i think more important than won-loss record (unless they win 1-2 games again) is internal development & competitiveness...
both would demonstrate more competence from the coaching staff than last few regimes...
IF bradford is the real deal, that obviously is huge, as he is the key piece to the puzzle... that would reflect very well on everybody from devaney on down, to the coaching staff and scouting department...
given the amount spent on the OL, they need have a good year...
and the defense needs to show improvement...
if STL wins 3-4-5 games, but have close losses and are much more competitive (AND show development in above areas), i'm not sure they would want to disrupt the continuity...
bradford looked very good tonight (i liked the pick, and think he has a very bright future)... but he is a rookie... spags basically started with the equivalent of an expansion team in terms of the talent on the roster...
maybe bradford has a matt ryan-type impact and the rams shock the world... but given that STL only had six wins in their last three seasons COMBINED, it seems unlikely ownership has that over/under (6) as an EXPECTATION.
* i really would have liked to have seen what avery and bradford could have done together... they clicked for about 40-50 yards on two passes tonight... but i don't think the loss necessarily drastically impacts on their fortunes (whatever they are, and might have been)... avery and robinson were similar players... somebody like gibson, burton, foster (?) could partly pick up the slack... gilyard and amendola could help in the slot... and rookie TE hoo (not sure about onobun in 2010, as he is so raw) looked intriguing...
imo, if the OL is a disaster, avery wouldn't have mattered... if they develop, his loss won't be insurmountable...
