being down right mean. Even if someone believes Marshall is likley to return to his criminal ways, why not root for the kid to turn his life around? Wouldn't we all be better off? I don't understand. As someone who's been around quite a bit longer than even you have, I can assure you jealousy (talking mostly FF) is behind a lot of the hate towards Marshall. Absolutely no question. It's almost comical.

HardlyAlso, I believe most understand that it is possible that Marshall could get suspended again this year or next year. I could care less about taking Over / Under on a possible suspension of Marshall. I care more about discussing that possibility given his history. Blast me if you want, but it is a topic worth discussing.

:thumbup:More chest bumping... I can sense it...
I'm not pumping my chest at all. I find the whole thing very funny actually. Talking about the timing of everything that is. I know one thing for sure, and that is it's a very sensitive subject to discuss character issues of players, especially to their owners.

I think what puzzles a lot of the anti-Marshall crowd is they simply can't fathom why someone wouldn't put a tremendous amount of emphasis on Marshall's past transgressions (as it relates to FF). I, for one, believe Marshall is likley to stay "clean" (I've come to this conclusion after using every possible dynamic). I can understand the other side of it, but I don't quite believe it works the other way. ;)

Let's all hope Marshall gets his act together & becomes a productive member of society...& relish in the fact we get to see what might be the best WR in NFL history play for the next 10 or 12 years.

I agree and am not accusing you of chest bumping. Just you're opening a can of worms that his owners and guys getting a hardy thinking about him are going to come out of the woodwork and start all kinds of chest bumping.Just speculation, that's all this all is.Look at Randy Moss- had a troubled past and seemed to get himself in line. Corey Dillon. Koren Robinson. Terrell Owens. Now look at Chris Henry. PacMan, etc. It could go either way. All that will be accomplished by this thread is a lot of name calling, a lot of pissed off owners, and a lot of chest bumping. If that doesn't happen I will be shocked. If people can put aside their FF-Macho-ness or their homer/owner goggles and have a decent intelligent conversation about this, then amazing. I just think you're dealing with too many kids and people with way too much time on their hands... that won't happen

BTW, I might be unique in the fact I traded for Marshall after the news broke & before the length of the suspension was known. Once I digested everything, I felt confident enough in this kid to pull the trigger. We shall see. ;)

This thead belongs in the CESS pool, not the shark pool. The OP keeps bumping this junk up, what a waste of the shark pool, this is getting tiresome having to sift through all the crap. ;)

If he does clean up his act it would make for a refreshing story. Something other than an "I told you so" story. Deep down I don't even see how Marshall haters couldn't feel good about that. There are a lot of variables that go into character issues. A lot more than I'm qualifed to answer or understand.

It's one thread, so I don't see how you have to sift through anything. Just ignore the thread Chachi. Yes, there is a lot of garbage in this thread, some of it mine, and surely the one I'm replying to here, but character issues of players is a worthy topic whether you accept that or not.
