Pats-Falcons game thread (1 Viewer)

Looks like the Falcons are serious in getting Turner more involved in the passing game. He caught at least two balls last night and I think caught everything thrown at him. He still doesn't look natural catching the ball and catches with his body instead of his hands. I could see him getting just enough love in the passing game to not drop him down rankings in ppr leagues.Ryan seemed to be throwing a lot of short passes in the middle of the field early and didn't go to his receivers until the second quarter. Don't know if this was planned or if he just got more comfortable as the game went on and progressed through his reads with more patience. But I do think Gonzo will be the best value at TE this year.John Parker Wilson looks better than backups on a lot of teams. Could be a dynasty stash in deep leagues.Rookie WR Kerry Meier looked good and couldn't ask for weaker competition. He has an injured Micheal Jenkins, Brian Finneran, and Harry Douglas standing between him and relevance. The NE running game is the equivalent of russian roulette. I want no part of any of it this year. Headache.Welker is fine. I'd be really surprised if he caught less than 80 balls this year. People are still predicting him in the 40-50 catch range around here, and I personally think that is insane.Hernandez looks and plays like a WR. If the Pats really do use more three TE sets this year, then Hernandez could be a good value, but I am gunshy on NE TEs.
There is already a long thread on this. Please use the search function to find the ATL-NE game thread and add to that thread. If you continue to clog the Shark Pool I will begin deleting these threads aggressively.Mark Wimer

There was an interview with Matt Ryan and he said that he learned from studying the top QBs in the off season to "keep throwing the short stuff until the defense takes it away." May have been that philosophy at work. Also, did Kerry Mier get injured towards the end of the game, on the play ATL scored a TD?Hernandez...liked watching him, that first time he caught the ball and made a good first move he looked very fluid for a guy his size.Liked to see Matt Ryan actually running the offense via the non hurry no huddle.

My takes:

Welker looked good, but didn't see him have to make any real open field moves on the knee. But I'd be cautiously optimistic on his return.

NE RB situation will be a fantasy mess again, but overall looked pretty strong. All have value, especially at the price you could get them in a best ball format.

Was looking forward to seeing B. Tate's role in the offense but didn't get much to look at. His two receptions came with Hoyer in at QB.

Turner looked good and his 2 catches (3 in 2 games) looks promising, even with Norwood and Snelling out. Ryan wasn't afraid to take the short stuff when open and that could bode well for Turner if he continues to improve his pass catching ability.

Also wanted to get a look at H. Douglas, but again didn't seem to be involved until after Ryan left.

Gonzo looked good and seems to have another strong year in him.

Players I would bump up slightly:

NE

Patrick Chung

Aaron Hernandez

Wes Welker

ATL

Kory Biermann

Players I would bump down slightly:

NE

Julien Edelman

ATL

Any WR not named Roddy White

Agreed hernandez looked awesome. Any chance he sees real action this year? Hard to ignore a weapon like that. Big Quick Fluid with soft hands. Could be dangerous for Brady to add him to his list of targets.

As great as Hernandez has looked so far, I have to think he will get plenty of playing time. He is going to create some major matchup problems for defenses, but there could be a learning curve. I think this is a future stud in dynasty leagues.

I know he caught 2 passes for 25 yards, but how did Brandon Tate look tonight?
Caught my eye with a nice run after catch on a 3rd & long. Took a short out, made a guy miss & picked up about 13 for a 1st down. He also was running open but Hoyer missed pretty badly on another play. I wouldn't say he answered any questions ( from a broadcast view of his play ) on the night.

Good news bad news for me 2 start up drafts missed Welker at 62 in one but got him last night at pick 58 in another.

Wish I had got him in the FFPC like I had planned.

you're probably better off starting a henrymuto blog thread so this kind of news doesn't get lost in the shuffle.

HE doesn't look like a guy that could stay in and block, which might limit his opps. I know he can block, and showed that last night, I just question his ability to block at the end spot on the line. He just looks like a WR. But he looks like a potentially GREAT WR. I really can't see why they don't just move him there a la Colston. Given that they already have two effective TEs, it could happen.

Interesting. He seems to be a real student of the game. How refreshing that must be for them in the post-Vick era.

Who would be the No. 2 guy right now, Wilson or Redman? Clearly Wilson has been getting a lot more preseason action than Redman, who didn't even play last night.

Aikman talking about how Norwood might not make the team...any truth to that? Smith or Nance worth a spot? Smith has looked questionable in pass pro, but good with the ball in his hands
No on Norwood just resigned(unless he has to go on the IR at the final cut)Smith's play was impressive at times but also uneven wtih the fumble and the not turning around for Ryan's qucik pass
