Pennington would be off the Jets' roster in about three days (trade to Vikes makes sense actually) if they trade for Favre.imo.This trade would make the most sense for both teams.GB gets Brett out of not only the Division, but Conference as well. No chance of playing against Favre unless it's in the Super Bowl, which they wouldn't mind seeing as they made it that far w/o him.The Jets finally get Favre after years of NY fans groaning about how he could have been a Jet all these years. They have Pennington to backup and get another year to decide what they want to do with that mess of a QB tandem they have in place already. They have a much improved offensive line this year, running game to help keep defenses honest and some decent options at WR too.
Did you see the Giants as a Super Bowl team last year??All it takes is a little magic and one never knows. As a confident Pats fan, I think it'd be cool to see Brett play against NE a few times. But, even with Brett, do you really see the Jets as a Super Bowl contender?
he doesnt have a no trade clause - he can only threaten to not show up..Doesn't favre have the opportunity to decline a trade if it's a team he doesn't want to play for?Why on Earth would he agree to go and play for the Jets, I thought he wanted to play for a contender. I can see why he wants to go to TB or Minn, both are set to make runs into the playoffs but does anyone think the Jets are only a QB away from making a serious run?
I don't mind the Jets and all...but not so sure it would be as good as he had in GB.Jets have a much improved O-line, solid RB in TJ, very good WRs, quick rookie TE - as good as what he has in GB or Minny - the JEt D has been avg but Revis/Rhodes willo be better and Gholston, Jenkins and Pace are huge upgrades - their biggest weakness has been QB. I can see them making a run with Favre - plus if he ever got the JEts to a SB - he would be revered!

I know GB OL is probably better but with the JEts adding Woody and Fanacea plus Brick looking better this year I think the JEts are not that far behind. I think Coles and Cotch are comparable to Driver and Jennings. Plus Keller has looked awesome in camp - TJ/Grant are not that far apart....I think the JEts defense can be better than GB - Jenkins, Harris, PAce, Revis, Rhodes - some nice players there.I don't mind the Jets and all...but not so sure it would be as good as he had in GB.Jets have a much improved O-line, solid RB in TJ, very good WRs, quick rookie TE - as good as what he has in GB or Minny - the JEt D has been avg but Revis/Rhodes willo be better and Gholston, Jenkins and Pace are huge upgrades - their biggest weakness has been QB. Right now Brett just wants to play football and get this whole fiasco behind him. The Jets may have enough of the right players that Favre would welcome a trade there. This is an interesting scenario here playing out if this rumor is true.Doesn't favre have the opportunity to decline a trade if it's a team he doesn't want to play for?Why on Earth would he agree to go and play for the Jets, I thought he wanted to play for a contender. Oh...Id put the Jets Oline getting close. The thing is...GB's WRs dont just end with Driver and Jennings.Keller is still a rookie...he can look great in camp all he wants...but you are talking about a rookie TE.I think GB's defense is solid...but has some injury questions on the D line right now.I know GB OL is probably better but with the JEts adding Woody and Fanacea plus Brick looking better this year I think the JEts are not that far behind. I'd assume that if his agent is actually in talks with the Jets front office, there must be some chance he'd accept a trade to NY.If he really just wants to play, then he will take a trade and play. This is probably the best thing for Brett, the Packers, the Jets and Goodell. The Vikings however may still actually get hit with the tampering fine, but that is still undecided too.and i read earlier today that Favre refused any conversation with the Jets
Don't forget the Jets also have Bubba Franks, someone Brett is quite familiar with. Stuckey, and Leon Washington also add some other viable options. The Brad Smith thing too, if they ever stop trying those gimmick plays.Oh...Id put the Jets Oline getting close. Jets' QB struggles make Favre a more likely targetWord out of Jets camp is that the team has legitimately no clue who will be its starting quarterback this season. Thus far, Kellen Clemens and Chad Pennington have been wholly uninspiring, particularly Clemens. Sources indicate that Clemens has been miserable when it comes to reading the defense, a deficiency that has resulted in numerous interceptions. Pennington, while appearing to be recovered from the ankle injury that hampered him last season, has lacked zip on his passes, and there’s a concern that the offense will stay grounded and predictable if he’s at the controls. Their issues bring up the potential of Brett Favre coming to New York. It’s unclear as to whether there has been any talk between the team and Favre’s representatives, but we hear that the longer that Clemens and Pennington fail to impress on the practice field, the more the Jets will consider trading for the future Hall of Famer.

This certainly explains why the Jets might be interested, but I have yet to hear why Favre would be interested in the Jets. That's one I don't get. From ProFootballweekly.com:

Well, it would sure clear things up with the QB position. Pennington is still making something like $12mil a year, and I'm sure GB would welcome a veteran to back-up Rodgers. It would help with the trade offer too. Pennington and a 3rd, with a chance for an escalation to a 2nd.Any chance that if this does happen, the Jets include Penny in the deal? GB could use a vet QB that could come in if rodgers gets hurt/falters instead of throwing Brohm to the wolves. That would also keep Penny away from Minny which would benefit GB (as someone suggested above). One point that may have been mentioned (I try to stay away from most of the Favre threads) is that unless something gets done with another team by the end of the weekend, it is not going to matter where he goes because at some point his value to a team decreases because he will get so few reps with his new offense. A QB really needs a good year to adjust to a new team. For example, Trent Green, a QB in his prime, went to KC in 2001 and threw 17 TDs versus 24 ints; the next three years he went 26/13, 24/12 and 27/17 (Priest also arrived in 2001, so it is not like his stats sky-rocketed when he arrived). This is not like sticking Jason Taylor on the line and telling him to go after the QB and try to contain the run. Even now, I am not sure how much better a Favre would be to the Jets or Bucs over the current starters given the fact he has one month before the season starts at best.
Wendi Nix from ESPN broke this story. Just heard a follow-up interview with her from Green Bay, and she almost made it sound like this "marketing and merchandising" thing is a done deal.Just heard on ESPNnews that Brett is also actively considering a "marketing and merchandising" deal with the Packers that would keep him retired. Who the hell knows what is going on here?!

Wendi Nix presents a dilemma for me. I'm trying to figure out if I'm attracted to her or not. I'm concerned that the fact that I love women who wear their longer hair up is artificially inflating her stock, so I'm just not sure. Not sure.Wendi Nix from ESPN broke this story. As a jet fan (and Cotchery owner), I'd love to see this. Even for just two years.
This is what Murphy visited Favre and Cook about. There was more to just giving Favre "$20M".Wendi Nix from ESPN broke this story. Yeah, maybe they'll slip up and call him "Eli" by mistake. If this is indeed true, can't wait to hear the NY media after Favre throws up one of his up-for-grab passes.
I guess they would be shocked the pass got there so quickly...they are used to calculating hang time with Pennington's passes downfield. If this is indeed true, can't wait to hear the NY media after Favre throws up one of his up-for-grab passes.

Heck no - but 8-8? Definite maybe. As a confident Pats fan, I think it'd be cool to see Brett play against NE a few times. But, even with Brett, do you really see the Jets as a Super Bowl contender?

Well, there is the fact that the Jets also wear green. Some players are partial to numbers, some to colors.Certainly makes sense for both teams, but what are the chances Brett has backed off his desire to go to Minnesota? I can't see the Jets having anywhere near the same appeal for him... unless he's into the idea of playing in the spotlight of the Big Apple.
Favre wouldn't save face. He supposedly was coming back because he got the itch to play again, I guess the itch wasn't real? And how would this merchandising deal fullfill Brett's deep desire to play this year. There's no way Brett does this if he really wants to play. If he does accept and doesn't play I lose a little respect for him b/c I thought this whole fiasco was b/c he wanted more than anything to play football again? Why?That would be the lamest ending in the world!Wendi Nix from ESPN broke this story. Nahh. What it comes down to is he only wants to play for the Vikings. He has no loyalty to the Wisconsin fans only to himself.Favre wouldn't save face. No way. They are doing fine. The $20 million deal was proposed in March to be a Packer marketing rep. Besides if Rodgers gets hurt the exec(Favre) could be talked into playing. What teams need a new GM, President and Coach? What could the Packers get for a GM, President and Coach the caliber of Thompson, Murphy, and McCarthy? 6th, 7th round pick maybe. DEAL!!!!
