In 1963 the Packers used their 12th round pick on a QB out of Notre Dame who was also selected that year in the 24th round by the Buffalo Bills. Daryle Lamonica signed with the Bills, and after 4 years of mainly carrying a clipboard in Buffalo shuffled off to Oakland. It was then - in 1967 that Lamonica blossomed and led the AFL in TD's his first year in Oakland. He went on to have 5 more years of fairly successful pigskin chucking - never a completion % kinda guy - he threw it, and threw it long.
Had Lamonica signed with the Packers, the handoff from Bart Starr would have been inevitable. Likely they would not have drafted Starr's heir apparent in the first round of the 1967 Draft (Don Horn), and would have turned the reigns over to Lamonica either that season or the next. With Lombardi gone, Hornung and Taylor in New Orleans/retired - I think the Packers might have gone to a more vertical scheme with Lamonica.
