Baubles need a vendor recipe I swear, you can convert scraps and whetstones but not baubles... baubles are pretty important too, just as much as whetstones and scraps imo, I would say a stack of baubles should be worth around a chaos.Embarking on a journey tonight, I tried several times to make a crit bow build but found it to be simply impossible - until I realized today if I just sacrifice, health, armor, evasion and energy shield I can make it work, pure glass cannon. If nothing ever hits me ill be just fine. :topcat:
You can get them with superior flasks.

Looking to build an EK next. Any suggestions guys?
I was reading through this build for EK. Looks fascinatinghttp://www.exilepro.com/builds/witch/501-witch-ethereal-knives-strength-tank
I have an EK char at level 48. The most frustrating thing about him, and probably the reason I don't play him more, is Mana. Ek is very expensive, and he runs out of mana all the time, even with decent gear and clarity running. EK is also somewhat slow. But, it does do huge damage, so it's viable. Just my take on it. Yeah, it's neat and kills everything, but there are downsides. I suspect that's true with any build.

I did not know this. Now I know to store up my quality flasks and sell them when they get high enoughRecipe 1: ExactFlask with 20% Quality. Quantity: 1Recipe 2: ExactFlasks with a combined quality of 40%+. Quantity: 1

I wondered about that too. The build I linked runs multiple auras and EK. He must get a ton of use out of Eldritch Battery

I meant there needs to be something you can convert Baubles into, scraps and whetstones can be converted to wisdom scrolls, baubles can only be used on flasks.

that's exactly what I'm playing now, and I was wondering the same, but kripp kind of sold me on MI.

but, there's some other stuff up there I like, too.

I probably won't have it 'til 40, though.

Depends on your build and what the goal of your minions is, having respectable minion health (or damage from MI) is pretty heavily tied to the minion life nodes and the support. Minion Instability is actually really bad if your minions don't have adequate life as the damage scales directly from your minions life, as well as making their effective health only 66% (they explode at or below 33% life remaining). This is all supposing you go standard zombies/skeles, if you're going spectres then you don't wanna go minion instability ever. Are you using fireball or fire trap? Just curious.

This is my basic plan (keep changing up a bit as I work through different skill trees. * Pure Caster eventually using Blood Magic gems for either one or two main spells (will manage Mana until about level 30 or so)

* Concentrating on Fire with ignite

* Main skill will be Fireball (10% quality in my stash), supported with LMP, Concentrated Attack and Fire Penetration

* AOE skill will be Firestorm (7% quality in my stash), supported with Increased Duration and Chance to Ignite

* Meat shield will be Raise Zombie supported by Minion Life (this is just to lightly distract enemies since the Lord of the Dead notable is easy to get with this build.)

* Curse skill will be Flammability

* Try to pick up as much life passives as possible

The following is one of a few perspective builds I am considering(I will include summary for easier reading). This build takes me to about act 3 of merciless based on my first character I am still grinding with.

For two more points I was able to squeeze in more life, more energy shield, more damage and more AOE at the cost of increased mana flask rate and 16% armor. A lot of options for fire, criminally underpowered in most builds but can be very powerful, get yourself a searing touch (5L preferably) if you are going for ignite damage.

thanks! That is a very interesting build. I noticed you also dropped the the shield passive I picked up which gave me a 30% bump in shield defenses.

I was intending on using a shield for this build but is that not wise for a Fire Witch? Obviously if I can get my hands on The Searing Touch Staff (good recommendation!), I won't be able to wield a shield.

How expensive will a 4L Searing Touch be about? I know I am never going to be able to afford a 5L

Dropped them cause imo, if your going for a fire build especially one that uses ignite you can't beat a searing touch and as you pointed out, can't use shields with a staff.Searing Touch fluctuate wildly, but if it isnt 5 or 6 linked or 6 socketed you should be able to get one pretty cheap, id say for a 4L a GCP but if its ilvl 50+ probably closer to 2-3 gcp. You can find low level ones for around a chaos, but obviously the power comes from the +2 fire skills which for spells is huge.

Good stuff! I will keep my eye on the trades for a Searing Touch while grinding to finish with my first character. It looks wonderful for this type of

I'm still act 2 default, and i doubt it scales well, but i got a shield with some good reflect along with some regen and took necro aegis.

I'm very tempted to use the kripp build, too, when i get the right stuff, but copying builds might be boring.

One downside to my guy is heS a little weak mano a mano vs bosses.

I need a good boss buster, so maybe buffing up my minions will help

What is your character name so we can add you to a friends list?A please link your latest build, am always interested in seeing variances.

Version 0.10.7b

  • Three new league types have been added that will appear in the third week of Season Two. These are called "Immolation", "Famine" and "Fixed Area Seed".
  • Added three new Unique items, one of which was designed by a Diamond supporter.
  • Poison Arrow and Ground Fire should now cause fewer graphical performance issues.
  • The Grace Period buff when zoning into an area now prevents monsters from targeting you. Your minions do not attack while you have this buff.
  • Witches can now receive a Lesser Multiple Projectiles support gem from the same quest reward as Shadows and Rangers (the Sharp and Cruel quest in Normal difficulty).
  • Updated the /help command.
  • Monsters that are converted now lose all debuffs. This fixes Elemental Proliferation griefing.
  • Fixed a bug introduced in 0.10.7 where public parties could not be changed to private ones.
  • Fixed a bug introduced in 0.10.7 where Ctrl+C (when hovering an item) would not always work correctly.
  • Fixed a bug introduced in 0.10.7 where character audio events would not play correctly.
  • Fixed a bug where the left mouse skill slot could get reset under some circumstances.
  • Fixed a bug where Page Up/Page Down would zoom in/out even when the client did not have focus.

this is my witch

only my first char -- around lvl 30 default, so not too hyperefficient

I was going to go with a critwitch, but ended up picking a lot of fire gems on quest rewards, and lean on zombies.

so, I'm kind of branching over to crit nodes, as well as getting some burning, most recently, added to my necro aegis.

kripp posted a good idea about flammable zombies which I might use when I get more gear, but right now I probably want to add life nodes, more crit, and some assorted templar stuff.

I have an idea where I add different ele types to firestorm along with ignite on a crit build.

let's say I have added elec --- could one firestorm chunk shock while the rest cash in on +40% dam?

can you be shocked and simultaneously take +40% from burning, or is only one effect allowed?

I pretty much just spam it, right now, with fire trap and ignite in a 3L.

I don't feel this char is a very efficient killing machine, and a bit weak against some bosses, but I'm not sure a LA/spork cc build would be much fun.

Can someone hook me up with a link to a good beginners guide to the game? I'm level 22 now and I'm really starting to like it so I'm willing to start taking the game seriously. But there is so much I'm sure I don't understand.

For example I finished the Giant Spider quest this morning and I didn't understand what the rewards I was offered were going to do. One gem was Pierce and when I checked the wiki page it just gave me a chart of the gem progression. It didn't even explain what the skill did.

I ended up going with a Faster Projectiles gem but I have no idea if I made the right choice.

The Wiki page tells you what Pierce does. It pierces. They have a link to the pierce effect, which will explain it further. I would suggest reading the POE forums, they have threads for new players. Then go to the forum for your character type, click on one of the build threads, and see how they did it. Use that as an example and go your own way.

Also, post your character name here, there are a lot of FBGs playing and you can ask us questions.

Just to make sure you are using the right wikia, this is the page for the Pierce Gem

http://en.pathofexilewiki.com/wiki/Pierce

Here is what Piercing does

Piercing

When a projectile pierces, it passes through the enemy and continues along its previous trajectory. A single projectile can pierce multiple enemies, providing it succeeds its piercing checks. A projectile with chance to pierce of 100% or more will always pierce.

Depends on your build. I have seen online minion builds that were extremely powerful. Dps stands for damage per second. Weapons, spells etc all have specific dps.

Yes, probably. Understand that people who just jump into the game without doing any research will probably have their first character fail. Not always, but usually. People think they're doing fine because Normal is easy, then get a nasty surprise in Cruel or Merciless. That said, your build may not be too far gone yet, start reading up on Minion builds for your character (Hopefully a Witch).

Well, i meant dps from effects like burning.I was concerned about drops
Well unless you have a bunch of increased rarity or quantity you will be fine. Increased rarity and quantity both apply to your minions, but neither apply to DoTs, so if your minions kill a mob, it is the same thing as if you walked up to that mob and smacked it to death, but if it dies to a poison cloud, or a burn you will get a 0% increased rarity/quantity roll - you will still get drops, they just wont be affected by your magic find gear.My motto is unless you are farming, don't sweat the small stuff, the minute you make a game into work the self destruction begins. But by all means, if you enjoy the game, consume as much knowledge as you can, it will only make you better, its a very mechanic-driven game.

Same name I always use. It's never taken for some odd reason. ;)

I'm sure there are guides, but you should be fine with in game content, coupled with the wiki and their forums.

there's a guy named kripparian who puts out some youtube clip tips, too, if you want to check that out.

also, you can always ask questions in here or their forum.

in th esituation above, I'd usually just window out and google path of exile pierce for a quick reference, if I didn't understand the in game content

Who is Mocabit? Level 86 is pretty darn impressive. That has to put you up in the 700 or so players in the ladder.

If you are on here, can you post your build? I would love to see it.

Just do him in a party. Easysauce. Trying to do him yourself is just masochism, unless you have an insane build. And here's a PSA: DON'T BE AFRAID TO PARTY. They won't care if you suck for your level, they just want bodies. Nobody is going to kick you out, because it's easy and you'll win, even if you aren't very good. Don't expect lots of loot, but other than that it makes passing harder content 1000% easier. Even if you never ever party in Multiplayer games, do it in this one, it's worth it.

well, I died like a half dozen times, but I finally got him.

probably died more in that fight than the whole rest of the game.

might've gone a little better, but he kind of backed off to one side where I couldn't really get near enough to see him and just kind of sat there and sniped me.

it did teach me a few things, though.

take defense a little more seriously -- I only have one life node

so, if I party up with some guys I can go back and do that fight again?

1. Get more. Lots and lots more. This game is all about defense. Don't think offense until you have a healthy defense.

2. You can, but there's really no point. Either farm in Act 2 or go on to Act 3. There should be lots of Fellshire Ruins going on, join one that says "stick to road". I personally like to run the Dread Thicket, there's 2 unique bosses and a higher than normal chance for a large chest, which drops lots of loot. Depending on what difficulty you're on, watch out for Chaos damage snakes, they can be a pain.

0.10.8 Info finally:

We're going to go ahead with the Act Three Merciless changes discussed here. The feedback on this was generally very positive. Most people were in favour of the change, but the players opposed to it brought up some very good points that need to be addressed. We will also be making some changes to maps. We will pay close attention to the results of the changes and may well make further tweaks in point releases.

Likely changes to Merciless Act Three:

  • Merciless Act three zones will be changed somewhat similar to the changes outlined in the Manifesto Post.
  • Maps higher than level 66 will not drop outside of maps.
  • Merciless Piety will get a Map drop slot which may sometimes drop a map.
  • Large chests in Merciless may sometimes spawn as dedicated map chests. These chests may either be rare and drop Maps every time, or common and not drop them every time. This change may be in a later patch.
  • Lunaris Temple Level 3 will be made around 15% smaller.
  • The waypoint before Lunaris Temple Level 3 will likely be moved.
  • The Marketplace waypoint will be moved, and will be predictably close to the Catacombs Entrance.
Maps
  • Maps will get signature monsters: one dedicated pack slot with the rest random. This reduces variance.
  • Rewards will be revisited.
  • We are currently investigating implicit mods and new map zones. This will probably not make it in to 0.10.8.
  • Map bosses are being reworked. In 0.10.8 Asphyxia will be redone.
We're looking at rebalancing every skill in the game. The first four are:
  • Puncture
  • Lightning Warp
  • Freeze Mine
  • Discharge
These skills will hopefully be rebalanced in 0.10.8. We're expecting to perform numeric rebalancing and reviewing what their quality bonuses are. If we run into problems. some of them may be pushed to a later patch.

Unwalkable tiles no longer appear on minimap. There may be more changes to the minimap in the near future.

There will probably be a small pathway towards Alira's Camp in the Western Forest. This should make it a little easier to find.
Hoping for puncture to be buffed significantly and am really glad they are finally getting back to skill balance.

I've got a quality Puncture if they buff it, don't use it.

It used to be amazing.

Yikes, Act 3 merciless just got significantly harder with the info for 10.8. I was just about to make my final run to finish the second half but with these changes my character is going to get crushed in Lunaris Temple with that huge monster level change. Looks like a ton more grinding at the docks and elsewhere.

I am trying to do this solo if possible. I don't mind a party when farming for currency but partying to get through a level gives me no idea of how bad my character is since it is pretty easy in a party to let every one else do the heavy lifting and then at that point why even bother building a character?

This game is hard. See Kripparians post on why you will never faceroll POE. Some bosses are just a pain to do solo. Like Vaal if you're melee. Could I kill him? Yeah, in multiple attempts, but why go through the hassle?
