Panthers at Redskins (1 Viewer)

I'd like to say the Redskins made a 3rd down stop, but just a bad pass by Newton. Panthers punt and pin the Redskins back inside their own five.

Oh, and the Redskins have killer throwback unis.

Redskins were at least ok against the run earlier in the season. Pitt ran all over them last week and the Panthers are doing the same today.

Only way Panthers lose is if they go back to their losing gameplan of letting Cam sling the ball all over the place.

Washington secondary does suck....they can't tackle either.

Pretty BS to let the TD stand if the ref blew the whistle and the defense let up.
:goodposting: I felt bad for Dwill because it would have been a bad call, but once they blow the whistle the play is dead. Wasn't that made clear by that SD/DEN fumble a few years back?

I think this is a major problem with how the NFL handles dead plays. The whistle blew, players are supposed to stop. Had Riley had hit Williams after that whistle and they rules the play dead it is a late hit. You can't constant play the late hit card the instant the play stops then tell a guy too bad when he stops because the whistle blew and the ref changed his mind.

I don't know what the defender is supposed to do there. He's going for the hit and the WR ducks his helmet right into him at the last second.

So stupid. That's on the WR.

I really wish they trusted Griffin's arm a little more. This simple passing game isn't cutting it.

Going for another 4th down...ugh, and they do a QB sweep. Horrible! LET HIM THROW!

This coaching staff is an embarrassment to the NFL. Or at least to the city of Washington. Over-matched in every facet of the game.

Bad idea to go for it on that last 4th down. It's one thing on 4th and inches or 4th down in the middle of the field like earlier in the drive, but 4th and goal from the 2 is basically a two point conversion which converts at a pretty low rate.

He never would have gone for that if he hadn't gone for it already earlier in the drive. He let his emotions get the best of him.

Did the Panthers see DeAngelo run for that nice TD? Would it kill them to give the guy more than 2 attempt in the first half? No fantasy slant but 2/34/TD...let's keep that guy on the bench.

First play of second half is a quick pass. It seems the Redskins scale back their passing game each week. Nothing downfield and very little outside of the read option base.

They convert at over 40%. 40% x 7 points = 2.8+ points of expected value, vs. the 2.85 points of expected value on the FG there (assuming 95% conversion rate). So it's about a tossup, as long as you ignore the fact that a failed 4th down pins the opposing team in about the least favorable field position possible. Which would be silly to ignore. Mathematically, going for it on 4th and goal from the 2 is absolutely, positively, 100% the right call in probably 95% of game situations (I.e. don't do it when trailing by 2 with 3 seconds left in the game).

Is there a reason Morris didn't get a single carry on that last Redskins drive? It seemed like everyone other than him had a touch.

A couple play action passes and a lot of read option where Griffin opted for something else.
