I don’t know if it’s coincidence or not but I have seen an inordinate number of gold medal matches or events where the US is falling just short of the gold and have to settle for silver. It’s a little uncanny.

Just watched the gold medal match in men’s archery. Same thing. Tied through regulation, came to a one arrow shoot off.

Brady Ellison was 5mm further from the center of the target and takes Silver to the South Korean.
 
It's always great when a country who rarely wins a medal does so.

And China is the only country in the entire Olympics that I root against (too much past cheating).
 
Also, I think the tiny TV camera embedded in the net in volleyball is kind of cool. Maybe not a lot of opportunities to show it, but that perspective is pretty wild to see when they do.
 
Anyone have a schedule/guide that lists which events have US athletes/teams in them? The one I used previously was great for pool play, but everything I've looked at recently just has "Round of 16" sort of stuff but not listing the competitors.

When you get to the elimination rounds yes it's possible. For example there was no American in the men's vault etc

I'm sure there are still photos that do the moment justice but the TV coverage totally blew the opportunity to capture the full glory of the Eiffel Tower in the background as Kristin Faulkner crossed the finish line.

Not quite in "you had one job" territory, but it was a gift that was missed.


Now, I am going to rewind back to the breakaway. That was something.
 
Okay, I know I’m beating a dead horse, but I think it’s worth pointing out that Diana Taurasi’s stat line through three games is 2 points and 2 assists. That’s aggregate, not average. And it’s not like she’s been stuck on the bench. She was in the starting lineup for all three games I believe, with over 14 mins of playing time in each of the first two games, but ultimately sitting for most of today’s win against Germany.

I don’t know, maybe her leadership on the court was a major contributor (I only watched bits and pieces), but her +/- in the last two games against Belgium and Germany was -4 and -7 (which is pretty crazy in double digit wins). The argument that the committee simply selected the best 12 players continues to lose credibility.

The various TV guides say things like "Women's Beach Volleyball Round of 16".

So does that particular game contain Americans?

Looking for a guide that has been updated to show that.
 
I want a TV control where when I need a bout of energy, I can unmute it and have that swim announcer commentating my life.

"And Greg is checking both ways before crossing the street! That Toyota up the road has him in its sights but Greg is showing a burst as he makes his final turn!!!"

Taurasi is the GOAT of women’s basketball. There was no way they weren't inviting her.

The question is: would true leadership have been for her to turn down the invite and say it was the time for a young player to get their chance and experience of representing their country?

I should note that the shame is that even the Chinese athletes that aren’t doping are now all unfairly tainted because of the WADA’s coverup for China. So it’s not only unfair to the clean athletes of the other nations, it’s unfair to the clean athletes in China.

Especially since she was coming off an injury
 
Men's team foil fading late here in the bronze medal match. Needing a big comeback to take down the French, but it's not looking good.
