Path of Exile (free to play & now on Xbone) (1 Viewer)

Oh I just learned something I did not know.

I completed the cruel difficulty labyrinth just now and when I went to enchant, I got a choice of Boot or Gloves.

I mistakenly thought I would get to enchant both in cruel, but it looks like you need to make at least 2 runs if you want to get the upgrade boot enchantment and the first enchantment on your gloves.

So back for run number 2 now on cruel.

Normal took me 6 runs to finish but I was able to finish cruel in just 2 runs.  Even at level 88, the last battle was tricky.  I can see having lots of problems with that last battle in merciless.

I hear a lot of people saying that cruel was somehow easier than normal.  I wonder if its just because they got used to the mechanics after running it in normal.

I may try the cruel labyrinth as soon as it opens up for me which will be soon.  Just hit level 50 and am close to getting to Act 3.

GGG announced they are making a change to help players who have multiple end game characters they want to ascend.

As far as I can tell, I think they are removing the need to make the Normal difficulty Labyrinth run and instead are offering 4 ascendency points in Merciless.

=====================

I wish I could find a list of what the enchantments do.  I have absolutely no clue what my upgraded enchanement is doing on my boots from completing cruel.  The wiki pages have place holders for the names of each enchantment but no data.

If it's an enchantment that enhances your damage output, press C to bring up your character's stats and look for the icon for the new enchantment you got.  Mine shows up on the offense tab next to the other skills I use and it gives the description of what it does.  I dont know if defensive enchantments show up there but its worth checking.

My only gripe with the labyrinth is how there are no checkpoints.  It sucks when you only have an hour or so to play.

I don't know why they cant offer checkpoints but still make it so you have to start all over from the start if you die.

Yeah, these runs can be pretty long especially if you don't find any short cuts and end up running all paths.

@ScoresmanI did what you suggested and found the info for my enchantment, but I still have a question:  Here is the wording

"Swings a Weapon in an arc, damaging enemies in front of you, has a 5 second cool down

137-210 Cold

41-67 Fire

2451-3822 Physical

My question is does this just happen randomly or am I suppose to do something to get the weapon to swing?

Gloves are either on hit, on kill or when hit.

Boots are conditional, for example if you've hit recently the gain effect, or if you have crit recently gain this effect.

Helms are skill specific.

DAMN IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I completed my second run of cruel lab easy enough and got an enhancement on glove and boots now.

And then I finished the merciless Lab in 1 run (which I was pretty stoked about), but then I got a jolt when I tried to get the enhancement for my helmet only to be blocked saying the helmet was corrupted :(

Now I guess I need to find a new helmet that is not corrupted.

You can overwrite enchants on gear, but not corruptions.

Also, the merciless versions of glove and boots enchantments are stronger than the normal/cruel variants.

When I could not get an enchantment on my helmet, I just got an upgraded one  for my gloves.

I noticed the enchantment was identical to my cruel one, but with better stats.  Is that how merciless works, it only upgrades the exact enchantment you have from cruel, or was that just strange rng that gave me the same type of enchantment?

I am just wondering if I need to go back to cruel to change the base enchantment or can I rerun merciless to try for a new one?

speaking of rng, this list is concerning.    This is a list of all helmet enchantments.  The likelihood of hitting one that affects your character looks tiny.  I feel like I might have to run merciless hundreds of times to get a skill that matches.

http://pathofexile.gamepedia.com/List_of_helmet_enchantment_mods

Yeah it rerolls the enchant if, just weird RNG that it was the same base as the one you had.

If you want a specific helmet enchant its a 1/362 chance. Its a gamble. I'm getting my gloves/boots sorted before I go for the helm one I want.

Wow, 1 in 362 is ugly.  It took me roughly 40 minutes to complete one run of merciless last night and that was a run that missed a few rooms.

No one has discovered yet where you can receive commandments or if they even exist, they were datamined so its not 100% they are live. There are theories but nothing is known yet.

Are you clearing side areas in the Labyrinth? Are you allowing the Izaro fights get harder? Izaro has a different set of mechanics each day, those mechanics carry over into the 2nd and 3rd fight if you allow them, doing so rewards you with more treasure key but makes the fight harder - if you are struggling at the boss I recommend you making the fight easier. The layout only changes once a day, you can just speed run beginning to end ignoring the side areas, all you sacrifice is treasure keys.

I've already rerolled this league, the character I started with was too complicated for early in the league when gear is too hard to come by. I had some trouble soloing lab with my Bladefall character, but I rerolled to Facebreaker Cyclone and I cleared normal labyrinth at 30 no problem.

I need to write down the exact look of the layout so that I know what sections to avoid on a future run.

I guess anytime I know I am in a special side area, I should just back out immediately, but the completionist in me keeps going forward.  I need to curtail that.

In looking through the helmet enchantments II can see about 10 that would help to varying degrees my cyclone enduring cry character..

Facebreakers give 600-800% More melee physical damage while unarmed.

You add flat physical damage to your unarmed attack with jewelry and the uniques Meginords Girdle and Abyssus.

Then you scale that with generic melee physical damage passives and gems that further multiply damage.

You can actually do a great deal of damage with facebreakers for cheap.

I was not referring to damage stats. I realize that the facebreaker model does provide significant damage but weapons sometimes provide stats that go beyond damage (like life leech for example).

I guess losing those type of stats from the weapon is the trade off for the damage boost.

Cyclone typically benefits from weapon range.  When using unarmed cyclone, is there any way to increase your range like you can with axes?

There are two jewels, one gives 8 additional weapon range while unarmed the other gives like 1-2. I will use the 8 additional one, martial artistry. I also will be running increased AOE support.

Good news: I completed my second merciless run in a row with out dying

Bad news: I got greedy and went for the helmet enchantment, which of course was useless for my specific skills :)

Next time I will concentrate on getting my gloves to the Decree level

At least the currency generation is pretty good in running the Labyrinth so it is not like time is being wasted on that end.  I had 5 treasure keys this run and it gave a nice amount of higher level currency items in one of the chests(GCP's, Chaos, Regrets etc).

As much as I love this game I have to admit to being humbled on just how much I suck at it.

I have almost 150 hours into this character.  During the first (!!) day of the Perandus league, I watched people on twitter taking on higher level maps than I can do with this character :)

It's all about synergy. The more mechanics you can get to synergize in one build the faster/better/safer/easier the game gets.

Obviously some of that is gear oriented.

for me it always seems to come down to money.  I never have enough currency to buy what I need for gear.

I know having an Atzirir's Disfavor for my cyclone build would make my character significantly more powerful but I am likely to never been able to afford one and certainly not good enough to try and farm one myself.

I do try and follow build guides to at least get the best synergy I can with skills and what little I can afford in gear and the tree.

Yeah, 2h axe is gonna be hard to gear for by virtue of their not being very many good 2h axes.

Facebreakers on the other hand has an investment of like 10c for all your gear, mechanically you do a lot of damage so it becomes easier to fully flesh out your defensive options. For example I went gladiator for extra block and all of my block chance applying to spell block which also helps to counter act the extra physical damage taken from abyssus. I'm gonna have a ton of block, armor, fortify and I'm using the new stibnite flask which blinds enemies around you. Blind confers a 75% chance attacks against you miss.

Defensive layering is another powerful concept.

I am starting to think that in the future it is going to be a lot easier to just buy a helmet with the proper enchantment than trying to reroll your life away in the merciless labyrinth.

I don't like the labyrynth runs at all.  It isn't fun and it lasts forever.
Did you start a new character after getting your other one to 100?

You can do the merciless Lab run in 10-15 minutes once you know the layout.  It is not too much more than a big map.

If you want to complete every room in the labyrinth, then yes, it does take forever.

Scoresman said:
I thought it was randomized every day?
It is much less randomized than they originally suggested from what I can tell.

The individual maps appear to be almost identical every day but the general paths to and from each individual map and puzzles inside the maps seem to randomize.

After numerous merciless runs, I have been fairly lucky in currency and very unlucky in enchantments.

As such I broke down and spent 1 EX on a helmet with an enchantment I wanted.  Not the best enchantment but it is far better than the useless ones I have been getting.

So I think I might go back to maps for a little while and see if my new ascendancy points and enchantments can see me level up to 90.

OK, very very happy with how maps are going.

I am beating bosses that were wiping me out easily before ascendancy.  As such I want to start looking deeper into my character for improvements.

First some quick background and then my question

1) 2H Axe cyclone build using fortify, blood magic, added fire, and melee phy dam,

2) Through ascendancy and some purchases, I have raised max DPS from 26k to 36.5k and raised my life from 4600 to 5100.

3) Also armor, life regen type stats have increased nicely during ascendancy.

4) all res is maxed except chaos, which is getting closer at 50% now

One item I have ignored is the jewels in my skill tree.  I just kind of picked the best I had at the time and plugged them in.  I think I am using 2 jewelsin the tree right now.

If I want to focus on increasing my cyclone damage, what mods should I focus on when I go shopping for gems on poe.trade?

In case my skill tree is of interest in answering this question, here is a link to see what gems I am using now

Is there a particular link on the reddit to find the walkthrough of the current day's labyrinth?  Also, are the labyrinth layouts the same across difficulties, as well  Standard, HC, and league play and if not, do they do walkthroughs for each?

I think a new one is started each day for Merc.  You just need to look for it, there is not a dedicated link.

I think the layout is the same across all three difficulties each day within standard.  I do not know about league play or hardcore, but I assume it is the same.

Oh the new stats are doing wonders.  I am clearing mid tier maps (level 9 and 10) very easily now.  I need to get my hands on some higher level maps to see how I do.

I was able to level up one full level fairly easily but slow since my experience penalty is kicking in.

I should be able to get to level 90 with no issues though (about 5% past level 89 right now).

I appear to have hit a wall but it is different than other walls I have hit.

typically I get to a point with a character that I can't advance any more because it keeps dying too often and losing exp.

but the wall I am hitting now is different.  I am not dying at all, and I am wiping out level 9 and 10 maps with ease.

But I am not advancing because I am stuck doing level 6 maps.   I used up all my higher maps and did not get drops to replace them.

I was trying to avoid buying maps because that looks so expensive but is that my only course of action at this point?

Yes, it's awesome and totally worth it.  It cleared two tabs worth of space for me.

On a separate note, I discovered just how much better your character can be if you actually spend your currency instead of hording it.  Bought a Bringer of Rain and an end game unique shield, and it just about doubled my DPS and survivability.  Rolling through the early map tiers right now.

I did something similar and spent a bunch of cash upgrading a few items.  I figured I was never going to be able to afford the end game Ax I want so I might as well spend some.

One thing for selling that is working well is to do this.

1) Get a decent enchantment on your helmet via ascendancy for your character (or buy one)

2) Save some high level helmets and rerun ascendancy and keep enchanting them and put them up for sale.  They may be worth some good coin to some one looking for a specific enchantment they can't get.

Haven't been very luck this league in terms of drops, but I found a Cadiro Perandus selling a Shavs for only 6.8k coins.

Instantly rerolled into a lowlife build. Its a whole new world.
