Before I watched my football team win for titles in fifteen years, and go to two more championship games, and set NFL and individual records for winning, and enjoyed the ongoing career of the greatest player ever to live, this stuff would have bothered me a lot more. And if I were a fan of one of the lesser teams in the league, and was worried I might never see a title in my life time, or had an inferiority complex about my good but not great team, I probably would have joined the clamor for stiffer penalties against a winning team just because it all seemed so unfair. All the fans of losing teams, and teams that finally made the playoffs only to lose the last game of their season, you've got every right to feel vindicated that the big bad patriots got taken down a notch. Enjoy the victory today, such as it is. I remember when rooting against someone felt good because rooting for my teams felt bad, and now that I've been on the other side for so long I get it. I can't help but feel a modicum of pity for those of you who will never live to be on this side of the fence. It's nice over here. And I'm rooting for you to some day get here so you understand. Good luck. Most of you will never see a team you like have this kind of success, ever. I feel badly about that. So, congratulations on winning whatever it is that has you so excited today. I'm happy for those of you who are in the kind of place where this makes you feel better.
Geez man I hope those titles really aren't that important to your personal self-worth. Oof.
of course not. that's what I'm saying. once you win title after title in every sport you start to realize how unfair it all is. Totally serious here. I get it. There was a time in my life I'd have cheered for my team to draft the best guy in his draft class, and who cares about the rape allegations, for example. sports makes you want word things, like for guys like that to have success in life, and to be excited for the opportunity to cheer for them. I'm just saying that all the winning had really helped me put stuff like this in context, and I totally understand how the delivery of an unprecedented penalty for a poorly measured, imperceptible difference in the psi of a football on a cold wet day is really important to people who are in a position where they're rooting for such distasteful things. I get it. And I'm cheering for you, too.
Celtics, Sox, Jets, Giants, Raiders, and Bruins fan here. I know nothing if not winning championships.

You're delusional. Your team cheats. You haven't won a thing. Your shtick isn't even accurate in any sense :lmao: How many Steelers fans on this board?

All this winning*
i suppose if you root for three seperate NFL teams you're bound to win occasionally.wtf?

It's OK to have a team in each conference and the Jets really don't count as one.

I wonder if Fred is touting the tainted pats titles while rocking his Aaron Hernandez jersey?
this is exactly what I'm talking about. If I were a panthers fan, who lost their only superbowl bid to the Patriots a dozen years ago and was worried my team might never make it back, I'd probably throw moralistic stones from the ethical glass house built by Rae Carruth and Greg Hardy. I remember me before winning. I didn't like it. So I get why you'd say something like this without thinking it through. Congratulations to you too.

just remember when the NFL paid investigators find your team more probable than not of doing something

don't ##### about it

more probable than not is the new way to sentence people - you don't have to have good facts

You probably don't want to debate this but if you do...

Those occurred outside of the game. Technically you would be better off bringing up our OL lineman taking PEDs during the year your team was illegally taping stuff. If you get right down to it we win the Super Bowl last year if Hardy wasn't put on the exempt list like Brady should have been after the AF championship game. If he play's we Seattle at home early in the year. We then beat a gimpy Rodgers in the playoffs and catch Wilson when he's raining picks. Superman runs over Butler rather than passing it to him.

Back on topic, Hardy and Caruth never played another game for the Cats after being sanctioned. I'm OK waiting for an earned championship rather than settling for an asterisk.

if you're a woman i'm willing to give you a pass on the multiple teams thing.
Yeah, well, I'm not turning over my cell phone, that's for sure.
Deflated balls?

just remember when the NFL paid investigators find your team more probable than not of doing something

don't ##### about it

more probable than not is the new way to sentence people - you don't have to have good facts
Its not new at all.

Its basically saying it was a threshold in a civil type case vs. criminal.

HTH

fair enough.

also, how do you root for every Boston team except the Pats?

something doesn't add up.
I'm from Northern CT. Used to root for the Whalers before they left, so I haven't always been a Bruins fan. We make do around here. But before the bandwagon Pats fans came of age and generations shifted their allegiances, there were lots of Jets and Giants fans around here, especially Giants fans. 2007 and 2011 saw an awful lot of Giant Blue in our area. They still have major pull. All three teams used to be on the front page of the Hartford Courant, with a lot of attention paid to all three. Now it's all Pats in the press, which is very indicative of how the Pats bandwagon influence has grown during their short run of success in the NFL.

Let's revisit brady's press conference, where he has a closed door team meeting then took a half hour, visibly shaken, explaining that he hand picks the footballs he wants. That was him taking full responsibility for something he doesn't even understand. He stood up there, took way more questions than anyone expected, and took it like a man.

And then ESPN trots out a team of experts, every single one nof whom lost to the patriots in the superbowl or afc championship game, and had them all call him a liar.

Shameful.
All of the balls were tested with a gauge before the game.

At halftime the Patriots' were found to be underinflated using a gauge. The Colts balls, however, were at the same pressure as at the start of the game.

All balls were reinflated to the same pressure at halftime.

At the end of the game all balls were still fully inflated.

I'm not Sherlock Holmes, just literate and able to add 2+2.
colts balls inflated outside - stay inflatedpats balls inflated inside - gradually lose pressure

backup balls reinflated outside to same pressure at halftime - stay inflated

Seems pretty straightforward really. warm air loses pressure as it cools. The colts knew they were going to test the balls, so they knew not to fall for the same trap.

Seems a lot less complicated than some imaginary scenario where patriots were on the sidelines manually deflating ball after ball after ball after ball after ball after ball after ball after ball after ball aftee ball after ball after ball, and testing each to make sure they got down to exactly the same pressure, without any of the refs who were tipped off to check this at halftime noticing, or any of the fans, or any of the dozens of cameras.

The idea that someone manually deflated all of these balls is way more far fetched than the logical explanation that this was just regular air pressure loss. But you when you want to believe the worst about someone I'm sure you can convince yourself of plenty of crazy things.
When this is all shown to be much ado about nothing, I expect nothing less than a full exoneration, public apologies, and additional picks for the inconvenience during superbowl preparation.
there's a simple explanation for how the Colts footballs would remain unchanged and n it had nothing b to do v with the Colts over inflating theirs.

They filled their balls outside and the pats didn't. Which makes sense if you're the visiting team, and also if you intend to have the balls investigated later in the game.

Is there a rule related to air temperature in the ball? I haven't seen one posted. Is there a rule about where balls may be b filled? Of course not.

A properly inflated ball drops in pressure throughout the game and becomes softer as the game goes on. That's not cheating, it's nature. If the nfl wanted to put a rule in place to ensure that effect didn't happen, that's fine, but its silly to call it cheating.

The only team getting cheated here are v the patriots, who followed the rules and were blind sided by science and false accusations when they're supposed to be preparing for the superbowl. Obviously the league will issue am apology but by then it will be to late to make up for lost preparation time. And in the process, they've unnecessarily and unfairly tarnished the reputations of the greatest qb and coach in n the history of the league. shameful.
I don't expect them to get an extra first round pick next year after yet another fumbled nfl investigation turned out to be nothing, but an apology would be a good start. By Goodell. Live and televised in front of reporters. For half an hour, like brady did. Maybe he can explain how trivial Spygate really was while he's at it. Nothing less would be justice.
That's gold. Jerry! Gold!

I don't get it. How can Brady appeal if he is not complying with the investigation?

It's like him saying " I'm totally innocent.... But don't check my phone records or emails ".

That is the one thing that will truly set him free if he complies and is found clean.

It's like getting pulled over and refusing a breathalyzer. Him refusing is not allowing them to prove his innocence too.
I think he'll probably start with them not proving his guilt.

Then he will calmly explain that he shouldn't have to hand over his personal information and the NFLPA will agree with them, as they have in the past with others.
Of course they did not have to prove his guilt, no matter your misunderstanding of the terms "prove" or "guilt". Whether they sustained their burden of showing by a preponderance of the evidence that Brady was culpable for participation in, or conspiracy to break a rule is the question, and one readily answered. Further, they will have to show that the League abused its substantial discretion and acted arbitrarily and capriciously, or with actual malice, when it acted to enhance the punishment to protect the collective integrity of the game and the League.

Next, the NFLPA will not be hearing the matter, though they may represent Brady. The matter will be heard by the League, or an independent arbitrator. The NFL should do well in front of either. Many presume otherwise based on scenarios where both the criminal and civil courts also had jurisdiction. This matter is an offense directly against the League and not the criminal or civil authority. Only the League can vindicate and correct this situation. Most supposed precedents are out the door. Wife beating, child beating, rape, DUI, those precedents are not comparables for this situation no matter haw much some wish they were. The comparables are Spygate, Bountygate, Noisegate, and a few others.

I do not see this matter ever getting to Federal Court, and the ever helpful to the players Judge David Doty. To stand before the Federal bench asking for equity one must approach with clean hands. The Patriots and Brady are quite sullied. Further, in any Federal action their would be substantial discovery, interrogatories, subpoenas ad testificandum and subpoenas duces tecum demanding sworn testimony and production of records. There you do not get to speak non-responsively without being sanctioned. There you have to produce documents or suffer penalty. There, if you do not testify under oath, or testify falsely or evasively adverse inference can and will be drawn therefrom. Nope, Brady, his load mouth and un-cautious Agent, and the Pats do not want to be in Federal Court.

The federal court, of course, would not force Brady to hand over his phone. They would, however, tailor an order more or less as Ted Wells offered to limit and protect his information which would be turned over to the court for an in camera hearing before pretty much everything Wells originally asked for would be turned over. Finally, the Pats and Brady cannot possibly risk what Frick and Frack, the Deflator Duo might say under oath in Federal Court.
This should quiet some PATS fans.
Not a chance it will.
not without a tl;dr anyway

All this winning*
i suppose if you root for three seperate NFL teams you're bound to win occasionally.wtf?
yeah, but 2 of them are jets and raiders

 Damn

My current state of mind is going down to NY to their headquarters and beating the living hell out of Jetdell! Complete BS! They took away our 1st and 4th rounder? They are purposely trying to destroy us!! SEASON TICKET HOLDERS...BOYCOTT OPENING GAME! DO NOT GO IF KRAFT WILL NOT FIGHT THIS!
:lmao: rip New England fans 2001-2015

I heard this and thought the punishment was harsh but my god I'm so glad it went like it did.

These pats fans are priceless.

And as for them wanting kraft and the team to fight back and run scorched earth...I hope they do it. Because check mate is to finally release the spygate dirt. There is no way in the world those tapes are destroyed. And let's finally find out who knew what about the rams walk through.

It's still real!

The suspension sucks but at least we get a chance to showcase Garoppolo. Nobody will give you anything for a QB who never plays no matter how good he's rumored to be--now at least there's a chance we can flip him.

The money sucks, but it isn't mine so whatever.

Losing the 1st really sucks. My understanding is an appeal is very likely: hopefully that's the part that gets squashed.

Otherwise, what's to be said? Between some pretty damning circumstantial evidence, Brady's lack of cooperation, and Roger Goodell' perfect willingness to ignore all concept of fairness to placate the haters, I'm one very not surprised Pats fan.

But this is how it is for us. Crap like this is what keeps these guys motivated. They've won multitudes more than others could dream of; anyone with even half their record of success would've succumbed to complacency long ago. Instead, come September, they'll be breathing fire once again.

That's cute. Really though, how does it feel knowing that only you and your team's fan base are the only ones on the entire planet, not even the league for which you play for, that actually believe your titles are legitimate? LOL

yourteamcheats.com ... the greatest website ever created? Maybe!

how does bleacher report get an interview with an nfl team owner?

The owner said he believes (but made it clear it's just his opinion) that the relationship between Goodell and Kraft is "pretty much dead."
"I can't say for certain but it sure seems that way to me," the owner, who knows both men well, explained.
The owner added: "Some of us (owners) are waiting a little nervously to see what Robert does next."

I really disagree with this. I don't think the crime is all that big of a deal. It is more so the integrity has to be upheld for the NFL and the game going forward. You have to continue to set a precedent that if you are going to try and bend rules and then lie about it you will get punished hard.

Now, filming a teams walk through deserves an asterisk but this is minor as far as gaining much of an advantage over anyone.

And we all know in the SB that the balls had the correct amount of air in them. Brady looked just fine marching down the field for 328 yards and 4 td tosses.

The thing that is annoying is Pats fans trying to defend Brady lying about this whole fiasco. I will say it again. He did it, and he should just say he played a part and move forward. This is going to be just as nauseating as Lance Armstrong trying to defend himself when everyone knew he was cheating if the Pats play that angle.

I really have come to respect how good of a coach Bellicheck has been. I also respect the competitor and qb Brady is. I am willing to give them a pass here if he comes clean. The longer the Pats fans and Kraft and company try to play the Brady is innocent card is where I will lose respect for them.

I had just started to gain some of the lost respect I had for them with spygate. That was just flat out cheating. This though is much more minor but the lying is going to wear on me. I really think they lying is what has pissed off Goodell and company.

Are you for the Seahawks or the Broncos? Do I make a joke about steroids (oh, pardon me... 'adderall'), or do I reference two Super Bowl wins by way of cheating the salary cap?

pats fans are always good entertainment. Any ideas on a team name for my fantasy league? There's one guy that rivals 12punch in Pats knob slobbering.

You know, as a Pats fan I'll say this much: at least deflategate was about something. I mean, you can imagine they gained some advantage from it, and clearly some effort was put in to getting it done and getting away with it.

What blows my mind is the people saying this is nothing compared to spygate. Really? Spygate was ridiculous! Spygate was a cameraman on the sidelines (instead of the press box, the stands, etc.) Barely any effort was made to conceal it, because they just thought "who could possibly give a crap"? Stealing signals is a part of football, kind of like a hard count: it may seem a little cheap, but it's perfectly above board. Spygate was just a technical infraction as to how they went about stealing those signals.

I don't think deflategate is very bad either, but it's worse than spygate IMO.

Quick Summary for those that have been sleeping the last week:

NFL: “Let us see your text messages”

Brady “No”

NFL: “Fine, with the evidence we have, it appears that you knowingly cheated”

Brady: “How can you say that when you haven’t seen my text messages?”
