Jeff Pasquino posted an article about "Realistic Team Defense" where he basically said:

TEAM DEF SCORE = Turnovers (INTs and Fumbles) x 2 + Forced Punts

I'm setting up my league on MFL for the first time this year, and I want to incorporate this. How do I specifically do it? Thanks.

Certainly no way to do it automatically. I don't think any service could. You could calculate it manually and then adjust the Def scores by hand.

Well, I certainly don't want to do it manually. I just figured with the depth that MFL has, that somehow it could be done on there.

categories.....

fumble recoveries = 2 pts

interceptions = 2 pts

opponents punts = 1

that should handle it unless i'm missing the scoring....pm me if you want to know how to specifically handle anything

:goodposting: i am not sure how this is that difficult to score in mfl.

Hi bob,Actually the formula is:

TEAM DEF SCORE = Turnovers (INTs and Fumbles + 4th down stops) x 2 + Forced Punts

Add safeties and ST/D TDs as usual if you like.

I'm not sure if MFL has the 4th down stop stats.

By the way, the 2007 version of this article was just completed and should be posted soon.

sorry for the tangent, but why doesn't anybody just do this for team defense...

every point given up = -1

with a few bonus points for TD's and safeties

isn't the goal of the defense not to give up points and a secondary goal is to score some yourself?

nothing as frustrating to me as having a D give up one score but not do much in the TO or sack dept and my opponent for the week has a defense in a 38-35 scorefest that had a bunch of sacks and 3 forced turnovers and watch that opposing team OUTSCORE MINE WHO GAVE UP ONE SCORE

Jeff: Do you know of a site that accomodates your Realistic Team Defense scoring?

I haven't asked Mike Hall personally, but I bet he could make it happen on MFL. Send him a question and mention the article for reference.Let me know how it goes or if you need any help.

Glad you liked the approach. :goodposting:

I got a reply back from MFL.com.

Here are the rules you'd need:

Interceptions Caught - 2 points each

Fumble Recoveries (from opponent) - 2 points each

Opponent 4th Downs Failed - 2 points each

Opponent Punts - 1 point each

For the 4th Downs Failed and Punts, just click on the "Opponents" box. It was actually pretty easy.

The "x2" was messing me up. Didn't think about you could just double the pts for those. Sorry for my mislead.
