PacMan a Cowboy Done Deal? (1 Viewer)

Pacman has been suspended longer than any player. In that regard, there's some good reason to believe his "sentence" is up. Goodell has been tougher than his predecessors on the players that don't behave, and that's the monkey wrench some are trying to figure out.
I assume you've never heard of Odell Thurman. As to your point about pacman's sentence being up there is this:Rotoworld) Commissioner Roger Goodell indicated at the owners' meetings Monday that he doesn't believe Pacman Jones has taken responsibility for his actions.Impact: "When he does, I will consider him for reinstatement," Goodell said. "If he doesn't meet that status, I don't feel any obligation to reinstate him." Goodell says teams can try to trade for Pacman all they want, but it won't affect his decision to reinstate Jones.

I got a different sense based on this article......PALM BRACH, Fla. – Cornerback Adam "Pacman" Jones might become a Dallas Cowboy in 2008. But he might not play until 2009. NFL commissioner Roger Goodell said Monday at the NFL's spring meeting that he's in no rush to reinstate Jones, who was suspended from the Tennessee Titans for the 2007 season for conduct detrimental to the league. "In my last correspondence with Adam, I told him I would make a decision prior to training camp," Goodell said. "I've always said he has to accept responsibilities for his actions and when he does that I would reconsider his status." Goodell said he was aware of comments Jones made on the local ESPN radio show of Michael Irvin last week. He called those comments "encouraging." Still, Goodell cautioned, it's buyer beware for any team interested in trading for the troubled cornerback. "They know the consequences," Goodell said. "They know the status of the player. I assume there will be consideration of that. "But I don't feel any obligation to do any more than I said, which is to reconsider his status. If he doesn't meet that standard, I don't feel any obligation to reinstate him." The Cowboys are in talks to acquire Jones from the Titans for a draft pick. And that's the snag right now. According to a source, the Titans have asked for two middle round picks – one in this year's draft and one next year. The Cowboys are willing to give up one pick this year. Road warriors: The Cowboys will open the preseason with two road games, visiting San Diego and Denver. They will finish with home games against Houston and Minnesota. Dates and times have not been determined. The Cowboys go to training camp this summer in Oxnard, Calif., and spend two weeks there before traveling down the coast to San Diego for the pre-season opener. The Cowboys will then spend "a day or two" the following week practicing in Denver with the Broncos, according to owner Jerry Jones, in advance of the second preseason game. Contract talks: Jones reported there was nothing imminent in contract talks with veterans Marion Barber, Terence Newman and Demarcus Ware. Owners approve Dolphins sale: NFL owners unanimously approved Wayne Huizenga's sale of 50 percent of the Miami Dolphins to Stephen Ross at the league meetings. Huizenga will remain as managing partner of the club for the near future. Staff writer Todd Archer and The Associated Press contributed to this report.

Am I the only one that thinks Titans getting rid of Pac is a bad move? You would think Fisher could handle the situation. You're giving up a game breaking player..
I believe that the new penalties that are being handed down can also be levied against the team. Although this has not happened yet, Tenn. might be protecting themselves against this. Tenn. is also rebuilding so having a guy like Pacman is not necessarily an asset.

RECAP: Matt Mosley with GaC on ESPN103-Dallas...

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Mosley:

The deal isn't done, but it is imminent and by imminent I mean in a few hours. I'm saying there is momentum to get this deal done quickly. It should be a done deal by tomorrow morning.

I talked to a Cowboys official a few hours ago and was told it's pretty much done. Jerry saying their is a time line on the deal is actually pressure he is putting on the Titans as payback for playing grab-#### with this deal.

The suspension is going to be lifted. The Cowboys have been tipped off by a leak from the league office that he will be reinstated soon.

The deal will be a fourth rounder to Tennessee. Dallas only wants to give up a fifth rounder, but it will end up being a fourth. They've also told Pacman's agent they are willing to redo his deal.

Nothing is set in concrete, but I'm saying the momentum is on for this before the meetings end. Reporters leave tomorrow and Jerry wants reporters to cover this.

I've received four phone calls while on here from numbers very familiar numbers everyone would know so I need to go as something may be happening

Goodell didn't say that Monday or just that, that's so off base, in fact I think it's an older statement from himhttp://www.dallascowboys.com/news.cfm?id=0...5A411596229AE0A

Well, here is fact you can count on concerning Pacman Jones: Exactly what Goodell had to say about him on Monday, the first official day of the NFL Annual Meeting in Palm Beach, Fla.:

"In my last correspondence with Adam I told him I would make my decision prior to the start of training camp. I've seen some of his recent comments that he made on the Michael Irvin radio show; I think some of those comments are encouraging. I've always said that he has to accept responsibility for his actions and that when he does I would reconsider his status."

When asked if clubs interested in possibly trading for Jones know something about his potential reinstatement no one else knows (insert Cowboys here), Goodell was very clear, saying, "The clubs that have contacted us, I have made no commitments about his availability. I've said that I would make an evaluation and decision prior to the training camp, but there have been no promises made by me about what the outcome of that is because I've been very clear - I would like to see how Pacman does and how he responds.

"I think (teams possibly trading for him) know the consequences, they know the status of the player, (so) I assume there will be consideration for that and I don't feel any obligation to do any more than I've said, which is to reconsider his status

Anyone who thinks the Titans are under any "pressure" to do anything, applied by Jones or otherwise, is fooling themselves. Similarly, if a guy on ESPN radio has it on any authority that Jones is going to be reinstated, the Titans would know that too and the price goes up to at least a 2nd rounder.

No way ANYONE gives up a 2nd rounder unless it is conditional for the 2009 draft.

A 2nd went for Deangelo Hall. PacMan has significantly more baggage, but is every bit as good (or better of a corner) and a top returner. I think he'll go for either a 3rd this year or two 4ths when all is said and done.

Pacman is definitely just good of a player as Hall. Better actually. But Hall is not one even moderately questionable decision away from a lifetime ban. Pacman is a HUGE risk. Huge reward too, no doubt.

What will he ultimately go for? I do think he goes for more than 1 pick. I think ultimately Dallas will give up a conditional pick next year in addition to either a 4th or 5th this year.
