I had started some game notes, this is about the only one I finished.
-Lamar Jackson will have the luxury of a below avg pass rush from the Carolina Panthers. We know he will find room to run and attack the Panthers defense with whatever they give him but he should have time to set up and throw down field. He has some injuries at different receiver spots but he has some good role players if starters are unavailable.
Panthers have made more than 1 QB look foolish this season and there is always a chance they get up for this contest but Baltimore has had 2 solid weeks to prepare and rest, I expect a big game out of them. I’m sure they will want to establish the run and that moves us to the next part.
-At RB, Kenyan Drake has 2 solid if not strong performances but you don’t hear his name mentioned a lot. If other Ravens’ RBs are up and available it just muddies the waters further. What happens if Drake gets a couple touches and he doesn’t break one immediately? I can tell you, he’ll be watching from the sidelines until they are ready for him to try again in a couple drives or maybe the 2nd Half if they get a lead and want to bleed some clock. There is no set script for him as far as I can tell and I don’t see that as a positive this week.
Harbaugh said this: “Like I said, I think the blocking is improving, obviously all the reads, all the things we do. We have some good scheme stuff, so give everybody credit; it’s a team effort. Also, he is getting a feel for the way that the schemes work, the footwork. We run a lot of different kind of mid-line footwork schemes that a lot of people don’t use. He’s getting a feel for where his feet are going to be, where his eyes are going to be, where the blocks are coming from, the different fronts sometimes, where those guys are lined up and how those plays are going to be blocked. He’s probably getting a better feel for all of that.”
-I read this as he’s proud of his OL and feels like he can plug more than 1 guy in at RB with this kind of blocking effort. I would say the hot hand is most likely the script week to week. I hope Drake continues but I can also see him with 30-40 yds and disappointing his FFM.
-Carolina has little to offer, I would not want to be trying to start Marshall this week. I think the rookie will get his ears full of Ravens mind games we’ll say and they will have no problem rerouting him all day. DJ Moore will be fine, lot more experience and won’t panic.
Duvernay seems like an easy flex option. Check Mark Andrews status, especially if Baltimore is a heavy favorite to win. He might be on a pitch count at best.
Final Score: Baltimore 34…Carolina 8
-I will again remind everyone of the Inter-Conference big point spread Rule…take the POINTS!!!
