Pathfinder or Pilot............ or Acadia..... (1 Viewer)

Too bad, we found a deal on a 2010 Tribeca for $20k. Deals on used Subarus are really hard to find because people just don't sell them that often, but if you can find one I would seriously consider it. We've owned it for a year and a half without a single problem. Drives great, hugs the road, roomy, good power, H6 engine, leather trim package, I could go on. Just freaking love this car. Owned a Volvo SC90 before it which was a total POS.

ETA Same MSRP as an Acadia, little bit more than a base Pilot

Yeah there aren't any used for sale in my area that I have found save 2013 and new 2014 models and they are over 30 grand and I really just don't want to go there if I don't have to. I'm still of the opinion that 10K is too much for a car but that's because I never owned one worht more than that until I had a wife.

Yankee23, How many kids do you have? (I should know this from the Disney thread  )

Do you need the third row? I have three, and even if they all could fit in one seat, I know we would need the third row to keep things calm.

Lol. I put an offer on a fully equipped acadia that I thought was fair and they want me to double my down payment to get the payment I want. If I have to spend 5 figures cash on top of a trade I want that cute chick from the at&t commercials so service me in the backseat twice before I sign.

You'd think that when tell them up front you are a lawyer they wouldn't do the usual car guy thing but apparently not. Eh still looking.....
Make an offer on the car's price, not on a payment figure, you noob. Get your financing lined up in advance. Talk to your bank, AAA, or Digital Credit Union. At least one of them (DCU) will pre-approve you for a loan and let you take a blank check to the dealer. (https://www.dcu.org/loans/auto-loan-check.html)

You negotiate price, fill in the details of how you want the loan to work, and endorse. When the dealer cashes it, DCU sets up the loan according to the face of the check.

has anybody used them?

How tall are some of you guys? Since when is a Pilot huge inside for example. Those things used to be pretty tiny. Ill be in the market myself for something similar this fall or early next year.

I'm 6'5", but I haven't tried any of them out yet.

My pilot is huge? I think they completely redesigned it about 3 years ago to compete with the large SUVs

Yankee23..what is it about the Pilot that you don't like? Not pushing you into one or making a commission off them or anything, just curious.

Well I have now test driven a Pilot Pathfinder and Acadia....

Gotta be honest, the Acadia was the better car driving wise. Now I'm flummoxed.
You like the Acadia, an Enclave is another option. They are basically the same vehicle but the Enclave has nicer finishes and is a quieter ride. (We chose between an Acadia and an Enclave) I am 6-5 so I'm with ya.

We have a 2008 Pilot. Excellent SUV, except as most Honda's the road noise is rather loud. As mentioned before, I wouldn't trust GM's right now. I did drive a Sorento about 6 months ago as a rental and it was very nice. We looked at the Highlander but at least a few years ago the middle seat was not really a full seat. We looked at the Pathfinder also but it was built on a truck chassis and had a rougher ride and not much leg room in the front. I loved our Expedition, especially for long drives, but we didn't need the size any longer. It had three seats plus storage behind the 3rd seat.

Hard to quantify. It might be Honda fatigue mostly. Nothing stood out to me with it beyond its a Honda. Turns out I have a client who knows a dealer for..... GMC.... and favors are owed.... hmmm.....

Update? Probably going to start looking at SUVs soon, and the wife also wants a 3rd row.
We looked at all of these in 2013 (as well as the Infinity JX35 and Acura MDX)and wound up going with the Ford Explorer. Still love driving it and fit and finish it top notch.

This is what the wife wants.

What's the list worth even looking into here?

MDX

Explorer

Pilot

Pathfinder

Tahoe?

Acadia/Enclave/Traverse

Tahoe might be a big out of the class for what you are looking for. To be honest the wife and I were pretty much set on the Infinity at the Auto Show. Thought the Explorer looked good but wasn't sold on it. We settled on test driving the Acadia, JX35, Explorer, Highlander and Pilot. Went with the Explorer, we were very impressed.

ETA Why no love for the Explorer?

Just bought a 2010 Hyundai Veracruz. So far am loving it. Lots of standard equipment, plenty of room. I am 6'4" and am very comfortable. Good reviews though they discontinued in 2013 due to slow sales. AWD as well.

Two people at the Ford dealership pissed me off royally when we bought our last car. We'll be going to a different dealership for this one, but it's still Ford. And it's one of those things you just don't know if it's person-specific, dealer-specific, or company-wide. In this instance, it's probably industry-wide, but still...

I don't have high expectations from car guys, but I don't like being lied to. If you're going to lie to me, either be certain I won't catch you or be attractive and in a bed.

For me the main consideration is that I think Honda > Nissan.

I'm on my second Pilot.
Don't know if that's really true anymore. I've driven two Nissans over the last 18 years and never had a repair greater than $250 and those were very few and far between.

I also just traded in my 9 year old Nissan Frontier (same engine and framework as the Pathfinder) and got $11k for it. Retained it's value amazingly well and was an awesome vehicle.

Lol..... went acadia... great deal. .. love this car
i'd love to get one of those vehicles next time i buy, but they don't offer a v8 and 5200 lbs of towing power just isn't going to cut it.

it sucks that to conserve gas mileage and build the SUV's on car frames that they have pretty well killed most of the towing capacity.

I'm pretty much stuck with Chysler (Durango, Grand Cherokee) or the expensive brands to get something that tows a decent amount.

That sucks, our Ford dealer was awesome. I used Truecar.com, carwoo.com and edmunds.com Told him and showed him the offers I had and he beat it for a car not even in his inventory.

I didn't buy Ford but while shopping I thought the Ford dealership experience was great - very laid back. Mazda, too for that matter.

Infiniti (what I bought) was the best experience with responsiveness, helpfulness and laid back approach. Mazda and Ford were next. Kia and Lexus were kind of obnoxious and bordering on pushy.

Everywhere we went everyone was very laid back, no pressure to buy or anything. We made it clear we were just test driving and comparing against XYZ. It was a pleasant experience that's for sure.

You guys need to look at the Mazda cx9. I think this will be my car to target in 5 months.
Bif fan of what Mazda is doing. I very well might have gotten a 6 if it they had figured out the problems with the turbo diesel they want to release in North America.

Yeah I can see that limitation but I don't need to tow anything at all. I just needed a third row that was comfortable and storage pace on top of it all in a package that was nice for someone as big as me. And this thing has everything I want. The only thing it doesn't have is a moon/sun roof which I honestly don't care about. Other than that it's pretty much the perfect vehicle for me and what I wanted and it drives about as close to perfect as I can assume I think perfect is.

My experience was great, too, right up to the point I went in to finalize. Pricing was locked in (x plan). That wasn't going to be an issue. But he worked up a deal with me that included a $1,000 rebate. I knew from talking to other dealers that there was no $1K rebate. There was only a $500 rebate. The deal he worked up for me also included 0% financing for 60 mos. Which wasn't crucial to my buying the car, but it certainly never hurts. And obv helps in the decision-making process when you're comparing the purchase of one to the purchase of another. Then I told him I was going to have my daughter with me when I came in to sign the paperwork, I wanted him to send me an e-mail with it all so I could review it ahead of time, and that I did NOT want to be there for 2.5 hours finalizing and signing #### because I would need to get her home and into bed.

-Never sent me anything ahead of time, despite agreeing to do so (I expected this)

-Didn't have $1,000 rebate. Only had $500 (Expected this, too, but his manager of all people came out and told me it changed a few days prior, which I know was a lie AND a horrible excuse because I moved closing the deal out those few days because of issues they had)

-No 60 mos @ 0%. That was only on the standard and this was a Hybrid. And my second favorite response of all time from a car guy: "But you said the financing wasn't make or break to you doing the deal. You'd pay cash if you had to. What's the issue?"

Sales people are horrible about just telling you what you want to hear when they don't know the answer. I like to ask them something obscure that I already know the answer to an listen to them just make #### up.

Have never been a huge Toyota fan. Still going back and forth between Pilot, Pathfinder and Acadia. Acadia has a better price point for what I am looking for and I enjoyed driving it more than the others. In fact, I really don't like the Pilot all that much but I am allowing the Honda reputation give it the status it has on the list. Honestly, unless someone blew me away, it's probably between Pilot and Acadia at this point.
If you like the Acadia and you are looking to save some or pay less, I strongly recommend you compare with the Enclave and Traverse--they are essentially the same car but prices can vary significantly depending on what you want under the hood and inside. For example, you could get a stripped down basic Traverse for a whole lot less than a standard Acadia.
Enclave is more expensive (with relatively the same options) than the Acadia. The least expensive is the Traverse with Acadia in the middle.

After test driving, Explorer was the one we liked second most after the Acadia/Enclave. The Acadia/Enclave was significantly better in actually testing them. I thought it was going to be a harder decision with the Acadia/Enclave having the edge due to it's safety record but it was not all that close.

That flat out sucks and is shady as hell. Thankfully I had none of that occur. Very straightforward, not sure if it was because I had the deal essentially done via email with all the offers I had via those sites I listed earlier. In fact he agreed to the beat the prices I had by 100.00 and he still had to find the Explorer. My wife wanted a specific color and I wanted it to include the safety package (Blind spot detection, air bag seat belts, adaptive cruise control, etc) and it took him a few days to find it and then get it from another state.

And we liked the Explorer a lot better. More features, better ride and more room. And what safety record difference?? Both are 5 star rated by NHTSA. You may be thinking of the old Ford, they have changed quite a bit.

We test drove the 2014 models this Dec.

Having a family, my first concern was safety so I pulled as much data as I could (other test records other than the NHTSA and things like death rates etc). Easily the safest SUV in the class is the Enclave/Acadia/Traverse. The Explorer is certainly on the same level but it is beat out by the Enclave/Acadia/Traverse.

I think I'm done with GM for a bit. 2002 Impala had alot of things go wrong with it and replaced last year with a 2013 Sonata. 2004 Envoy has been OK but also a few weird things and nothing special....not too mention terrible gas mileage. Not sure what is going to replace that but something in the next year or so.

Have a 2012 dark blue Acadia. LOVE IT! Third row seating is fantastic and rides very well. I got the base model. Would have loved the better models (like the Denali), but couldn't justify the extra $9k+ for it.

Just bought a 2011 4runner for my wife 23k miles $30k.

This thing is badass. 3rd row, 4wd, loaded, roomy, and my favorite feature - rear window rolls down.

My Cherokee lease is up in sept.

I will be looking for a new (or used) SUV that isn't as pricey and is safe (new born coming in July). I don't drive much, but will make a Philly to Pittsburgh trip a few times per year and probably the jersey shore from Philly as well. Otherwise, its a few miles to the train daily and a 15min drive to the airport 2-3 times per month and here and there on the weekends.

Acadia, enclave, pilot, a used Infiniti, ford edge in the running I think.

If safety is your top concern then the Acadia/Enclave/Traverse has to be on top of your list. I spent a lot of time looking up a lot of data and it was clear that they were on top of the list.

I'm not sure I need the 3rd row though. First kid on the way and we are doing 2 maximum.
